Example has recently premiered the official music video for his song “Midnight Run”. The electronic house track serves as the third single to come off of the British rapper/singer’s debut album “Playing in the Shadows”. “Midnight Run” is one of the clear stand out tracks on that album and I knew that it wasn’t long before it got a video. Speaking of which, it seems Iceland has become the new “it” place to shoot music videos for UK artists. After The Saturdays, it’s now Example who’s filmed his latest visual in the country. Anyways, if you’ve seen the clip, do you think you can explain it to me? Because I honestly did not get the whole concept. The chick was hot though.
Cher Lloyd has recently premiered the music video for her brand new single “With UR Love”. The Mike Posner-assisted track will officially be released in the UK on October 30th. The question now is if the pop singer can get her second UK #1 in a row. The week of her release will be a tough one though as she will be up against Jennifer Lopez, Sean Paul, Avril Lavigne, Beyonce and The Wanted’s new releases. As for the video, I think it’s adorable. Cher looks beautiful and the clip gives the song even more life. But I still think Cher sounds weird on it.
Lana Del Rey has made her TV debut by performing her song “Video Games” on the UK show “Later… with Jools Holland”. The 24-year old internet sensation, whose real name is Lizzy Grant, recently sold out her first UK show in about 30 seconds and has already racked up more than 2 million views on YouTube. I’m not surprised at all considering how talented she is. I love her unique and sultry vocals. And I love that she’s singing in the jazz/soul genre. Her performance was captivating simply because of her voice. But I just have to ask, is anyone else seeing a resemblance between her and Natalie Portman?
Frankmusik recently premiered the music video for his song “No ID”. The catchy pop track serves as the official single from the British singer’s album “Do It in the AM”, which is set for release on September 26th/27th in the UK and US respectively. I hope this song helps save him from a flop because his first single was just a poor choice. As for the video, Frankmusik takes a lot of inspiration from the classic movie “Grease”. The concept was actually pretty cool and totally fit his looks. I enjoyed every second of the clip. What do you think?
Adele has been forced to postpone two UK concert dates after falling ill to a nasty chest infection. The singer withdrew from her performances at the Plymouth Pavillions and at the Bournemouth International Centre. Adele released a statement on her official website, saying “hi guys, sorry about the first 2 shows. im as useless as a slug right now, ive had a rotten cold since i got home earlier this week and was hoping it wouldnt make its way onto my chest. but unfortunately it has and its leaving me breathless and i cant hold any of my notes when i sing.” Get well soon!
Leona Lewis has recently unveiled the official artwork for her upcoming album “Glassheart”. The pop singer’s third studio effort will hit stores in the UK on November 28th. I guess she’s keeping “Glass Heart” written as one word. I’m not sure what to think of that. Anyway, the actual album cover features a pretty photo of Leona. There’s no denying that her face is simply stunning but with all the possibilities with the words, they could have done so much better with the cover. It’s very safe in my opinion. Where’s the creativity and originality? In other news, Leona recently had an interview with UK radio show “IN: DEMAND with Alex and Lucy” earlier this week where she confirmed that she will be performing on the US X Factor.
Skylar Grey played her first UK show ever this past Monday when the singer hit the stage at East London’s XOYO to present herself as the mastermind behind the amazing choruses in the hits “Coming Home”, “Words I Never Said”, “I Need a Doctor” and “Love the Way You Lie”. Immediately after doing that medley, Skylar did her solo efforts and sang her singles “Dance Without You” and “invisible”. I have a ton of respect to Skylar with her talents as a vocalist and songwriter. She was just born to do this. I feel a little worried though with “Invisible” being her first single. The song is beautiful but risky and maybe just a little unfriendly for radio.

X Factor-formed boy band One Direction have chosen the track “What Makes You Beautiful” as their official debut single. The song was produced by Savan Kotecha, and written by Carl Falk and Rami Yacoub, who worked with Britney Spears on her hit “Baby One More Time”. I like this song. It’s catchy and has a huge potential to be a hit in the UK. I’m so glad that One Direction decided to go for a pop/rock sound. I think it suits them well and it will be something refreshing in nowadays’ music scene. “What Makes You Beautiful” is set to be released on September 12th.

UK boy band The Wanted has recently premiered the music video for their song “Glad You Came”. The track is the second single to come off of their upcoming new studio album, which is out later this year. The very catchy single was produced by Steve Mac, Wayne Hector and Ed Drewett. It’s a great pop record with an infectious beat, dancehall influence and rhyming verses. As for the music video, it sees the members of the group partying it up on the paradise island that is Ibiza. It’s a good visual and fits the song’s summery vibe really well.

