Katy Perry is on the cover of this month?s Nylon magazine where she talks about her new music, Russell Brand and her thoughts on her partners in pop music, including Lady Gaga, Ke$ha, Rihanna and Taylor Swift. The singer differentiates herself from other pop princesses saying ?You’ve got GaGa, who’s like, from outer space; you’ve got Ke$ha, who’s the beer-drinking, house-party girl; and then you’ve got Rihanna, who’s transforming the urban world into her own outer space. But I feel like you’re missing an Alanis Morissette, in 2010. I love how she was a voice for a lot of people who couldn’t explain their feelings. But it’s not like I’m not gonna compete. I love a good dose of healthy competition. It’s not going to be the same that they’re doing??
Taylor Swift?s latest music video for her song ?Fearless? has finally come out. The 20-year old Grammy award winning singer gave viewers a chance to see footage from both backstage and from her actually shows from all over the world. The country cutie also talked about her song saying ?When I wrote ?Fearless,? I wasn?t dating anyone. I wasn?t even in the beginning stages of dating anybody. I really was all by myself out on tour and I got this idea for a song about the best first date. I think sometimes when you?re writing love songs, you don?t write them about what you?re going through at the moment, you write about what you wish you had. So, this song is about the best first date I haven?t had yet.?

Big Machine Records CEO Scott Borchetta recently defended Taylor Swift?s Grammy performance as it has been on the receiving end of some criticism. The music exec blamed a technical difficulty but also said ?This is not American Idol. This is not a competition of getting up and seeing who can sing the highest note. This is about a true artist and writer and communicator. It’s not about that technically perfect performance.? The original AI champ, Kelly Clarkson, isn?t going to take that comment lying down and she wrote Scott an open letter on her blog in response to his comment. The singer said ?Every artist has a bad performance or two and that is understandable, but throwing blame will not make the situation at hand any better. I have been criticized left and right for having shaky performances before and what my manager or label executives say to me and the public is ?I?ll kick butt next time? or ?every performance isn?t going to be perfect??I bring this up because you should take a lesson from these people and instead of lashing out at other artists (that in your ?humble? opinion lack true artistry).?
The show will take place on Tuesday 16 February at London?s Earls Court Arena

Taylor Swift celebrates her incredible year on the cover of People magazine?s year end issue featuring the 25 most intriguing people of 2009. In the issue which hit newsstands last Friday, the 20-year old country singer was named People?s ?Golden Girl?. She shares that even though she?s skyrocketed to stardom this year, she?s tried her best to stay grounded and not let fame change her. Taylor said ?You can stay the same person, even if everything around you changes. I would like to think everybody out there isn?t just waiting for me to trip and fall and stumble out of a club drunk. People know I?m not a party girl. I?m not hiding some dying urge to be out clubbing right now.?
Taylor Swift recently showed off a new do ? sleek, straight and with bangs. According to MTV News, the 19-year old country singer has a new fan in legendary actor Clint Eastwood. MTV recently asked what Clint music preferences were at the time and he named off some of 2009?s biggest acts. Clint said ?Taylor Swift? I kind of like her. I have [listened to her music]; I was listening to some the other day. And I think I like her. I?d be pretty embarrassed if I?m going, ?Taylor who?? Sometimes you listen to pop radio, just to see what?s going on.?
Jay-Z is following in the footsteps of Taylor Swift, Bon Jovi and Gwen Stefani as the rapper has filed a lawsuit against a tea house in Alabama claiming that the place was rocking his music without paying the price. The sting operation went down at a place in Mobile, Alabama called A Spot of Tea which turns into a nightclub called Club Insanity. According to the lawsuit, agents working for ASCAP, an enforcer of music royalties, observed the bar playing all sorts of music that they?re not allowed to pay, including ?Umbrella? by Rihanna and Jay-Z. Jay-Z, along with the publishers of the other songs played, wants the club to pay up.

Michael Jackson and Taylor Swift were the big winners at tonight’s American Music Awards, with Swift narrowly beating The King of Pop in the trophy stakes.
Nineteen-year-old Swift picked up five awards, including Artist of the Year, while Jackson was recognised posthumously in four categories.
Jackson’s awards included Favourite Pop/Rock Artist and Pop/Rock Album for his 2003 album, Number 1s, bringing his total number of AMAs to 25. His brother Jermaine accepted the awards on his behalf.
Swift accepted her awards from London where she is currently on tour and paid tribute to Jackson in her speech.
“I just want to say that music has never been ultimately about competition and to even be mentioned in a category with Michael Jackson who we’ll miss and love forever is an unimaginable honour,” she said. “And I just want to say I’m sending my love to the Jackson family and Janet.”
Michael’s sister Janet kicked off the show with a medley of her hits, and Whitney Houston performed I Didn’t Know My Own Strength, while Jennifer Lopez took an on-stage tumble while performing.
Never one to shrink from the limelight, Lady GaGa gave a typically outrageous performance. Wearing a flesh-coloured bodysuit covered in white flashing piping she used her microphone to smash open a glass box with a piano inside before smashing glass bottles on stage throughout her performance while violinists wearing gas masks played beside her.
