The same guys who sued Common for copyright infringement have also set their sights on Bone Thugs n Harmony and Akon, accusing the hip hop artists of ripping them off of the exact same song that they were suing rapper Common for. In a lawsuit that was filed just a day after Common?s, Songster, LLC, which owns the rights to the song ?When Will the Day Come?, claims that Bone Thugs, Akon and producer Swizz Beatz ripped off their music for the collaboration ?I Tried?. Songster is seeking unspecified damages. There?s no word on who they will sue next. What is this, a collect and select type of thing?

Have you ever heard of the band Geggy Tah? I haven?t but Pharrell has. One of its band members recently accused the hip hop artist of some serious musical thievery. In a federal lawsuit which was filed last week, Thomas Jordan claims the Pharell produced track ?All I Wanna Do (Feel Like Me)? is a complete rip off of the Geggy Tah?s 1996 tune ?Whoever You Are?. The suit alleges that Pharell produced his song for the rap group The Clipse back in 1997 but the song wasn?t released until 2007. And yet it took him two years to file a lawsuit.

New Kids on the Block Lawsuit

I could barely tolerate a New Kids on the Block reunion so why would anyone think that another band of the same name will be a good thing? The original NKOTB recently filed a Federal lawsuit against SM Productions, who is 2005, allegedly attempted ?to form a new group also entitled ‘New Kids on the Block’? so that the company could record music with a band that people thought were the real thing. The suit also claims that SMP tried to register the band?s name and album art from ?Hangin? Tough? with the US Patents and Trademark Office. NKOTB is suing years later because they want the court to officially tell everyone that the name of the band belongs to the band alone.

The Lemonheads VS GM

The people over at General Motors might need to get a bigger bailout if they end up losing a new lawsuit over music they allegedly took from The Lemonheads. In a lawsuit recently filed in Federal Court in Los Angeles, the band?s lead singer Evan Dando claims that GM never got his permission before using the song ?It?s a Shame About Ray? in several of the car company?s Memorial Sales Event commercials back in 2008. Dando is suing for unspecified damages. Good luck to him with that considering that GM practically has no money of their own to give away.

Now that Britney Spears is making money again, she?s being sued by the photographer whose foot she once ran over. Mind you, the whole thing was caught on tape for people to ridicule. Rick Mendoza was a casualty of the recovered pop star?s Mercedes as she was pulling out of a Beverly Hills parking structure back when she was still looney in 2007. In the lawsuit, Mendoza says that the singer?s people, who are also defendants, ?should have known…Britney was not in the mental, emotional and/or physical condition to operate the subject motor vehicle in a safe and reasonable manner.?

He?s still got an assault charge against him but Chris Brown is already being sued by someone else. A photographer claims that the R&B singer was involved in a violent incident on a Los Angeles basketball court back in March. According to the lawsuit, the photographer claims it all went down just weeks after the Rihanna incident when he shot a photo of Chris playing ball with his friends. He then claimed that Chris? bodyguards yelled at him so he tried to leave the gym but an LA Fitness employee blocked his escape. The photographer then fell down a stairwell which allowed the bodyguards to catch up with him where they ?picked him up by his shorts and physically assaulted him.? He is suing Chris and LA Fitness for assault and battery, false imprisonment, intentional infliction of emotional distress, negligence and premises liability.

Chris Martin Comments on Lawsuits

Ξ May 26th, 2009 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Coldplay |

Coldplay front man Chris Martin has finally come out to talk about the accusations that he has ripped off guitarist Joe Satriani?s ?If I Could Fly?, which bears resemblance to the hit ?Viva La Vida?. Yusaf Islam, formerly known as Cat Stevens, also claims that the hit Coldplay song took from one of his songs too. Chris said ?If everyone’s trying to take away our best song, then we’d better write 25 better ones. And so just at the point where I was thinking about getting fat and becoming complacent, I’ve been finding more inspiration. Now we’ve got more to prove than ever before. Some people are suing us at the moment and although it was initially a bit depressing, now it’s become really inspiring.? Obviously, he?s never heard of the term originality.
