Casey Abrams breaks new ground again

After being the very first American Idol contestant to use a stand-up bass as an instrument, Casey Abrams has once again broken new ground by singing Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit”. Last night’s American Idol episode was all about songs from the contestant’s year of birth so Casey Abrams made a very interesting and unique choice. He also used a bass on stage. As for the performance itself, Casey Abrams is definitely no Kurt Cobain and his rendition wasn’t really one hundred percent accurate, but he did manage to get into the spirit of things and that seems to have counted a lot with the judges. Steven Tyler actually said that Casey Abrams is “so crazy, so good and so talented and that is the perfect match”.

Robert Pattinson to Play Kurt Cobain

Ξ April 12th, 2010 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Nirvana, Robert Pattinson |

Universal Pictures is in talks with Kurt Cobain?s widow Courtney Love to produce a biopic based on his life with the band Nirvana. The Hole singer has agreed to be involved if she can decide the main aspects of the project, like who will portray Kurt and herself. Courtney picks Scarlett Johansson for herself and Robert Pattinson for Kurt. Both actors can undoubtedly pull off the parts and apparently, Rob thinks the same as when news of the part became Hollywood knowledge, he started getting in contact with Courtney non-stop! I wonder if he?s going to sing for that movie if it pushes through.

Former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl has revealed that that he always knew that his Nirvana bandmate Kurt Cobain would not have a long life.

Grohl, 40, admitted that he had prepared himself for the eventuality.

He said: “There are some people that you meet in life that you just know that they are not going to live to be a 100 years old.

In some ways, you kind of prepare yourself emotionally for that to be a reality.”

But he admitted that, even so, Cobain’s suicide in 1994 still came as a shock to him, and that it was one of the worst moments of his life.

He said: “It was a terrible surprise. It was probably the worst thing that has happened to me in my life. I remember the day after that, I woke up and I was heartbroken that he was gone…?

Grohl, who is now the drummer in rock group Them Crooked Vultures, added: ?Usually, it takes something like that for people to appreciate life as a gift and you have to take advantage of the time that you have.

“Sometimes, you just can’t save someone from themselves.”

Nirvana Live At Reading To Premeir On Fuse

Ξ October 23rd, 2009 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Album, CD, DVD, Live, Music, Music Bands, Nirvana, Video |

On November 2 at 11 p.m. ET, Fuse, the national music network, will televise the worldwide premiere of Nirvana Live at Reading, the band’s legendary, never-before-released 1992 Reading concert. The show, marking the first time that Nirvana fans will experience the epochal August 30, 1992 headlining appearance at UK’s Reading Festival, will debut as an hour long broadcast the night before the limited edition 90 minute CD+DVD Deluxe Edition is by Geffen/UMe.

Featuring 25 songs including “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” “All Apologies” and “Come As You Are,” Nirvana’s performance at Reading ranked No. 1 in Kerrang Magazine’s “100 Gigs That Shook The World” chart and was voted as “Nirvana’s No. 1 Greatest Moment” by fans in a recent NME poll.

“Fuse is excited to provide Nirvana fans with the first opportunity to witness this historic music event since the concert 17 years ago,” said David Weier, vice president, programming, Fuse. “Not only are we airing a highly anticipated, never-before-seen concert in more than 65 million homes, we are providing Nirvana’s loyal fan base with companion programming for a comprehensive and unique viewing experience.”

Leading up to the premiere of Nirvana Live at Reading, Fuse will air “Loaded: Nirvana,” a half-hour of Nirvana’s greatest music videos at 10 p.m. ET, followed by “Videos That Rocked the World: Smells Like Teen Spirit,” a celebration of the legendary music video which was a breakthrough for music, entertainment, culture and society.

While the show’s centerpiece was a performance of nearly the entire Nevermind tracklist, also noteworthy were early performances of three as yet unrecorded songs which wouldn’t be released until 2 years later on In Utero: “All Apologies,” “Dumb,” and in its first ever public performance, “Tourettes.” The career-spanning setlist also reached back to the band’s 1989 Sub Pop debut album, Bleach, for “Blew,” “About A Girl,” “School,” “Negative Creep” and first single “Love Buzz,” and even further back to the mid-’80s for “Spank Thru.” Other songs from the Reading set would appear in studio form on the Incesticide compilation later in the year: “Aneurysm,” “Been A Son” and “Sliver.” Additionally, the band played a pair of beloved covers by two bands that helped shape the formative Nirvana sound– “The Money Will Roll Right In” by Fang and “D-7″ by The Wipers.

Courtney Love VS Guitar Hero

Ξ September 15th, 2009 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Courtney Love, Games, Nirvana, twitter |

If you thought Courtney Love was on board with having her late husband Kurt Cobain become a playable character on Guitar Hero 5, you might want to think again. The singer?s widow recently took to her Twitter to comment on the game, saying ?For the record this Guitar Hero shit is breach of contract on a Bullys part and there will be a proper addressing of this and retraction. WE are going to sue the shit out of ACtivision we being the Trust the Estate the LLC the various LLCs Cobain Enterprises.? The game?s career mode has the animated Nirvana front man sing Bon Jovi?s ?You Give Love a Bad Name?, yell Flava Flav?s catch phrase and do Bush karaoke. What a travesty!

Nirvana backs Courtney Love on Guitar Hero dispute

Members of the late Kurt Cobain’s band Nirvana appear to be backing Courtney Love on the question of using his image on a computer game.

Krist Novoselic and Dave Grohl (pictured) said in a joint statement they were “dismayed and very disappointed” over the use by Guitar Hero of an avatar of Cobain. The avatar can be instructed by a player to sing the songs of other musicians.

The pair said: “While we were aware of Kurt’s image being used with two Nirvana songs, we didn’t know players have the ability to unlock the character. This feature allows the character to be used with any kind of song the player wants. We urge Activision to do the right thing in ‘re-locking’ Kurt’s character so that this won’t continue in the future.”

Courtney Love, Cobain’s widow, unleashed an angry Twitter tirade over the matter. The litigious Love is threatening to sue Activision, the maker of Guitar Hero. The company, meanwhile, claims it cleared the rights to use the avatar with Cobain’s estate in a written agreement that was signed by Love.
