A lot of Broadway aficionados and Green Day fans will have the time of their lives come January 1. The rock band’s lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong was originally slated to take over the role of St. Jimmy in “American Idiot” for eight performances but the rock star will now return for the role for 50 performances in 2011. Billie Joe will be on stage on January 1 to January 9, January 18 to January 30 and February 10 to February 27. If his September performance is any indication of how the show is going to be, I think it’s going to be a great run for the Green Day singer.
Green Day?s ?American Idiot? musical opened this past Tuesday to crappy reviews. One reporter said ?I wish I could tell you I loved ?American Idiot?. It looks good; it sounds good; it features a talented and hardworking cast. But I can’t. It’s fun. But it’s also, amid all the booming rock, a little dull.? Theatre critics are in love with the show?s soundtrack but most find that the musical lacks a good story. Another critic wrote ?Thanks for the music, Green Day. But, jeez, couldn’t you have spared a story? And a couple of characters who aren’t cliched stick-figures? Because that’s what a Broadway musical needs to make it more than just a music video or a concert. Unfortunately American Idiot comes up short on both those counts.?
Lollapalooza, just released the line up for their shows and it is amazing! First day performers include Soundgarden, Green Day, Lady Gaga, Arcade Fire, Strokes, Phoenix, Social Distortion, MGMT, Jimmy Cliff, Hot Chip, the Black Keys, National, Spoon, Devo, Cypress Hill, Cut Copy, New Pornographers, Erykah Badu, Slightly Stoopid, Grizzly Bear, Gogol Bordello, Chromeo, Wolfmother, Yeasayer, X Japan, MUTEMATH, Metric, Dirty Projectors, AFI, Mavis Staples, Matt & Kim, xx, Drive-By Truckers, Blues Traveler. Second day features Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, Temper Trap, Jamie Lidell, Frightened Rabbit, F Buttons, Deer Tick, Blitzen Trapper, Stars, Raphael Saadiq, the Cribs, Minus the Bear, Switchfoot, Walkmen, Mumford & Sons, Wild Beasts, Rogue Wave, Los Amigos Invisibles, Big Pink, Dodos, Hockey, Cymbals Eat Guitars, B.o.B, Dawes, Warpaint, Antlers, the Soft Pack, Rebelution, Balkan Beat Box. And finally, the third day sees Wavves, American Bang, Ike Reilly Assassination, Company of Thieves, Nneka, Harlem, Constellations, Miniature Tigers, Mimicking Birds, Kissaway Trail, HEALTH, Javelin, the Morning Benders, Foxy Shazam, Violent Soho, Royal Bangs, NEON TREES, Freelance Whales, Semi Precious Weapons, Dan Black, The Band of Heathens, Dragonette, My Dear Disco, Shawn Fisher, Neon Hitch, Skybox, The Ettes, Jukebox the Ghost, These United States, MyNameIsJohnMichael.
While others can?t stand being famous and successful, Green Day sure have no problem with it. In fact, they seem to love it so much that they?re actually getting ready for a new album even though their last was released less than a year ago. This is what Billie-Joe Armstrong said about it: “We did some demos in Berlin, some in Stockholm, some just outside of Glasgow and some in Amsterdam,” said Armstrong. “We wanted to get down in some early form.” So, Green Day are using Europe to probe the field for their next album? they?ve become quite the little marketing geniuses, haven?t they? Maybe it will stick this time around too.
Tokio Hotel took home the “Best Group” award at the MTV European Music Awards in Berlin beating out the likes of Black Eyed Peas, Jonas Brothers, Kings of Leon and Green Day. Bill, Tom, Georg and Gustav also rocked an epic performance of their international single “World Behind My Wall” complete with insane pyro and explosive stage effects. The track appears on the recently released Humanoid album.
MTV has revealed its nominees for the 2009 Note that the nominees for the category of Best European Act will be announced on October 12th. Lady GaGa and Kings of Leon have the most nominations with 5 each

The past year has treated many artists in the music industry very well but there are also others that didn?t have as much luck with their new releases. The biggest albums of the year sales-wise are Taylor Swift?s ?Fearless? which sold 3.7 million, Michael Jackson?s ?#1?s? which sold 3 million, Beyonce?s ?I Am? Sasha Fierce? which sold 2.4 million and the soundtrack for the movie ?Twilight? which sold 2.2 million. However, not everyone can do well. The Jonas Brothers fever seems to be dying down because the boys only managed to sell 520,000 copies of their new album. Disney starlet Demi Lovato also bombed selling only 240,000 copies of her album. Jordin Sparks, Green Day and Kelly Clarkson are also on the list of so-called failures.
Green Day has just premiered the video for their new single, “21 Guns,” exclusively on MySpace Music. The video was helmed by noted director Marc Webb, who has lensed clips for such artists as My Chemical Romance, Weezer, and All-American Rejects, and is making his feature film directorial debut in July with (500) Days of Summer.
“21 Guns” is the second single from the band’s latest album 21st Century Breakdown, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Top 200 chart, as well as on the Rock, Active Rock, and Alternative charts, fueled by the Alternative radio No. 1 single “Know Your Enemy.” 21st Century Breakdown, which Rolling Stone has called “a rock opera in which the rock always comes first,” also topped the charts in 24 countries including the UK, Canada, and Japan.
Over the past month, Green Day has continued to work with MySpace Music for the promotion of 21st Century Breakdown. During the week of the album’s release, they played an exclusive concert in New York City which was filmed for the site’s premiere online concert program, The List. The performance can now be seen on The List’s official MySpace profile.
This year’s show will take place at the Gibson Amphitheatre in Los Angeles on Sunday, August 9th, and air the next day, Monday, August 10th, on FOX at 8 p.m. ET/PT. Fans can vote for Green Day at http://www.teenchoiceawards.com/.
Green Day, which is singer-guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong, bassist Mike Dirnt, and drummer Tre Cool, are preparing to launch their first proper tour of the United States and Canada in more than three years.
