The Rock in Rio festival has returned to Brazil after 10 years and to kick things off in a big way, organizers packed the first day with top international stars. One of the artists who was tasked to set the tone for the rest of the festival for the100,000 people gathered at Rio de Janeiro was Katy Perry. The pop singer performed an energetic set that revised the hit singles from her two studio albums including “California Gurls”, “Firework”, “Thinking of You”, “Hot N Cold” and more. Katy live in concert is always a sight to see and she didn’t disappoint at the music festival.

Natalia Kills celebrated the US release of her debut album “Perfectionist” last week with an intimate acoustic performance atop the roof of the Atlas Hotel in New York City. The British singer/songwriter sang her heart out! Natalia slays everyone with her songs “Free”, her new US singler, “Wonderland”, my favorite in her whole album”, and “Love is a Suicide”. She wore an elegant outfit for the occasion and I think she delivered one of her best live shows to date. I loved the theatrics too! Grab her album now, and catch her on her current US club tour and on select dates of Katy Perry’s current California Dreams tour.

Adele made it back to the top of the Billboard 200 albums chart for the tenth consecutive week last week. Now, the British singer is having even more success on the charts with “Rolling in the Deep” finding its way to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart for its seventh week. I’m also happy to announce that Katy Perry’s “Last Friday Night (TGIF)” has made it to the top 5 of the Hot 100. The song is also doing very well in the Digital Songs chart where it sits at number 1, replacing Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep”, which fell back to number 5. A huge shout out goes to Pitbull for holding the number 2 spot on the Hot 100 with “Give Me Everything” too. Congratulations guys!
The singer seems to be very optimistic and excited about her upcoming tour and she wants to make her fans feel the same way. This is what Katy Perry had to say about her new tour: “It has room to grow. A typical tour is three months, but we’re going to the end of November. It’s nice to be able to expand and get out of the same same same. That’s the fun thing about success. I can take advantage of it. Now I can say, ‘I want a machine that simulates the whipped-cream boobs from the “California Gurls” video.’ I just want to keep things fresh, keep people on their toes and keep myself excited.” So Katy Perry’s fans have nothing but good things to look forward to from her upcoming tour. Maybe she’s even going to try and match Rihanna’s new stage perks.
Katy Perry hasn’t even started her North American tour yet but she’s already added a handful of new concert dates. The pop singer has added 8 more stops on her California Dreams tour in September. The new dates include San Antonio on September 7, New Orleans on September 8, Louisville on September 10, Grand Rapids on September 11, Columbus on September 13, Indianapolis on September 14, Omaha on September 16 and Tulsa on September 17. All 8 concert dates will be opened by the extremely talented Janelle Monae. Will any of you be catching Katy perform on any of these dates?
Only on the charts… in real life they probably have absolutely nothing to do with each other. It seems that Katy Perry has struck a pretty big success with her latest single, “E.T.”, which is actually her fourth single from her latest album to be a #1 song on the Billboard Hot 100. Coming up close behind, or so the speculation goes, is Lady GaGa with her new “Judas” single. Right now it’s only #30, but speculation seems to be that it will be number one in a few days. That means that Katy Perry and Lady GaGa are battling it out on the Billboard Hot 100, both viciously vying for the first place… theoretically.
Russell Brand admits that married life can be ‘tricky.’ The British comic married pop star Katy Perry last year and admits he is still adjusting to his new domestic situation. “When I fell in love I changed from a philandering rascal to this gentleman,” Brand said on America’s Today Show. “Katy is gorgeous. Before I met her I was skylarking around and this didn’t used to be a keychain,” added Brand fingering a bondage-style keychain he had given to host Meredith Vieira. “I love it. It is like having a good friend, and when you talk about something on Wednesday, on Thursday it is the same person you are telling not a new person who doesn’t know about Wednesday. “The challenges are that if you are married to someone you have to do what they ask you all the time. Women change the rules every day, you have to apologise a lot. It is tricky but I love it.”
British comedy actor Russell Brand got cuddly with Barbara Walters on US TV show The View as he discussed the tedium of married life. Amid rumours that his new marriage is on the rocks already, Brand snuggled close to the 81-year-old, put his arm around her and stroked her hand. The Forgetting Sarah Marshall star, 35, went on to admit that he is "scared" of his new bride, pop singer Katy Perry and said of his home life: "I’m like a butler now. I think it’s because I’m English she thinks I’m a butler." Ex-alcoholic and drug addict Brand continued: "My life used to be about chaos, glass, blood, madness but now it’s ‘go and get that fridge’," he said. "That’s after five months. How am I going to be a decade down the road?" he added. "I’ll be like a servant man, polishing windows and gardening." Brand has just been named Cosmopolitan magazine’s Fun and Fearless Man of the Year. But when host Barbara asked: “There must be something you are afraid of darling, what are you afraid of?” the curly-haired comic replied as he nudged closer to the TV host: “My wife, death and you sometimes.”
This is one big historic week on the Billboard charts. As of this week, the cast of “Glee” has placed an astounding 113 songs on the Billboard Hot 100 song chart. In the two and a half years that the hit TV show has been making amazing remakes, they have already bested Elvis Presley’s record of 108 for most charted songs by an act in the list’s 52 years. With the show seeming to not have any end coming soon, you can be sure that those numbers are still going to rise. As for this week’s charts, the show bested their own record by charting nine songs in a week, including Lea Michele’s rendition of Katy Perry’s “Firework”. Congratulations to “Glee”!