Rihanna gave her first solo performance since her domestic dispute with Chris Brown and appeared on stage in a sexy cutout catsuit shackled to a gurney in a mad scientist’s laboratory to perform Hard and Wait Your Turn from her latest album, while Shakira performed her new single Give It Up to Me.
The Black Eyed Peas, Jay-Z, Green Day and Beyonce all went home with awards over the course of the evening.
Taylor Swift has one of the most personable and relatable attitudes in the music industry. That?s why it shouldn?t be a surprise that you?ll soon be able to find her in the greeting card aisle. The 19-year old country singer has partnered with American Greetings to create a line of greeting cards, gift packaging, stationery, online photo personalization products and online greetings. Taylor said ?My idea of a great song is a song that says how I feel better than I could. I feel the same way about greeting cards. I?ve always been fascinated by feelings and how we express them to each other. Getting to write and design these cards is a wonderful experience.? Her line of cards will be available on Spring 2010.
Carrie Underwood hosted the 2009 Country Music Association Awards at the Sommet Center on Wednesday in Nashville, Tennessee. Carrie also performed that night, singing her new single ?Cowboy Casanova?. The 26-year old American Idol alum co-hosted the show with Brad Paisley. The two singers opened up the show by changing the lyrics to ?Mamas Don?t Let Your Babies Grow Up to be Cowboys? to include a reference to Kanye West. It was a pretty hilarious moment. And honestly, I was half expecting the rapper to randomly show up when Taylor Swift won her awards. He would have never come out of there alive.
If you missed out on Taylor Swift?s guest hosting gig on Saturday Night Live, you pretty much missed on one of the greatest episodes of the comedy show ever. The country singer sang and played guitar to ?Monologue Song (La La La)?. She killed it! Here are some sample lyrics: ?You might think I?d bring up Joe [Jonas], that guy who broke up with me on the phone, but I?m not gonna mention him in my monologue. Hey Joe, I?m doing real well. Tonight, I?m hosting SNL but I?m not gonna brag about that in my monologue. La la la. Ha ha ha. La la la.?; And if you?re wondering if I might be dating the werewolf from Twilight. Hey Taylor [Lautner]! (blows kiss, winks) But I?m not gonna comment on that in my monologue.?; and ?You might be expecting me to say something bad about Kanye [West] and how he ran up on stage and ruined my VMA monologue. But there?s nothing more to say cuz everything?s okay. I?ve got security lining the stage. It?s my SNL monologue.?
Taylor Swift doesn?t seem to be slowing down as the country singer officially has Billboard?s longest charting album of this century with her self-titled debut album. ?Taylor Swift? was first released in October 2006 and now in its 157th week in the Top 200 albums chart beating out previous record holder Nickelback. If the cutie?s first album has done this well, I can?t wait to see how well ?Fearless? ends up doing. I can just imagine it breaking even more records. Congratulations Taylor! You are truly one amazing talent. I don?t think us music fans will ever get to see another one like you in our lifetime.
The singer fell for a prank orchestrated by Ellen Degeneres this Halloween. It seems that the comedian determined Taylor Swift to go to a fake dressing room where she was ready to pounce on the unsuspecting singer. The thing resulted in a funny little video that can be found on the internet showing Taylor Swift falling upon the bathroom floor where the scare took place. You?d think something like this would damage her popularity, but Taylor Swift probably got a few bonus points. Too bad they didn?t get Kanye West to do it? he might?ve bought himself a few extra points too.
There are rumors going around that producers at Saturday Night Live are working overtime to book a surprise cameo by Kanye West when Taylor Swift hosts the comedy show in November. Sources are saying that the plan is highly likely to take place. I think that the country singer would have a very good sense of humor about the whole VMA thing after all this time that had passed and it could prove to be a great career move for the rapper who I?m sure has had his fair share of the backlash from his douche bag actions last month.
Taylor Swift and Taylor Lautner were caught on camera in a more-than-friends embrace.
The duo seemed to linger in the moment when they hugged after Swift performed on stage at one of her concerts.
Swift, whose popularity is growing at break-neck pace, is headlining her first tour after supporting country rock star Keith Urban on his current tour.
The clip of Swift and Lautner in a lingering embrace made its way onto YouTube. Swift, who looked as feminine and nymph-like as usual, appears to know Lautner well. He was front-row for the concert and was said to be fixed in his gaze when she performed Fifteen.
Last month Swift said: “Well, see, I don’t know Rob Pattinson, so I would just by default, I’d be on Team Tay – I love him. He’s so cute!?
The pair have worked on the upcoming romance ensemble flick, Valentine’s Day, a collaboration Swift called “life changing”.
