Scotty McCreery recently premiered the music video for his song “The Trouble with Girls”. The Mark Bright-produced country song serves as the second single from the American Idol winner’s debut album “Clear as Day”. The song is enjoyable but it’s failing to impress on the charts. Scotty has done a couple of high profile TV performances with it but he’s still very low on the Billboard 100 and nowhere to be seen on iTunes USA’s top 100. Anyway, the video is pretty nice with a sweet story behind it. It was actually shot at Garner Magnet High School in North Carolina where Scotty is currently a senior.
Lana Del Rey has made her TV debut by performing her song “Video Games” on the UK show “Later… with Jools Holland”. The 24-year old internet sensation, whose real name is Lizzy Grant, recently sold out her first UK show in about 30 seconds and has already racked up more than 2 million views on YouTube. I’m not surprised at all considering how talented she is. I love her unique and sultry vocals. And I love that she’s singing in the jazz/soul genre. Her performance was captivating simply because of her voice. But I just have to ask, is anyone else seeing a resemblance between her and Natalie Portman?
Kelly Clarkson gave the first TV performance of her new single “Mr. Know It All” on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno this past Tuesday. I think the pop singer is back in the US just in time to promote her single because the song is losing places like that on iTunes. While the song is still doing great on radios, I hope that once the music video comes in and she continues her TV run, that “Mr. Know It All” will make its way back up the charts. As for her performance on Leno, Kelly absolutely killed it! Her vocals were hot and she looked stunning in that little number.
Christina Milian is making a comeback. Unfortunately, it’s not going to be in music but on TV. ABC Family is developing a new show called “Maid in Miami” with the music producer of “Glee” and the “Rita Rocks” producing duo. With Adam Anders, Stan Zimmerman and James Berg, the show could have some talented potential. It would center in on Christina’s character as she dreams of becoming a singer while she dusts for a living. It all sounds so familiar but I just can’t put my finger on it. I’ll reserve further judgment once I see the pilot. But with the names attached to production, I have high hopes.
Wiz Khalifa has recently premiered the music video for his song “No Sleep”. The track serves as the official fourth single from the rapper’s major label debut album “Rolling Papers”. Now I just want him to confirm a date for radio release in the US and kick off a TV promo. They should have given this the single treatment months ago when it went to #6 on the Billboard Hot 100 when it was released as a digital-only single. But whatever, we have it now. As for the recently premiered video, it sees Wiz waking up and reminiscing the crazy night he had, which was full of partying with his friend and girlfriend Amber Rose.

Fresh after last week’s finale, The Voice host Carson Daly spoke to reporters about the changes that the reality TV singing competition will be making for season two. Carson said “[We're] expanding, but not too much. With success in network TV, often they overdo it once they’ve got a hit. They tend to just sort of whore it out, if you will. We’re going to have longer blind auditions. We only had 2 episodes of it this season and all of a sudden we were into the battle rounds. I think there will be at least four weeks of our blind auditions so that people can really sink their teeth into that discovery process.” As for the coaches, Christina Aguilera, Adam Levine, Cee-Lo Green and Blake Shelton are all coming back for season two.
The soulful singer from Stratford, Javier Colon, was recently crowned as the first ever champion of the NBC hit reality TV talent show The Voice. Javier’s first official single is the song he performed on the finale performance night, “Stitch by Stitch”. The song was especially written for him by Dave Hodges, Dave Bassett and Lindy Robbins, and produced by Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins. I have high hopes for Javier’s music career and with the industry being high on R&B singers as of late, there’s a really good chance for him to gain success. Again, congratulations to Javier and good luck!

