New Video from Pia Toscano – This Time

Ξ August 15th, 2011 | → 0 Comments | ∇ American Idol, Singers, Video |

Pia Toscano recently premiered the music video for her debut single “This Time”. The American Idol album looks absolutely graceful and slightly angelic in the clip for the Ester Dean-written track. I love Pia and I love the song to death but the clip could’ve been something better. Nevertheless, all the beauty shots and pretty landscapes really go well with the song’s vibe. The performance shots in the city I could have done without. It just doesn’t fit with the rest of the video. I can forgive Pia and her camp though. The singer is very busy with the American Idol tour so I actually take my hat off to her for finding some time off to work on the video.

X Factor alum Cher Lloyd recently premiered the official music video for her debut single “Swagger Jagger”. After hearing the track, I had already labeled it as too annoying but the rapper managed to come out with a very cool piece of visual to go with it that has me thinking about giving her single another chance. I’ll probably hate it again after a while but I can’t really deny that the video is cool. I can’t really describe it as anything but very Cher. It also sees the rapper dancing “hood” style over a series of visually-engaging graffiti special effects and green screen sets.

Javier Colon’s First Single – Stitch by Stitch

Ξ July 3rd, 2011 | → 0 Comments | ∇ The Voice |

The soulful singer from Stratford, Javier Colon, was recently crowned as the first ever champion of the NBC hit reality TV talent show The Voice. Javier’s first official single is the song he performed on the finale performance night, “Stitch by Stitch”. The song was especially written for him by Dave Hodges, Dave Bassett and Lindy Robbins, and produced by Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins. I have high hopes for Javier’s music career and with the industry being high on R&B singers as of late, there’s a really good chance for him to gain success. Again, congratulations to Javier and good luck!

Cobra Starship recently premiered the music video for their song “You Make Me Feel” via MTV. The synth pop band’s very catchy, albeit sounding like a Calvin Harris rip off, single is the lead track from their upcoming album “Night Shades”. The track also features upcoming rapper Sabi. In any case, I like the song. The beat is hot and Sabi’s hook is blazing. As for the video, I think it’s just meh. It’s still that basic club and party concept where lead singer Gabe Saporta has fun in a photo booth while Sabi works it out on the pole.

I waited four long months to finally be able to watch the music video for Eminem’s “Space Bound”. The Jim Jonsin-produced track is the fourth single from the rapper’s album “Recovery”. The clip was directed by Joseph Kahn and was filmed over a 3-day period in Los Angeles back in February. Apparently, the editing process was really complicated. But forget about the delay and let’s talk about how amazing the video is! The storyline is clever. The two Eminems, the girlfriend played by former porn star Sasha Grey, the relationship problems, the split screen and the ending. Just wow! It’s so intense that you’d lose focus on the song completely.

Justin Bieber Set to Appear on BET Awards

It has been confirmed that Justin Bieber is scheduled to make an appearance at the BET Awards. How could the most popular act in the music business not make an appearance at the annual hip hop and R&B award show anyway? Note my sarcasm. The 17-year old pop, I reiterate, pop singer joins a list of other artists including Beyonce, Mary J Blige, Kelly Rowland, Trey Songz, Lil Wayne, Drake, Chris Brown, Alicia Keys, Rick Ross, Ace Hood, DJ Khaled and Jill Scott. If Chris Brown is performing, I’m willing to bet that Justin will perform alongside him with their collaboration “Next 2 You”.

Enrique Iglesias has recently premiered the music video for his song “Dirty Dancer” via VEVO. The track is the latest single from the pop singer’s album “Euphoria”. The clip for the RedOne-produced track was directed by Ethan Lader, who has previously directed videos for Mariah Carey, BoB and Bruno Mars. For a high-budget and futuristic-themed video, the concept for Enrique’s video was quite simple. It serves its purpose well enough thought and is in line with the song’s lyrics so I guess it’s not really a bad thing. Check it out so you can see for yourself exactly what I mean.

Of course, the concert was filled with new tracks from her “Femme Fatale” album as well, with the closing song being “Til the World Ends”. Bruno Mars Makes History

Ξ June 16th, 2011 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Music |

Bruno Mars has scored nothing but perfection with his music this past year and now, the R&B singer has made history. Bruno’s smash hit “Just the Way You Are” just reached its 20th week at the number 1 spot on Billboard’s Adult Contemporary chart. He has beaten out Colbie Caillat and Daniel Powter, and now has the longest-reigning debut single in the list’s almost 50-year history. I think that it’s very well deserved. It’s been months since the song has been released and I still haven’t gotten sick of it. Heck, I’m listening to it right now. Congratulations to Bruno on the achievement!

