The Rock in Rio festival has returned to Brazil after 10 years and to kick things off in a big way, organizers packed the first day with top international stars. One of the artists who was tasked to set the tone for the rest of the festival for the100,000 people gathered at Rio de Janeiro was Katy Perry. The pop singer performed an energetic set that revised the hit singles from her two studio albums including “California Gurls”, “Firework”, “Thinking of You”, “Hot N Cold” and more. Katy live in concert is always a sight to see and she didn’t disappoint at the music festival.

Princess of Pop Lady Gaga performed her latest single “Judas” on French TV show “Le Grand Journal” on the night of May 11th (at least where the singer currently is). The “Canal Plus” hit show is being shot this week at a special stage right on the Croisette (boulevard) near the beach in the city of Cannes where the famous film festival happens to be celebrating its opening night on the same day as well. Lady Gaga’s performance was nothing short of epic. The whole landscape and stage just added another layer to it that made it all the more beautiful.

22-year old Charles Haddon of the band Ou Est Le Swimming Pool committed suicide last Friday night after he jumped off a telecommunications mast and into a parking lot at the Pukkelpop festival in Belgium. This comes in the same week that a man jumped to his death at a Swell Season concert. This is unbelievably awful and tragic. I cant even begin to think about the trauma that the people who had to witness the event may have. My thoughts go out to the family and friends of Charles and to the people who saw the tragedy. May Charles rest in peace.
Tila Tequila was recently a casualty at the Gathering of the Juggalos last weekend when audience members threw pretty much everything, including feces, at the reality TV star. She wasnt the only victim though as Method Man was also subjected to the attack. According to sources, he and fellow rapper Redman were performing at the festival on Sunday night when someone in the audience threw what appeared to be a full beer can at Method Mans face, resulting in a pretty nasty wound right by the eye. Redman threw expletives at the crowd before telling Method Man to get the cut looked at, however, he refused to stop the show and continued on performing.
Snoop Doggs reps are saying that the rapper was shocked after he found out that he was dropped from the Parkpop festival in The Netherlands. The festivals organizers said that they were looking for an act that would match the open and friendly character of the concert and apparently, Snoop didnt cut it. The rappers camp is saying that he has played these gigs many times before and theyre shocked that he got banned. His manager wrote in a statement Snoop Dogg is astonished by the decision of the Mayor of The Hague, a town in the south of Holland, to not allow him to perform at the free festival, Parkpop. Theres been much speculation that, given the enormous response by Snoops fans to the free festival, the local authorities would not be able to provide sufficient security. Mojo, the largest concert promoter in Holland says, ‘We have never had any issues with Snoop, who has played magnificent shows at many of the festivals we promote such as Lowlands, North Sea Jazz and at several other promoted shows by Mojo.’ Snoop is a mainstay at music festivals all over the world and has performed at all of these without incident.
Taylor Swift rocked out a couple of her hits after signing autographs for over half a day of a meet and greet this past Sunday as part of the CMA Music Festival in Nashville, Tennessee. The 20-year old country singer actually went over the announced 13-hour signing time as Taylor was with fans for 14 and a half hours! She later went on her Twitter posting a picture of her arm and saying They brought me these bracelets and wrote on my arm as the hours passed. 14.5 hour signing. Today was love. 10,000 fans showed up and she met with almost 2000 of them!
Kate Hudson was recently spotted with Matt Bellamy, the lead singer of the band Muse, in New York last week after reportedly dating for over a month. Its only been a few months since the actress and A-Rod broke up but sources say that this new relationship is getting serious and that the couple plans to make the relationship public at Britains Glastonbury festival later this month. A source said Matt has been over to America to hang out with Kate. Things are going so well, Kate was planning to fly out to the UK to hang out with Matt at the festival. She wants to watch the band from the side of the stage and meet his pals. It makes me wonder if Kate had anything to do with Matts split with fianc Gaia Polloni.