Next to take the American Idol stage was James Durbin, dressed in all black with lots of spikes and studs, performing with rock and roll legends Judas Priest on “Breaking the Law”. James was clearly having the time of his life. This whole performance screamed so much of an actual concert for me. There were some serious pyro going on and just an all out amazing performance. James even got a standing ovation from the judges. Why couldn’t he have been part of the top 2? It would have been a more exciting finale night if he was. With American Idol season 10 coming to a close next week, I thought I should start writing on NBC’s own reality TV talent show “The Voice”. The show is already on its 4th episode and just finished the second round of the Battle Rounds. Cee-Lo Green’s team of Nakia and The Austin performed “Closer”, with Nakia moving on. Blake Shelton’s team of Elenowen and Jared Blake competed with “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough”, with Jared moving on. Adam Levine’s team saw Angela Wolff take on Javier Colon on “Stand by Me”, with Javier moving on. Christina Aguilera’s team had Beverly McClellan and Justin Grennan do “Baba O’Riley” with Beverly winning the round. Did you catch the show? What did you think of their choices?
Princess of Pop Lady Gaga performed her latest single “Judas” on French TV show “Le Grand Journal” on the night of May 11th (at least where the singer currently is). The “Canal Plus” hit show is being shot this week at a special stage right on the Croisette (boulevard) near the beach in the city of Cannes where the famous film festival happens to be celebrating its opening night on the same day as well. Lady Gaga’s performance was nothing short of epic. The whole landscape and stage just added another layer to it that made it all the more beautiful.

Adam Anders, the executive music producer for “Glee”, has been successful in co-producing over 100 Billboard Hot 100 hits for the hit TV show. Now, he’s looking to capitalize on his success by making his own record label. Adam is currently working on albums by Zac Poor and Ben Burgess, and his first release will be the self-titled debut album of Disney star Shane Harper. When talking about the direction his record label will take, Adam said “I don’t believe in putting out a single and then if it doesn’t hit, drop the artist. We are here to develop artists — there is no timetable to getting it right.” I agree! I think that’s exactly what the music industry needs, a nurturing environment.

Bruno Mars performed his latest single “The Lazy Song” on American Idol’s results show this past Thursday. The reggae-sounding Smeezingtons production serves as the third single from the R&B/pop singer’s debut album “Doo-Wops & Hooligans”. As usual, Bruno’s vocals were flawless. I was actually half expecting him to come out with dancers in gorilla masks and perform like in the music video for the song. However, I was sorely disappointed with the AI crew though. It was made obvious that the performance wasn’t live when they decided to put a dog in the shot. One second the dog is up and about, the next it’s sound asleep. From technical difficulties to bad camera shots, someone in the technical department really needs to step up their game.

TV is about to get bombarded with nothing but singing competitions as Christina Aguilera, Cee-Lo Green, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton have all signed on to judge NBC’s new show “The Voice”. The new show is set to rival American Idol and the US version of the X Factor. However, Christina has faith that the show will stand out because of the stellar judging panel. The pop singer said “We know what it’s like to get up on that stage. I was even a contestant on Star Search years ago. For me, I know what it’s like to be them. One of the reasons I was hesitant about doing a show like this was because I wanted to make sure I was a part of something very positive and not negative just for television’s sake. I wanted to bring positivity and a really honest perspective.” I can’t wait to see what they come up with.
Amber Riley recently took to her webcam to cover Adele’s new single “Someone Like You”. The “Glee” actress also took to her Twitter to express her thoughts on the British singer and her song, saying “I don’t care who sings it, NO ONE can sing an Adele song like ADELE, she is perfect but I’m glad you guys liked my version too….” Amber isn’t the only “Glee” star to cover the likes of Adele though. Last night’s episode of the hit TV show saw Gwyneth Paltrow take on “Turning Tables”. This is one big historic week on the Billboard charts. As of this week, the cast of “Glee” has placed an astounding 113 songs on the Billboard Hot 100 song chart. In the two and a half years that the hit TV show has been making amazing remakes, they have already bested Elvis Presley’s record of 108 for most charted songs by an act in the list’s 52 years. With the show seeming to not have any end coming soon, you can be sure that those numbers are still going to rise. As for this week’s charts, the show bested their own record by charting nine songs in a week, including Lea Michele’s rendition of Katy Perry’s “Firework”. Congratulations to “Glee”!

