Lady Gaga stopped by the MTV offices in Times Square yesterday to announce her big surprise regarding the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards. I had initially thought that the princess of pop was going to be the host of this year’s show, with there still not being one announced. It wasn’t what the singer announced but her news was still a doozey. Lady Gaga has been confirmed to kick off the show, which will air live from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on August 28. How the rest of the show can live up to an epic opening number by Lady Gaga, I don’t know.
The 2010 MTV Video Music Awards held this past Sunday managed to pull in 11.4 million viewers which makes it the best for any MTV telecast since 2002’s 11.9 million. It was also the third most watched telecast in MTV history and up 27 percent from last year. Chelsea Handler, who hosted the show, definitely has a lot to celebrate about. She said “Just got word…Highest rated VMA’s since 2002. Good job, MTV! Good job, kiddo.” Chelsea also thanked her fans on Monday for tuning in, saying “Thanks for watching everyone. I know I had a good night when I wake up with tape on my back & glitter on my face.”
While at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards in Los Angeles this past Sunday, Lady Gaga announced the name of her new album – ‘Born this Way’. The 25-year old princess of pop made the announcement while accepting the awards for Video of the Year for ‘Bad Romance’. The singer then sang to the audience, giving fans a sneak peek performance from her new album. Lady Gaga sang “How beautiful in my way cuz God makes no mistakes. I’m on the right track. Baby, I was born this way.” If that’s not enough to excite you about her new music, I don’t know what will.

Madonna was at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards which were held at New York City?s Radio City Music Hall last Sunday. The 51-year old singer spoke during the Michael Jackson tribute at the beginning of the show and even introduced for Janet Jackson?s performance. The Queen of Pop spoke about her love of Michael and the things that were parallel in their lives. She said that the late singer was ?so unique, so original, so rare. He was a king.? I only have one comment for Madonna though. When talking about someone you?re supposed to be paying a tribute to, I don?t think talking about yourself more is an appropriate thing to do.