Taylor Swift will host a 13-hour meet and greet with her fans at the CMA Music Festival this year on June 13. The event begins at 8AM at Nashvilles Bridgestone Arena and end at 9PM. The country singer will also have an acoustic performance around 2PM that afternoon. Mind you, the event is also free and open to the public. Taylor said My favorite thing about CMA Music Fest has always been getting to spend time with the fans. So this year I wanted to figure out a way to meet as many of them as possible. Thirteen is my lucky number and the 13th is during Music Fest, so I think spending 13 hours with my fans is going to be amazing!
The line up for the annual Wango Tango festival concert event has been announced. Ke$ha, Adam Lambert, Usher, Justin Bieber, Ludacris, Akon, Iyaz and BoB will be taking the stage at Staples Center in Los Angeles. That?s one heck of a line up and should prove to be a great treat for anyone who?s going to watch. KIIS FM?s Ryan Seacrest will host the show, along with the rest of the KIIS FM Air staff. The promoters of the Glastonbury this summer are looking to pick up Snoop Dogg to be a part of the festival. If the rapper does decide to sign on, he?ll be joining a bill of some other big stars, including the likes of U2. I guess it was just in time for the folks at Glastonbury that Snoop is finally allowed entry into the UK. I wonder what made them decide that they wanted Snoop on board for the music fest. Perennial douche bag Pete Doherty has a gift for coming up with so many creative ways to be a dipshit. The rock singer was quite the surprise guest while performing solo at the on3 music festival in Munich this past weekend. Just when we hadn?t heard of anything bad from him in a while, the guy decided to sing a Nazi anthem in Germany. Pete sang the first verse of ?Deutschlandlied?, a part of the song that has not been sung since WWII. It translates to ?Germany, Germany above anything, above everything in the world.? The crowd began to boo but he sang five more songs before organizers escorted him off stage.
The rapper has recently confirmed that he will be performing at the famous British musical event along with his prot?g? Mr. Hudson. Kanye West said: We’ve toured together a lot so it’s a real possibility. I do agree with the idea you have to play guitar or some other kind of instrument at a festival. Hudson is a truly talented singer and performer who plays guitar and piano. You can take his record all the way to the festivals.” It?s just utterly amazing! The great genius has finally mellowed down and it seems he is willing to accept those around him as equally great talents. Maybe this is all the result of that South Park episode a while back? Who would?ve thought Kanye West could change so much in so little a time.
Amy Winehouse was taken to the hospital in St. Lucia this past weekend. The singer?s spokesperson said that the reason behind the hospitalization was dehydration. Wino?s publicist said ?She fainted at home (in St Lucia) and they took her in for observation, mainly to do with her medication to check everything was OK. They told her that she was dehydrated and needed to drink more water.? Her publicist further claims that Wino was running around with a group of children before she passed out. She?s expected to perform at a jazz festival in St. Lucia later this week so I hope she feels better.
The complete list of artists participating in the Lollapalooza Music Festival has just been revealed. The headliners include Depeche Mode, Tool, the Killers, Jane?s Addiction, Beastie Boys and Kings of Leon. Other notable performers include Lou Reed, Ben Harper, Thievery Corporation, Snoop Dogg, Rise Against, Andrew Bird, TV on the Radio, Vampire Weekend, the Decembrists, Neko Case, Sound Tribe Sector 9, Animal Collective, Band of Horses, Of Montreal, Arctic Monkeys, Coheed and Cambria, Ben Folds and Fleet Foxes. There are 59 other artists included in the list and that?s not even counting the DJ sets yet which come up to 21. That?s a total of 104 music acts!
The lineup of participating acts for the 2009 SXSW Music Festival was recently revealed. There are hundreds of artists that will take part in the festival with hundreds more that aren?t even official participants but will be performing at one of the countless unsanctioned showcases during the mid-March festival in Austin. Katy Perry, Robyn, NERD, Eric Hutchinson, Chester French, Ultraviolet Sound and DJ Larry Tee were just some of the acts featured last year. I?m sure some of the biggest and most recognizable artists will be there this year.