When it comes to American Idol, perhaps the most interesting part of the audition process comes during the dreaded group round of Hollywood week. While it’s a nightmare for the aspiring singers, it’s a gem to watch for us fans of the reality TV talent show as the pressure cooker of group round forced the remaining 168 contestants to team up with each other, learn a song and choreograph a routine in one night. What follows is a sleepless night filled with tears, cat fights and all around drama. This year was no different. Some couldn’t find groups. There are some who became frustrated with their bossy leaders. One actually decided to swap groups in the middle of the night and another left her teammates hanging as she decided she wasn’t cut out for the competition. What was your favorite moment of the night?
Avril Lavigne’s new single “What the Hell” has debuted at the number 13 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It’s a more than respectable debut considering that it’s only backed up mainly by its digital sales. I’m sure it will go higher on the chart once the music video comes out, radio airplay increases and when the Canadian pop rock singer starts promoting the song on TV. I’m not expecting Avril to reach number 1 though with Britney Spears’ “Hold it Against me” proving to be a monster single by debuting at number 1. I have a feeling that it’s going to stay there for a while. But even after that, Avril’s going to have to settle for a lower spot on the Top 5 since Lady Gaga would be back in February.
Fox really wants all “Glee” fans to watch the Super Bowl this year as it has recently been announced that actress Lea Michele will be singing “America the Beautiful” during the pre-game festivities of this year’s big event. Following the TV star’s lead will be pop singer Christina Aguilera who will sing the National Anthem. It sounds like a diva off to me. I wonder whose set of pipes will grab the hearts of the nation more. I think it’s a pretty tough call but if Christina messes up, she’s going to live with it for the rest of her life.
Cory Monteith recently went on Twitter to share a picture of Paramore lead singer Hayley Williams on the set of Glee which had many wondering if the rock star was going to be on the show. However, Hayley said that she was only on set to visit and not film a cameo. When sources asked about her visit, Hayley said A few of the cast members had reached out to me over Twitter a while back. They all seemed really cool and down to earth, so when Cory invited us to come and see the set I was stoked. We don’t do a whole lot of TV appearances and their world is a lot different than what we’re used to. I just had a good time seeing everyone in their element.
Rumors have come up that starting next season, American Idol fans will finally be able to vote online. Reports of the news have shown up on the reality TV shows gossip sites votefortheworst.com and ainow.org. But when asked about the reports, Fox had no comment. Assuming this is the truth, imagine how many more people will be inclined to vote now. I definitely hope the rumors are true. It will definitely save some money from having to text or call. With all the reported changes to the show, will you be tuning in and voting? I guess we all just have to wait for the kick off.
Sources are saying that Glee producers are rethinking their initial plan to do a tribute episode following the Super Bowl this year. It has been reported that the hit FOX TV series was considering an homage to either Bruce Springsteen or Michael Jackson, but now, Ryan Murphy and others are leaning towards a regular episode. There are good things and bad things to the strategy but I kind of agree with having a regular episode instead of getting another stunt one. I say get back to basics and remind everyone why we fell in love with this show. We all love Madonna and The Boss and that wouldnt change. Lets remember why we love Rachel, Finn, Kurt and friends.
The Parents Television Council has chosen to pick on Glee and Britney Spears by labeling the TV series tribute episode to the pop singer as the worst show of the week. Their website criticizes the show for making a tribute to Britney who they deem to be a toxic teen role model. They continue on to say Perhaps most troubling is the deification of a troubled pop star into a symbol of empowerment and self-esteem. Considering her stints in rehab, her very public breakdowns and her questionable parenting skills, there is absolutely no way Spears should be considered a role model. The producers of the show can spare us the old song-and-dance about fallen celebs turning their lives around. Could they be any more narrow-minded?
Nadine Coyles first solo single Insatiable was nothing short of disappointing but it apparently has a hot music video. Its apparently so hot that its been banned for TV. The singer recently went on her Twitter to talk about the video saying that it failed a test for TV. It has since been forced back for a re-edit after it was deemed too sexy. Nadine said It was so much fun making the video – even though I was sprayed with water and had a bad neck afterward after all the hair flicking and rocking out I did! Its too bad no amount of sexiness can cover how bland the song is.

