Rising star Jessie J has recently premiered the music video for her song “Price Tag”. It’s the singer’s second UK single and first US single to come off of her upcoming debut album “Who You Are”, which is due out on March 28th in the UK and April 12th in the US. The single features Atlanta rapper BoB. I love the lyrics and the vibe of the song and hoping that it would be a hit of Jessie J. As for the video, it’s simple, colorful and manages to grab the song’s essence. In other Jessie J news, she has confirmed a new tour in the UK and Ireland in Spring 2011, where she will play 7 shows beginning in Glasgow on March 31 and ending in Belfast on April 9.

It looks like becoming an actor wasn’t enough for 50 Cent as the rapper has decided to get more involved with movies behind the scenes with his new production company Mayweather Productions. 50 Cent’s partner in the new venture, Floyd Mayweather Jr., spoke about the company saying “We’re going to do what we normally do: sit in a room and brainstorm and try to come up with new ideas … you know, outside the box. Be creative and just work together and try to be positive. That’s the main thing. It’s about working hard, being positive and working together.” I’m entirely sure of this but it’s his money that’s getting wasted.
A couple of weeks ago, Kanye West announced via Twitter that his joint album with fellow rapper Jay-Z would drop on 1.11.11. The date has come and gone and there’s still no album out. Now, it looks like the album has been delayed further as Kanye went to tweet about it, saying “WATCH THE THRONE COMING IN 2 MONTHS!!!!!!!!!!” With all the delays that this album has seen, it better be good. I suppose I can forgive them if they do make it good. I wasn’t exactly thrilled with their latest single “HAM”. They’re two of the biggest names in hip hop. I would hate to take that back just because of this one album.
Jay Sean is back with a new single called “Hit the Lights” which features rapper Lil Wayne. The song is a definite club banger. The J-Remy and Bobbygass-produced track will officially be released in the UK on February 8th. Jay’s new studio album “Freeze Time” will hit stores two weeks later on February 22nd. I think this song is going to kill on the radio. The singer’s latest track needs to get to number one because I think it’s miles better than “2012”. But if he’s planning to release this in the US, he better ask for some help with Lil Wayne if he wants to score another number one on Billboard’s Hot 100.

Jennifer Lopez recently gave Ryan Seacrest the go signal to premiere her new single “On the Floor”. As announced, this is the final version of the RedOne-produced track and I’m glad to say that it’s so much better than the leaked demo. There’s more of JLo in the intro and rapper Pitbull’s minute long verse was divided into two parts, one at the beginning and another to close the song. The beat is also neater along with some improvement on the pop singer’s vocals. Overall, this version sounds and feels hotter. Now that the song is on US radio, I wonder how long it will take for her to perform it on American Idol.

Nas just had his child and spousal support obligations sliced in half but he still has to pay his ex-wife Kelis a pretty penny. According to legal documents filed in LA County Superior Court, the rapper must now pay just a bit over $5000 a month in child support and $20,000 a month in spousal support. It sounds like a lot but Nas was actually paying twice that until he convinced the judge that the bad economy has hit even the rap business hard. Add the fact that hes not really working and there you go. So this month, Nas gets to pocket an extra $25,000 for himself.
Soulja Boy made a daring claim on his Twitter this past Sunday that was soon re-tweeted by his legions of fans. According to the rapper, Willow Smiths hit song Whip My Hair, which has catapulted the 9-year old singer into superstardom, was actually all his doing. Soulja Boy said YES ITS TRUE I WROTE “WHIP MY HAIR” FOR WILLOW SMITH. THATS WHY SHE SAYS HOP OUT THE BED TURN MY SWAG ON. WE GETTING $$$ 2011 NO GAMES (sic). However, Ronald Jackson and Janae Rockwell are listed as the songwriting team behind the track and not the rapper. Why would he make such a claim to fame? Apparently, Soulja Boy trademarked the phrase turn my swag on after the song became a hit, which means that the songs producers will have to compensate him for using it in Willows song. Shady!
The full version of the unreleased 50 Cent track called Sunday Morning has finally arrived. A snippet of the song leaked back in late 2009. Then a DJ promised that he would be releasing the full song in May 2010 but it wasnt until last week that the song leaked in its entirety. The song is good and has a great vibe. The rapper kills it in the verses. The song was actually crafted during the recording sessions to 50 Cents fourth studio album Before I Self Destruct but it failed to make the final cut. Im not entirely sure why though because I think the song is great and definitely better than some of the music that did make its way into the CD.
50 Cent Sunday Morning New Song
Chris Brown released a song this past Friday called Where Do We Go from Here via his official Twitter. The Jim Jonsin-produced track features rapper Pitbull. All I can say about it is that I absolutely love it! The song has an electro dance vibe that screams hit. Pitbull is actually in charge of the verses while Chris takes over for the choruses. Its a great effort that I hope to see on the R&B singers upcoming album FAME. However, it seems like its just a buzz record to increase the hype for Chris new music. I cant help but say thanks though for giving out such a great tune.