Katy Perry’s hit song “Firework” has reportedly sold over three million copies in paid downloads. That makes the 26-year old pop singer the first artist to ever have five songs hit that mark. Katy’s previous tracks to do so were “Hot n Cold” with 4,724,000, “California Gurls” with 4,560,000, “I Kissed a Girl” with 3,956,000 and “Teenage Dream” with 3,255,000. That’s a huge accomplishment especially if you consider how the music industry is today. Congratulations to Katy! I’m so proud of her for achieving such an amazing accomplishment. I’m sure she’s going to crank out some more hits and break more records.
Katy Perry – Part of Me – New Song Katy Perry just released today a new single called "Part of Me"

Katy Perry – Part of Me – Lyrics
Days like this I want to drive away. Pack my bags and watch you shout offence. Cus you chewed me up and spit me out, like I was poison in your mouth. You took my light, you drink me down, but that was then and this is now. Now look at me.
[Chorus] This is the part of me that you’re never gonna ever take away from me, no [x2] These sticks and stones fill your body and boots, But you’re not gonna break my soul. This is the part of me that you’re never gonna ever take away from me, no.
I just wanna throw my phone away. Find out who is really there for me. Cus you ripped me off, your love was cheap, It’s always tearing at the seams, I fell deep and you let me drown, Baby, that was then and this is now. Now look at me.
[Chorus] This is the part of me that you’re never gonna ever take away from me, no [x2]
These sticks and stones fill your body and boots, But you’re not gonna break my soul. This is the part of me that you’re never gonna ever take away from me, no.
And look at me, I’m sparkling. A firework, a dancing flame. You won’t ever put me out again. I’m going ohohoh. You can’t keep them down from me. I’ve never liked them anyway. In fact you can’t put out the flame Yeah, yeah. Except for me.
[Chorus] This is the part of me that you’re never gonna ever take away from me, no [x2] These sticks and stones fill your body and boots, But you’re not gonna break my soul. This is the part of me that you’re never gonna ever take away from me, no. [x3] These sticks and stones fill your body and boots, But you’re not gonna break my soul. This is the part of me that you’re never gonna ever take away from me, no.