Jessie J rocked the stage on Britain’s Got Talent last week where the rising pop singer performed a killer rendition of her song “Mama Knows Best”. The track comes off of her debut album “Who You Are”. I love watching Jessie J perform, even more so this performance. It’s like watching a musical play. I wonder why she didn’t sing her official new single “Nobody’s Perfect” though. The song is still fighting within the Top 20 on the UK charts. Maybe Jessie J just doesn’t want to lose any momentum and is perhaps planning to release “Mama Knows Best” as a single in the near future. What do you think?

After achieving the longest consecutive run at the top spot for a studio album by a solo artist in British chart history for her album “21”, Adele’s reign at the number 1 spot on the UK album chart has finally been taken over by the Foo Fighters’ new album “Wasting Light”. Despite losing the top spot, the British singer is still at #2 with “21” and is also at #3 with her debut album “19”. I’m impressed with her success in the US and UK, and I won’t be surprised if she manages to make her way in front of the Foo Fighters again. The rock band may have a solid album but there’s no denying Adele her throne.
Rihanna’s tour may not be doing so well in the US but she’s doing great in the UK. It has just been announced that the R&B singer will play a ninth concert at the O2 Arena in London , scheduled for December 22. The tickets have gone on sale today so make sure you snatch them up. If her ticket sales for the UK are anything to go by, they’re going to get sold out pretty quickly. If you’re one to keep count, Rihanna has now beat out pop star Britney Spears who managed to do eight shows at the O2 on her Circus tour.
My Chemical Romance have chosen the amazing “Planetary (Go!)” as the third official single to come off of their latest album “Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys”. The new single will be released in the UK and US next week. For that reason, the rock band has recently premiered the music video for the song. It’s disappointing though. I love the song like no other but I hate when live performances are turned into music videos. Compared to their previous videos from this era, this new one just leaves much to be desired. But I still hope that the new single would get a high spot on the charts.

British rapper Chipmunk has chosen the track “In the Air”, his duet with R&B singer Keri Hilson, as the official second single from his upcoming studio album “Transition”, which will be available in UK stores on April 18th. It’s a nice collaboration. Keri’s part on the song is catchy and her vocals are super sweet. Chipmunk also kills it in his verses, showing some good energy. With it’s feel-good mid tempo, it’s a winner to me. Let’s see if Keri can help Chipmunk gain his first number 1. His previous single “Champion” which featured Chris Brown peaked at #2 on the UK charts.

British pop band The Wanted has recently premiered the music video for their song “Gold Forever”. The track is their latest single and the official 2011 Comic Relief song – a charity single in the UK. The song is a feel good tune with mid tempo ballad-like verses and a cheerful synth-minded chorus. As for the video, it’s good. It’s nothing ground breaking or utterly original but it goes quite well with the song’s spirit. The guys seemed to have a great time shooting the video so that should be enough reason to check it out. What do you guys think?

British boy band The Wanted kick off their 2011 with a brand new single called “Gold Forever”. The new track will serve as this year’s Comic Relief song (charity single) in the UK. “Gold Forever” is a mid tempo ballad with a feel good vibe. It’s also infused with some electronica and dance elements. It’s not the best but it’s not bad either. I actually kind of like it. The Wanted may have their most clear opportunity to score a hit with the Comic Relief support as well as having no big competition for when it’s released. And if you’re wondering when that is, the song will be available in the UK on March 13th.

It’s the singer’s second UK single and first US single to come off of her upcoming debut album “Who You Are”, which is due out on March 28th in the UK and April 12th in the US. The single features Atlanta rapper BoB. I love the lyrics and the vibe of the song and hoping that it would be a hit of Jessie J. As for the video, it’s simple, colorful and manages to grab the song’s essence. In other Jessie J news, she has confirmed a new tour in the UK and Ireland in Spring 2011, where she will play 7 shows beginning in Glasgow on March 31 and ending in Belfast on April 9.

Alexis Jordan has recently premiered the music video for her song “Good Girl”. The track is the second official single taken from her self-titled debut album, which is set to hit the UK shelves on February 28th and US shelves some time in March. The Roc Nation singer’s latest song is already getting several spins at UK clubs. It was smart of her camp to continue with the light dance/house sound. As for the video, it’s good but I feel like Jay-Z could have spent a little bit more cash on it. Alexis looked amazing though and the choreography was cute.

Jay Sean is back with a new single called “Hit the Lights” which features rapper Lil Wayne. The song is a definite club banger. The J-Remy and Bobbygass-produced track will officially be released in the UK on February 8th. Jay’s new studio album “Freeze Time” will hit stores two weeks later on February 22nd. I think this song is going to kill on the radio. The singer’s latest track needs to get to number one because I think it’s miles better than “2012”. But if he’s planning to release this in the US, he better ask for some help with Lil Wayne if he wants to score another number one on Billboard’s Hot 100.