It has been confirmed that Jennifer Lopez has signed a 1-year deal with American Idol. And according to sources connected with the reality TV talent competition, the Latin pop singer/actress deal is for a little more than $12 million. I find it somewhat surprising that the deal is only for one year given the nature of the franchise. Are they unsure of the shows fate after this season and wanted to play it safe with contracts or are they planning on changing judges for the show every year? Or maybe theyre really just not sure about JLo. I can believe that.
Motley Crue lead singer Vince Neil has once again gone on the attack against Sharon Osbourne, this time in his autobiography Tattoos & Tequila: To Hell and Back with one of Rocks Most Notorious Front Men. The rock star said It just really sickens me today to watch everybody fawning all over Sharon Osbourne. She’s a talent judge on TV and she has her own show and this and that. This is the most evil, shittiest woman I’ve ever met in my life. She would fucking have you killed if it was to her advantage If people really knew. You have to wonder if hes speaking genuinely or is just bitter about her success.
The stars of hit TV show Glee are glum over the show’s smash hit soundtrack. For the singing high school stars claim they have been short changed by Sony Music over royalties from the No. 1 album Glee: The Music ” Journey to the Regionals. More than a million of the albums have been sold to fans but stars such as Corey Monteith and Mark Salling are grumbling they have received minimal payments from it. “I got 400 bucks from it going No. 1,” Monteith told a Washington D.C. radio show. Many of the stars are now choosing to sign with different record labels for their solo projects, including Salling and Matthew Morrison. “The Glee cast is furious because they feel they were misled by Sony,” an insider told the New York Post. “They have all complained to executive producer Ryan Murphy that they want a bigger share of the royalties. “Sony should have known better ” they kept their hands on money that could have been paid to the cast. “But by upsetting the biggest talent on TV, the label is cutting its nose off to spite its face. It is myopic, short-term thinking on their part.” Reps for Sony and Fox did not comment.
Tila Tequila was recently a casualty at the Gathering of the Juggalos last weekend when audience members threw pretty much everything, including feces, at the reality TV star. She wasnt the only victim though as Method Man was also subjected to the attack. According to sources, he and fellow rapper Redman were performing at the festival on Sunday night when someone in the audience threw what appeared to be a full beer can at Method Mans face, resulting in a pretty nasty wound right by the eye. Redman threw expletives at the crowd before telling Method Man to get the cut looked at, however, he refused to stop the show and continued on performing.
Lea Michele recently had an interview where she got to talk about makeup, her stand out moment on Glee and who would be a perfect addition to the hit Fox TV series. The actress said Justin Timberlake would be the perfect Glee guest star: He sings, he dances, and hes hilarious. Producers are said to be saving the singers appearance and music for the much-anticipated Super Bowl episode. Lea also mentions how singing Dont Rain on My Parade was her best moment on the show because its her favorite song and felt that it was a dream come true to get the chance to perform it.
Fantasia Barrinos VH1 reality TV show Fantasia for Real is set to premiere on September 19 but since the American Idols overdose, it is reportedly being reworked. A rep for the network said [The] premiere episode will be changing. At this moment production hasnt decided what will change, its too soon for us to speak to how these events will change her show creative but Fantasia is an open book so its going to play a part in our series somehow just cant speak to how exactly. It sounds interesting but I hope they dont try to profit off of her personal woes. It might just drive the singer over the edge again.

Aerosmith is currently in the middle of a nationwide tour and its scheduled to roll through the end of September. If you know your timelines, that puts it long after the production begins on the reality TV talent show. A rep for the band still wont confirm that Steven is locked up for AI but she did say that no matter what The Aerosmith tour will continue on for its full scheduled run with Steven Tyler.