Beyonce is featured on the cover of the July issue of Dazed & Confused magazine. The summer music special features the 29-year old R&B singer/actress in what the magazine calls “a scorching hot trailer park fantasy”. When asked about taking her little time away from the music industry, Beyonce said “I needed some time to live. I’ve been signed to the same label since I was 12 years old and never had more than a month and a half off since I was 13. I’ve worked so hard for so many years and just felt like, ‘Well, why not?’” She definitely deserved that break but it’s also great to see and hear her new music.

UK boy band The Wanted has recently premiered the music video for their song “Glad You Came”. The track is the second single to come off of their upcoming new studio album, which is out later this year. The very catchy single was produced by Steve Mac, Wayne Hector and Ed Drewett. It’s a great pop record with an infectious beat, dancehall influence and rhyming verses. As for the music video, it sees the members of the group partying it up on the paradise island that is Ibiza. It’s a good visual and fits the song’s summery vibe really well.

Eminem and Royce da 5’9 have a new song out called “Lighters”. The rappers, who together form the hip hop duo Bad Meets Evil, have this track on their upcoming album “Hell: The Sequel” out on June 14th. “Lighters” was one of the most anticipated tracks from the album as it sees the first collaboration between two of the music industry’s biggest players today – Eminem and Bruno Mars. In the song, Bruno shows off his wide vocal range and vulnerable side on the chorus and bridge. I really think this track should eventually be a single. Eminem is capable of having a top 10 hit on his own, same with Bruno. The two of them together, as well as Royce da 5’9 – smash hit!

American rock band Kings of Leon recently premiered the official music video for their song “Back Down South”. The track is the third single to be lifted off of their latest album “Come Around Sundown”. The song is so relaxing and there’s just something about it that makes me want to smile. It also shows footage from the band performing a live concert outdoors in a rural setting in front of a group of a group of lucky members of the Kings of Leon fan club.

Now, he has announced that he’ll be releasing his new album “Black and White America” on August 22. He’s also announced that he’s got a tour of Europe in the works. I’m glad to see that things are going well for Lenny. I’m pumped to hear some new music from him and I’m really looking forward to seeing him in “Hunger Games”. Lil Wayne has a new song out called “How to Love”. The track is the third official single from the rapper’s ninth studio LP “Tha Carter IV”. It’s not the typical material from Lil Wayne but I actually like it. Drake better watch out because he may have some competition when it comes to this style of music. Lil Wayne shows off a softer side in this new song, mostly singing instead of rapping throughout the guitar-driven production. Once you get used to the idea of Lil Wayne as a singer, you’ll get into the song. It’s been on repeat ever since I heard it.

Lil Wayne – How to Love Lyrics
[Lil Wayne talks]
Cut the music up.
A little louder, yeah.

[Chorus]
You had a lot of crooks try to steal your heart,
Never really had luck, couldn’t never figure out
How to love, how to love, mmm.

You had a lot of moments that didn’t last forever,
Now you in the corner trying to put it together.
How to love, how to love, mmm.

For a second you were here, now you over there, It’s hard not to stare,
The way you moving your body like you never had a love.
Never had a love.

[Verse 1]
When you was just a younging your looks were so precious,
But now you’re grown up, so fly it’s like a blessing.
But ya can’t have a man look at you for 5 seconds without you being insecure.
You never credited yourself, so when you got older,
It seems like you came back 10 times over.

[Pre-Chorus]
Now you’re sitting here, in this damn corner looking through all your thoughts
And looking over your shoulders saying,

[Chours]
You had a lot of crooks try to steal your heart,
Never really had luck, couldn’t never figure out
How to love, how to love, mmm.

You say you had a lot of moments that didn’t last forever,
Now you in this corner trying to put it together.
How to love, how to love, mmm.

For a second you were here, now you over there, It’s hard not to stare,
The way you moving your body like you never had a love.
How to love, ohh.

[Verse 2]
And you had a lot of dreams, that transformed to visions.
The fact that you saw the world affected all your decisions.

[ From: http://www.metrolyrics.com/how-to-love-lyrics-lil-wayne.html ]

But it, wasn’t your fault, wasn’t in your intension’s.
If you don’t wanna hear talking to me, ain’t no one listening.
But, But I admire popping bottles and dipping,
Just as much as you remind your bar tending is tripping, baby.
So don’t be mad, nobody else tripping.

[Pre-Chorus]
You seen a lot of crooks and them crooks still crooks.

[Chorus]
You had a lot of crooks try to steal your heart,
Never really had luck, couldn’t never figure out
How to love, how to love, mmm.