I?ve been waiting to hear what Beyonce has to say about the whole VMA incident revolving around Kanye West and Taylor Swift since it happened. When recently asked about the incident that will go down in MTV history, Beyonce said ?Well, I knew his intentions, and I knew he was standing up for art; and he told me before, when they said the nominees, he’s like, ‘You have this award. And when they didn’t call my name he was, like, completely shocked. And when he walked on the stage, I was like, ‘No, no, no!’ and then he spoke, and I was like, ‘Oh, no, no, no!’ But in the end, it ended up being a great night, and Taylor Swift did get her moment ? and I didn’t have to make an acceptance speech.?
British retailer Marks & Spencer (M&S) have denied reports that they are to collaborate with singer Taylor Swift on a clothing range.
The 19-year-old was recently quoted in an interview saying that she was to join forces with the company for a new collection of dresses.
However, M&S are now denying the report and say they have no plans to work with the Love Story singer.
An M&S spokesperson said to Splash News: “M&S currently have no plans to collaborate with Taylor Swift on a range of summer dresses as misreported in a recent interview. We always look to bring the most exciting and innovative ranges to suit our customers and such collaborations may be something we look to do in the future.”
Lady Gaga is the latest artist to weigh in on the whole Kanye West-Taylor Swift drama that went down at this year?s VMAs. While promoting their now defunct joint tour, the singer told a Las Vegas radio station that her first reaction to the rapper?s interruption was ?Oh gosh,? but that she thinks it?s ?unfair to judge somebody on one mistake they’ve made.? Lady Gaga said ?He feels so fucking bad. He really does. I think that everyone can get so caught up in gossip and stuff. I felt like that moment kind of like really portrayed him in a way that he really isn’t. It was just a random moment.?
Jay-Z defended his prot?g? Kanye West during a BBC Radio 1 interview last week saying that he didn?t feel it was right for Kanye to be receiving so much backlash from the VMA?s Taylor Swift debacle. The veteran rapper admits ?Of course it was rude because it was her moment, but that’s the way he really felt?I think it was rude, but the way they’re treating him ? He’s on the cover of every paper. He didn’t kill anybody. No one got harmed.? Maybe he should try watching the video and take a closer look at the country singer?s face and really ask himself if no one was harmed.
Kanye West seemed to think that if he continued to apologize for what he did at Sunday night?s MTV VMAs, he can make up for what he did. If he didn?t sound like someone younger than Taylor Swift in his apologies, it might. The rapper released another apology via his blog earlier this week and it?s just as crappy as the first one. He said ?I feel like Ben Stiller in ?Meet the Parents? when he messed up everything and Robert De Niro asked him to leave? That was Taylor’s moment and I had no right in any way to take it from her. I am truly sorry.? Who uses a stupid comedy as an analogy for his apology?
Taylor Swift has spoken out about the rude and bizarre incident at the 2009 MTV VMAs involving Kanye West, all the while remaining as humble and as professional as ever. Those are some words that you will never hear being used to describe the rapper. When asked about the moments on stage, the country singer said ?Well, I was standing on stage because I was really excited because I had just won the award. And then I was really excited because Kanye West was on stage. And then I wasn’t so excited anymore after that.? Celebrities left and right offered their support to Taylor after the incident but Taylor herself doesn?t hold any ill-will, saying ?I don’t know him, and I’ve never met him, so? I don’t want to start anything because I had a great night tonight.?
The past year has treated many artists in the music industry very well but there are also others that didn?t have as much luck with their new releases. The biggest albums of the year sales-wise are Taylor Swift?s ?Fearless? which sold 3.7 million, Michael Jackson?s ?#1?s? which sold 3 million, Beyonce?s ?I Am? Sasha Fierce? which sold 2.4 million and the soundtrack for the movie ?Twilight? which sold 2.2 million. However, not everyone can do well. The Jonas Brothers fever seems to be dying down because the boys only managed to sell 520,000 copies of their new album. Disney starlet Demi Lovato also bombed selling only 240,000 copies of her album. Jordin Sparks, Green Day and Kelly Clarkson are also on the list of so-called failures.
If you don?t like Taylor Swift then something must definitely be wrong with you. The 19-year old country singer has got style, class and a voice that is easy to fall in love with. That?s why I?m pretty excite to hear that on October 27th, Taylor will be re-releasing her mega hit album ?Fearless? with all kinds of stuff to come out with it. The re-release will include six bran new songs as well as a DVD with photos, tour footage and her videos, including her comedic clip with T-Pain from the CMT Awards earlier this year. That?s a pretty smart scheme to squeeze every last drop out of fans.
Destiny’s Child singer Kelly Rowland has praised Beyonce for how she acted at the recent MTV VMAs.
Beyonce, 28, won the video of the year award and gave up her stage time to 19-year-old Taylor Swift.
Kanye West interrupted Swift’s acceptance speech for Best Female Video to say he felt Beyonce deserved to win.
Rowland said: “Beyonce is such a classy, gracious woman. I actually Tweeted that, and everybody was like: ‘It’s so true.’”
She added that she thought Kanye’s interruption was “disturbing”.
She told USmagazine.com: “I think that as a music industry and a fellow artist, it’s important to know that there is room for everybody. Kanye is a genius – no one takes that away from him, but [he should] be moral and be a [good] person.”