An unreleased track of Eminems has found its way online. The track is called Cocaine and it features the vocals of R&B singer Jazmine Sullivan. This collaboration was part of the recording sessions for the rappers Recovery album but it missed the final cut. It is now thought that the song will be used on a future re-release of the LP. Its a great song that both of the artists killed on. I never thought that they would actually collaborate but Ive learned to never say never. However, I dont see this song getting the single treatment though. It deserves to be part of an album but I dont think its strong enough to warrant single status.
Eminem and Jazmine Sullivan Cocaine
The model whose hair went up in flames at a party thrown by Diddy earlier this month got a pretty good Christmas gift courtesy of the rap mogul as the rapper has offered to pay whatever it takes to repair the damage. Miyoki Jones recently became a human torch when she got too close to a candle at Diddys album release party and the fiery event was seen by millions on his Ustream. According to a source close to the model, Diddy called her up shortly after the incident to see how she was doing and then offered to foot the bill for her hair repair, no matter what the cost. Miyoki has reportedly already set up an appointment and the work is expected to run Diddy around a thousand bucks.
Two men were arrested earlier this week for breaking into 50 Cents 52-room Connecticut mansion. The police were alerted of the break in around 6 in the morning when the rappers security team found a suspicious car in the driveway. Cops arrived to discover the robbers red handed with one of the thieves found hiding in the closet chugging a bottle of wine. Officials say that the men entered through an unlocked door and were in possession of marijuana when they arrived at the home. Both men are being held on a $50,000 bond. There was no word if 50 Cent was at home at the time.
Michael Jacksons first posthumous LP Michael leaked on the internet recently and with it, one of the most anticipated songs to listen to. Im talking about the collaboration that the King of Pop recording with 50 Cent called Monster. The track was produced by Teddy Riley and I absolutely love it. Its a funky song where both the iconic singer and the rapper killed it. While the song was recorded several years ago, it sounds like something that would work out in the current market of the music if its released in the right manner. What do you think of the track?

One of the most anticipated tracks from TIs upcoming album No Mercy, which hits stores on December 7, has leaked onto the internet. The rappers song is actually a duet featuring Christina Aguilera called Castle Walls and it seems that it will serve as the new single from TIs seventh LP and the follow up to Get Back Up featuring Chris Brown. I absolutely love Castle Walls with the stripped back chorus that sounds so vulnerable in the middle of the harsh rap. Christina killed it with this one. I think we might be seeing the 29-year old singer back on top of the charts with this one. Maybe she could do a part 2 of this much like Rihanna has done with Love the Way You Lie.

Kanye West is featured on the cover of the latest issue of Complex magazine. Instead of having an intensive interview with the rapper, the magazine had some of Kanyes friends talk about him. One such comment was from friend and collaborator Nicki Minaj. She said Hes a legend in hip-hop and in pop culture and to be on his album is a blessing. I dont even remember him ever working with a female rapper, so to be on an album and on a record this monstrous? I couldnt have planned it better in a perfect world. At least Kanye knows that there are some people in this world that still like him.
BoB keeps on releasing singles from his debut album The Adventures of Bobby Ray which was released in April of this year. After the rappers chart-topping hits Nothin on You featuring Bruno Mars, Airplanes featuring Hayley Williams and Magic featuring Rivers Cuomo, he has now released the song Dont Let Me Fall. Its actually one of my favorite cuts from BoBs album and Im so happy that it got picked to be a single. The music video has also recently premiered. I wonder if he will just keep on releasing singles from his debut album or if hes actually planning to make a new album soon. Either way, hes got great music and I cant wait to see what he has in store.

Nicki Minaj is featured on the cover of the upcoming issue of Billboard magazine which names the 25-year old rapper The First Lady of Hip Hop. In the accompanying interview, Nicki talks about her rapping style, saying When I started rapping, people were trying to make me like the typical New York rapper, but Im not that. No disrespect to New York rappers, but I dont want people to hear me and know exactly where Im from. I wanted the album to be universal and versatile. It really feels like it speaks for every one of my personalities. Its great that she wants to set herself apart from everyone else. I think thats why she has a lot of people supporting her.