You say you had a lot of moments that didn’t last forever,
Now you in this corner trying to put it together.
How to love, how to love, ooh.

[Bridge]
See, I just want you to know that you deserve the best.
You’re beautiful, ooh.
You’re beautiful, Yeah.
And I want you to know, you’re far from the usual, far from the usual.

[Chorus]
See you had a lot of crooks try to steal your heart,
Never really had luck, couldn’t never figure out
How to love, how to love, mmm.

You say you had a lot of moments that didn’t last forever,
Now you in this corner trying to put it together.
How to love, how to love, mmm.

See you had a lot of crooks try to steal your heat,
Never really had luck, couldn’t never figure out
How to love, how to love, yeahh.

See you had a lot of moments that didn’t last forever,
Now you in this corner trying to put it together.
How to love, how to love, mmmm.

Next to take the American Idol stage was James Durbin, dressed in all black with lots of spikes and studs, performing with rock and roll legends Judas Priest on “Breaking the Law”. James was clearly having the time of his life. This whole performance screamed so much of an actual concert for me. There were some serious pyro going on and just an all out amazing performance. James even got a standing ovation from the judges. Why couldn’t he have been part of the top 2? It would have been a more exciting finale night if he was. New Video from Diddy – Looking for Love

Ξ May 26th, 2011 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Music, Music Video, P. Diddy, Usher |

Diddy-Dirty Money has recently premiered the music video for their millionth single off their “Last Train to Paris” album. The latest, and hopefully the last, single the hip hop band has decided to release is the Usher-assisted and Polow Da Don-produced “Looking for Love”. As for the video, it was actually shot way back in November 2010 and has remained hidden in the vault until now. It’s a sleek visual but I doubt the single will do anything to help the album any. “Coming Home” was the beginning and end of this Diddy album. He should just focus on making new music instead of releasing more singles from “Last Train to Paris”.

American Idol Performance Recap: Round 3

Ξ May 25th, 2011 | → 0 Comments | ∇ American Idol, Music Video, Performance |

Round three of American Idol performance night saw the top 2 singers take on the songs that they’ll record if they win. Scotty McCreery got “I Love You This Big”. This was actually a good song, especially for the finale. I guess it pays to have Jimmy Iovine involved. It has a good hook and I think it would do well on the radio. Scotty owned it too. Lauren Alaina got “Like My Mother Does”. This was actually better than what Scotty got. After her performance, I think it was pretty much nailed down that she’s going to win. While she sang it very well, I think it will have little to do with that. Round three for me, as well as for the judges, goes to Lauren.

Swedish House Mafia has recently premiered the music video for their single “Save the World”. The uplifting club-ready tune is their offering for 2011’s summer parties and it features vocals by up and coming Swedish singer John Martin. As for the music video, it was shot in LA and released via VEVO recently. The premise is quite clear, a diner attendant on a late shirt, a gentleman chilling in his car and two ladies walking the streets are the targets of different assailants. And when Swedish House Mafia ask who’s gonna save the world tonight, their answer is dogs. I love the video concept!

The Black Eyed Peas hit the stage at the 2011 Billboard Music Awards which was held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas this past Sunday. The hip hop band performed a medley of their songs “Just Can’t Get Enough” and “I Gotta Feeling”. Fergie, will.i.am, apl.de.ap and Taboo always put on a good show but I can’t help but feel like they need to come up with some new music already. I’m just already sick of having to hear “I Gotta Feeling”. That’s just me though. Anyways, they had a great performance on the show. It definitely kept the energy up.

American Idol Elimination Results

Ξ May 20th, 2011 | → 0 Comments | ∇ American Idol, Performance, TV Show |

We finally found out which two singers will be battling it out on American Idol season 10’s finale next week. After all the commercials, video packages and guest performances, Ryan Seacrest was handed the envelope, the lights were dimmed and someone was sent home. I was hoping for the top 2 to be Scotty McCreery and Haley Reinhart but after the performance night seeing Haley deal with some of the toughest songs and the judges siding more with Lauren Alaina, I was really nervous about the elimination. And apparently, I had reason to be when Ryan revealed that it was Haley that was going home. They may be touted as the most talented bunch but this season had robbed so many great singers that I’m saying this sucks the most.