Even though his recent stuff didn’t seem to sound that amazing, it looks like somebody up there sure like’s Eminmen’s music as he is currently at the top of the nominations list for this year’s Grammy with no less than ten nominations. Among the categories in which Eminem is nominated for Grammys are Album of the Year, Song of the Year, Record of the Year and Best Rap Album. He does owe two of those to Rihanna, though. Of course, in which of these categories he is actually going to get an award still remains to be seen, but it is a pretty impressive thing for Eminem. Maybe he hasn’t lost his touch after all.
Bruno Mars follows with seven, Jay-Z, Lady Gaga, and Lady Antebellum got six nods, John Legend and B.o.B got five, Drake, Rihanna, Cee Lo Green, Katy Perry, and Alex Da Kid get four nods each.

The singer’s father, Keith Hudson, is apparently very happy about the fact that his new son-in-law is Russell Brand and no other. This is what Katy Perry’s father had to say about Russell Brand: “I could not have wished for a better son-in-law in Russell. He makes my girl so happy. She’s so happy and he makes her light up. They’re going to be just fine. You couldn’t see two fucking happier people.” One must admire his enthusiasm, but the language doesn’t really befit a Christian pastor, now does it? Oh well, at least he’s happy that Katy Perry is happy. This is probably where the expression “one big happy family” comes into play.
Miley Cyrus was originally set to perform the Poison hit “Every Rose has Its Thorn” at the 2010 American Music Awards held at the Nokia Theatre LA Live in Los Angeles this past Sunday. However, the Disney singer/actress made a last minute switch and performed her song “Love and Forgiveness” off of her album “Can’t Be Tamed” instead. I wonder if it’s because of the reports that her parents are actually going through a divorce because her mom allegedly had an affair with Poison rock star Bret Michaels. It’s a big possibility. In any case, Miley did well on her performance. I’m glad to see that she managed to keep herself together through these tough times.