George Michael has reportedly signed on to be a judge on the upcoming US version of the X Factor. A source said George is going to take the job. It’s an amazing opportunity to get back in the limelight and reverse his recent bad spell. Simon [Cowell] knows that Americans love him. He is as big in the US as he is [in the UK]. He is a true star and has the wit and experience for the job. It’s the perfect platform to resurrect his career. Its an odd choice for me but if the singer can behave himself, I think hed be a great addition to the show. George definitely has the personality that audiences would love to watch.

X Factor is about to get fierce as it is being reported that Nicole Scherzinger is about to sign at multimillion dollar contract to be a judge on the US version of the show. Sources say that the Pussycat Dolls lead singer will be joining Cheryl Cole who has been discussing this with Cowell for months and is ready to move to LA. That panel of judges is seemingly coming along well. I wonder who else will be joining them. Its certainly going to be interesting to watch how this show would compare to American Idol. I wonder if theres going to be any drama between the judges like there was on the UK version of the show.
Since Christina Aguileras album Bionic became a certified flop, sources are saying that her record label RCA is in rescue mode. The powerhouse singers album barely sold 200,000 copies in its first 5 weeks of release and even made UK history for being the lowest selling album to make it to the number 1 spot in 8 years. The pop star also had to cancel her tour. Insiders say that RCA has done its part, but she’s headstrong. There have been candid conversations between her and the label about connectivity, but it doesn’t seem that she’s been open to that dialogue. However, a rep for RCA and Christinas manager Irving Azoff deny that this is going on.
Katy Perry recently had an interview with UKs Star magazine. The pop singer talked a bit about sexuality and religion saying It does not matter if its Madonna or my boyfriend doing it – if you put sexuality and religion in the same bottle and try to shake it up, its not cool. Perhaps its this same opinion why Katy recently unleashed a tirade on Lady Gaga and her Alejandro video where the princess of pop was seen swallowing a rosary. If youve been living under a rock your whole life and just recently came out from under it, Katys dad is actually a pastor. Go figure.
Lady Gaga has sold over 4 million digital copies of her music in the UK! That makes the princess of pop the number 1 digital selling artist across the pond. The singer broke Rihannas record which was at 2.5 million digital downloads last year. The Black Eyed Peas came in at second place to Lady Gaga as the hip hop band raked in 3.3 million digital downloads. Congratulations to Lady Gaga for once again making history and breaking another record! She is unstoppable! I cant see an end to the craze surrounding her. It just goes to show that shes not just some passing fad.
Kate Hudson was recently spotted with Matt Bellamy, the lead singer of the band Muse, in New York last week after reportedly dating for over a month. Its only been a few months since the actress and A-Rod broke up but sources say that this new relationship is getting serious and that the couple plans to make the relationship public at Britains Glastonbury festival later this month. A source said Matt has been over to America to hang out with Kate. Things are going so well, Kate was planning to fly out to the UK to hang out with Matt at the festival. She wants to watch the band from the side of the stage and meet his pals. It makes me wonder if Kate had anything to do with Matts split with fianc Gaia Polloni.
The promoters of the Glastonbury this summer are looking to pick up Snoop Dogg to be a part of the festival. If the rapper does decide to sign on, he?ll be joining a bill of some other big stars, including the likes of U2. I guess it was just in time for the folks at Glastonbury that Snoop is finally allowed entry into the UK. I wonder what made them decide that they wanted Snoop on board for the music fest. UK singer Eddy Grant is consulting his lawyers to consider filing a lawsuit against the Gorillaz for substantial damages over allegedly plagiarizing a song. The singer insists that the band?s new single ?Stylo? has the same keyboard riff from his 1983 track ?Time Warp?. Eddy even suggests that the group?s leader Damon Albarn is completely aware of the theft. Eddy said ?Damon Albarn knows in his heart of hearts – it’s unfortunate that we can?t get into people’s hearts – he knows that this is a song that he’s loved, in his club days? I don’t know the guy? but he knows this is a song he loves.? It?s not too far of a stretch, considering that both artists are under the same publishing company.
Lady Gaga recently spoke to UK?s OK magazine about the comparisons between her and the Queen of Pop Madonna. The record-breaking singer said ?It’s funny when people say they see a lot of Madonna in me. I just feel so flattered because I love her and I am just her biggest fan. She is very strong. I love the way she does interviews -you know you won’t get anything past her.? I actually think that Lady Gaga is this generation?s Madonna.