American Idol Top 3 Perform

Ξ May 19th, 2011 | → 0 Comments | ∇ American Idol, Music, Video |

The top 3 singers on American Idol season 10 each got to perform 3 songs last night – 1 being their choice, another being Jimmy Iovine’s choice and the last being a judge’s choice. For the first round (singer’s choice), Scotty McCreery sang “Amazed”; Lauren Alaina did “Wild One”; and Haley Reinhart performed “What is & What should Never Be”. All 3 judges agreed that round 1 was for Haley. For the second round (Jimmy’s pick), Scotty sang “Are You Gonna Kiss Me or Not”; Lauren sang “If I Die Young”; and Haley did “Rhiannon”. Randy Jackson and Jennifer Lopez give this round to Scotty while Steven Tyler votes for Lauren. For the last round, Scotty did “She Believes in Me”; Lauren sang “I Hope You Dance”; and Haley did “You Oughta Know”. Who do you think will be going home tonight?

Paul McCartney to Release Pop Standards Album

Ξ May 17th, 2011 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Beatles, New Album, Paul McCartney |

Paul McCartney has just finished recording an album that’s devoted to covers of pop standards from the pre-rock years. The iconic singer worked with an orchestra to record nearly a dozen songs, including some with Diana Krall and her band. Paul explains “It’s my dad’s style of music. I’ve wanted to do that kind of thing forever, since the Beatle days. But then Rod [Stewart] went mad on it. I thought, ‘I have to wait so it doesn’t look like I’m trying to do a Rod.’ They’re just songs I admire, I’m trying to steer away from the obvious ones. It’s get-home-from-work music. You put it on and get a glass of wine.” Paul also plans on going the opposite direction and will begin work on another album with heavier rock, with hopes of working with Dave Grohl. He said “It sounds quite wacky, but it keeps it fresh. I love that – you get a crazy idea and go with it. You never know – I may run into a garage to make this other album. But it won’t be in Dave’s garage.” I can’t wait to hear this.

American Idol Review

Ξ May 13th, 2011 | → 0 Comments | ∇ American Idol, Music, Music People, Video |

America was shocked last night when American Idol favorite James Durbin didn’t get a coveted spot in the top 3. Most fans expected Haley Reinhart to be going home, especially with the amount of negative comments that she’s been getting from the judges. I actually thought this season was James’ for the taking. He may not have the best vocals each and every week but he’s the only guy who really went out there to perform and gave the crowd an amazing show. I always felt like he was doing his solo concert every week. Needless to say, I think James will be fine once he hits the real world of music. However, that doesn’t prevent me from saying that he got robbed.

Glee Producer to Launch Own Label

Ξ May 11th, 2011 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Glee, TV Show |

Adam Anders, the executive music producer for “Glee”, has been successful in co-producing over 100 Billboard Hot 100 hits for the hit TV show. Now, he’s looking to capitalize on his success by making his own record label. Adam is currently working on albums by Zac Poor and Ben Burgess, and his first release will be the self-titled debut album of Disney star Shane Harper. When talking about the direction his record label will take, Adam said “I don’t believe in putting out a single and then if it doesn’t hit, drop the artist. We are here to develop artists — there is no timetable to getting it right.” I agree! I think that’s exactly what the music industry needs, a nurturing environment.

New Video from Pitbull – Give Me Everything

Ξ May 11th, 2011 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Music, Music Video, Ne-Yo |

Cuban-American rapper Pitbull recently premiered the music video for his new smash hit “Give Me Everything” via VEVO. The track, which features Ne-Yo and up and coming singer Nayer, has peaked thus far at the #13 spot on Billboard’s Hot 100. I think it’s likely to crack the top 10 now with a visual in support of it. Speaking of the visual, the David Rousseau-directed clip captured the song’s essence and showed a non-stop party. If you want more of Pitbull and his music, his new album “Planet Pit” will be hitting stores on June 21st. What do you think?

New Video from Moby – The Day

Moby is back with the music video for his song “The Day”. The track is the first single to come off of the singer’s upcoming album “Destroyed”, which is due out on May 16th. In the video, the very beautiful actress Heather Graham stars as an angelic nurse. The visual is also loaded with some very spiritual images depicting the battle between good and evil for a dying woman’s soul. That’s pretty deep. I usually don’t understand any of Moby’s videos but this one is definitely an interesting watch. Check out the video and tell me what you think of it.

New Video from Panic at the Disco – Ready to Go

Ξ May 6th, 2011 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Music, Music Bands, Music Video |

Panic at the Disco has recently premiered the music video for their song “Ready to Go”. The track is the official second single from the rock band’s latest album, and the first work as a two-piece group, “Vices & Virtues”. The video was directed by Shane Drake, who also directed several other visuals for Panic at the Disco, including “The Ballad of Mona Lisa” and their 2006 VMA-winning video for “I Write Sins Not Tragedies”. I love this song and I love the video. Anything by Panic at the Disco, I’m a fan of. Add the fact that Shane directed it, even more so.