It seems that the two happy lovers who are to be married tomorrow in India really want to do all of this right considering that they are where they are. So among the other traditional Indian elements of their wedding, Katy Perry and Russell Brand also have two thrones prepared for when they get married. A source also had this to add about the upcoming happy day: “They are very much keeping to Indian tradition. There will be feasting and dancing. And Katy will be painted head-to-toe in henna tattoos.” It seems that Katy Perry really is into this Indian wedding tradition. What’s more fascinating is that her strongly Christian parents are ok with it. Just one more day to go…
Russell Brand and Katy Perry’s big day will be a standard affair, the British comedian says. Amid growing speculation the couple will tie the knot in Jaipur, India in coming days, the funny man has stressed theirs will be a “normal” wedding. “I want to make our wedding just about me and her loving each other and we’re getting married in front of our friends and family and keeping it normal,” Brand said. “I’m trying to preserve and make it a beautiful thing. Love between two people is the most spectacular and ordinary thing in the world.” But keeping things straightforward could be tough the 35-year-old admitted in an in interview with New York magazine. “It’s hard to make it normal because there’s this inflation of this toxic gas of celebrity billowing into it.”
Rihanna recently made some comments saying that Katy Perry, Lady Gaga and Ke$ha’s music were generic. The Barbadian R&B singer said “Katy is my friend! I would never diss her. I don’t see her as my rival. My only rival is myself, because I always wanna get better and better. I meant all the producers, that give singers like Katy, GaGa or Ke$ha always the same kind of pop-songs. They think, for sure one of them will take it and make it a single. They don’t realize that everyone of us has their own style. I love Katy’s music! That’s why I wanna make a duet with her. We’re already working on it.” Do you think she’s sincere or was she back peddling?
Rihanna recently revealed that she and friend Katy Perry are planning to collaborate on a song, either for the Barbadian R&B singer’s upcoming album ‘Loud!’ or for the pop star’s re-release of ‘Teenage Dream’. Rihanna explains “We just clicked. We have similar personalities and a similar sense of humour and from there she just seemed like a really down to earth person. In this industry you don’t meet a lot of people that are genuine, but Katy is such a free spirit, she has no edit button! We want to get in the studio and hopefully make something for this album, who knows – or maybe for her re-release. We want to do something together for sure.” This is interesting considering how Rihanna called Katy and a couple of others generic pop stars during a recent BBC Radio 1 interview.
Russell Brand says he was ready for a real relationship when he met his now fiance Katy Perry. “I remember the shagging went beyond being enjoyable. I was ready to meet someone, that’s the reality,” Brand admitted. “I was getting to a point where I was looking for that, and I’m really glad I found Katy,” the British comedian told The Sun. “Katy’s a very honest, loyal person, loving and decent. What’s mad about it is that it’s probably the most ordinary, normal relationship I’ve ever been involved in,” the Get Him To The Greek star enthused. The couple announced their engagement in January and are reportedly set to wed later this year. The 35-year-old says his love for the California Gurls’ singer has helped improved other parts of his life. “It means my relationship with other people and myself is a lot healthier. I spend time on my own all the time now.”
Katy Perry, posing in a bra and panties, is featured on the cover of the latest issue of Rolling Stone. In the accompanying interview, the 25-year old pop singer talked about her religious and strict upbringing, thinking that she’d gotten her shot at stardom at 17, and her thoughts on blasphemy among other things. She opens up about going on Twitter to bash Lady Gaga and talked about blasphemy saying “I wrote that tweet because of a combination of things. I am sensitive to Russell taking the Lord’s name in vain and to Lady Gaga putting a rosary in her mouth. I think when you put sex and spirituality in the same bottle and shake it up, bad things happen. Yes, I said I kissed a girl. But I didn’t say I kissed a girl while f-ing a crucifix.”
If all you has-beens are planning to make a comeback, you may want to learn a couple of things from Eminem. The rapper’s latest disc ‘Recovery’ is holding strong at the top spot on the Billboard 200 albums chart for the fourth straight week, selling 195,000 copies. Congratulations to Eminem! Hopefully, he doesn’t veer off the path that he’s on now and keeps on giving us great music. I have to admit that I missed the guy. I wonder if he managed to dethrone Katy Perry on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart and took the top honors there too.
Katy Perry recently had an interview with UK’s Star magazine. The pop singer talked a bit about sexuality and religion saying “It does not matter if it’s Madonna or my boyfriend doing it – if you put sexuality and religion in the same bottle and try to shake it up, it’s not cool.” Perhaps it’s this same opinion why Katy recently unleashed a tirade on Lady Gaga and her ‘Alejandro’ video where the princess of pop was seen swallowing a rosary. If you’ve been living under a rock your whole life and just recently came out from under it, Katy’s dad is actually a pastor. Go figure.
The MuchMusic Video Awards are definitely bringing in the big guns this year and I bet that they are going to kill it! Not only will Miley Cyrus be co-hosting the show but Katy Perry and Justin Bieber have been added as performers. While I could care less about the Disney teen queen, I cannot wait to see what the ?I Kissed a Girl? singer and the teen pop heartthrob will do to rock the house. The awards will be held on June 20th in Toronto. I?ve already marked my calendar so I don?t forget. Will you be tuning in?
Katy Perry and super producer Dr. Luke are honored at the 2010 ASCAP Pop Music Awards which was held at the Renaissance Hollywood Hotel last Wednesday. Lukasz ?Dr. Luke? Gottwald was named songwriter of the year for writing 5 of the most performed songs of the past year ? Britney Spears? ?Circus?, Katy Perry?s ?Hot N Cold?, Kelly Clarkson?s ?My Life Would Suck Without You?, Miley Cyrus? ?Party in the USA? and Flo Rida?s ?Right Round?. Katy also picked up awards for her songs ?Hot N Cold? and ?Waking Up in Vegas?. Jason Mraz?s ?I?m Yours? was named song of the year. Congratulations to all the winners!