Kanye West has cancelled his November 26 Today Show concert in the wake of his torturous interview with Matt Lauer. The rapper went on Twitter to announce the news, saying Im not performing on the Today Show for obvious reasons. Im so happy the world got to see just a small piece of the set up. I blatantly said Im not performing on a tweet and to everyone around me and the next day they still announced a performance. Do you guys see what Im saying now? This is just a small slice of the day to day bull- that goes on to help precipitate the idea that Im an an ass- cause when I dont perform oh noooow Im the one thats crazy or a jerk! Pitbull recently premiered the music video for Hey Baby (Drop it to the Floor). The song is the official lead single from the rappers upcoming album Planet Pit which is set to hit stores on December 14th. The song was produced by French electro-house producer Sandy Vee and also features auto-tune king T-Pain. Its the type of song that grows on you the more you hear it but Im sad that Pitbull is going in a new direction with his music and decided to drop the Latin flavor that made me love him in the first place. As for the video, its just like any club-themed video with Pitbull and T-Pain having a great time.

Eminem has come out to say that he was bullied so harshly as a child that his mother actually filed a lawsuit against the Detroit school system. The rappers history of being bullied started in elementary school when a bully split his lip open and knocked the wind out of him. Over time, Eminem suffered more beatings from the same bully. In his worst run-in, the bully hit Eminem in the face with a snowball containing a heavy object or a piece of ice and then proceeded to beat him up which resulted in a concussion and temporary loss of vision in one eye. Eminem has recently been speaking out against bullying in an effort to combat the trend of suicides resulting from anti-gay bullying in schools.
Eminem and Rihanna are going to reunite to record a sequel to their hit song Love the Way You Lie. The song, which is simply titled Love the Way You Lie (Part 2), will feature the female side of the story line that began in the original song. And it seems that its going to be just as intense and emotional and the R&B singer and rappers first collaboration. Some of the lyrics go Even angels have their wing cut schemes, and you take that to new extremes, but you will always be my hero, even though you lost your mind. The song will be produced by Alex Da Kid and will be featured on Rihannas upcoming album Loud, which hits stores on November 16.

Nicki Minaj has been credited on seven songs that have ranked on the Nielsen/SoundScans list of 200 best-selling songs this year. The songs have a combined sales numbers of 4,298,000 copies. Whats even more amazing than that is that the rapper hasnt even released her debut album yet! With her own album set to come out at the end of November, I bet that Nicki will be doing even greater damage in the market. Shes going to dominate the music industry for sure. Nielsen/SoundScan better make more room for her on their list and the charts better recognize her immense talent.
Kanye West has finally gotten a release date for his fifth and as yet untitled album. The rappers new record will hit stores on November 22nd. It comes at a pretty good time too as it will be dropping right before everyone starts their holiday shopping. However, Kanye has to compete with the likes of Ne-Yo, Flo Rida, Nicki Minaj and Akon who also have albums coming out the very same week. Thats a lot of competition to deal with but I have a feeling that Kanye will do just fine. Im placing my bet on him to earn the top spot on the charts.

Kanye West returned to reprise his role as locally famous rapper Kenny West in the season premiere of The Cleveland Show this week. The episode featured a brand new song performed by Kanye and the voice of lead character Cleveland Brown, Mike Henry, called Be-cleve in Yourself. Producers said that though this was the second time they were working with Kanye, there were still nervous to have him in the studio. But everyone was in agreement that Kanye didnt come with an ego, coming in early and prepared and was nothing but a joy to work with. He even reportedly performed a spontaneous rap for everyone in the office. Cool!

Eminem is going to get paid as a federal appeals court has found that the rappers former production company FBT Productions LLC is entitled to royalties by Universal Music Group for music downloaded over iTunes or sold as cell phone ringtones. The appeals court ruled that the contracts between the two companies unambiguously applies to permanent downloads and master-tones which entitles Eminem and his producers to a 50-50 split for recordings licensed to iTunes and other digital distributors. Its being said that this ruling could potentially affect how record labels and artists make financial deals in the future. Thats definitely something to watch out for.
Nicki Minaj will be performing her hit single Your Love at the 2010 MTV VMAs Pre-Show on Sunday, September 12. This will be the first-ever televised performance from the female rapper and I cant wait to see what shes got. Nicki said I am truly honored to be a part of this years VMAs. Just yesterday I was an underground female rapper. See Barbz? Dreams do come true. Starting on Tuesday, she will launch a Twitter contest in which 10 lucky fans will win a front row spot to watch her perform. Winners will be announced on Friday, September 10.
