New Video from JLS – Take a Chance on Me

Ξ October 26th, 2011 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Music, News, Video |

JLS recently premiered the music video for their song “Take a Chance on Me”. The mid-tempo pop track serves as the second single from the British boy band’s upcoming album “Jukebox”, which is due out on November 14 but will be available for pre-order on November 6th. In my opinion, the song is really mediocre and really does nothing to further their career. Call it secondary syndrome or whatever but I actually had high hopes for these guys. As for the video, the boys promote the sites of London, including the Thames path walk, Tower Bridge and the illuminated London eye. It makes me wonder if the England Tourist Board financed this video.

English indie rock band Florence + The Machine have recently premiered the music video for their latest single “Shake It Out” via VEVO. The beautiful Paul Epworth-produced art-rock track serves as the lead single from the band’s upcoming album “Ceremonials”, which will be released on October 28th. As for the video, it’s stunning. Lead singer Florence Welch is absolutely captivating in it. I actually keep pausing every time that the camera zooms in on just her, never mind the chaos of everything else. It’s a very beautiful video for a very beautiful song. What did you think about the new video?

Aqua is back on the scene but the legendary Danish-Norwegian pop band is toning things down a bit in the new single release from their new album “Megalomania”, which will hit stores in select markets across Europe on October 3rd. They had some fun with the first single “How R U Doing?” but the Lene Nystrom-led band has decided to slow the tempo down a little for the follow up “Playmate to Jesus”. Aqua recently premiered the music video for the song on their YouTube page. Lene looks stunning in the visual but I’m not entirely sure about the goth vibe. And thanks to this video, I just noticed that the band actually sampled some of Kanye West.

Kimberley Walsh Confirms Girls Aloud Reunion

Although it’s not definite yet, I’m encouraged to find out that Girls Aloud singer Kimberley Walsh recently revealed in an interview that the British pop band will in fact reunite in 2012 for a new 10-year anniversary tour. Kimberley said “I’d like to do more acting, but, to be honest, being in the band has surpassed everything I ever dreamed of doing with my life. The girls will have been together for ten years next year and that’s definitely going to be celebrated with a tour. I can’t say any more until next year – but I’m really looking forward to it.” If that isn’t salivating information, I don’t know what is.

X Factor-formed boy band One Direction have chosen the track “What Makes You Beautiful” as their official debut single. The song was produced by Savan Kotecha, and written by Carl Falk and Rami Yacoub, who worked with Britney Spears on her hit “Baby One More Time”. I like this song. It’s catchy and has a huge potential to be a hit in the UK. I’m so glad that One Direction decided to go for a pop/rock sound. I think it suits them well and it will be something refreshing in nowadays’ music scene. “What Makes You Beautiful” is set to be released on September 12th.

Cobra Starship recently premiered the music video for their song “You Make Me Feel” via MTV. The synth pop band’s very catchy, albeit sounding like a Calvin Harris rip off, single is the lead track from their upcoming album “Night Shades”. The track also features upcoming rapper Sabi. In any case, I like the song. The beat is hot and Sabi’s hook is blazing. As for the video, I think it’s just meh. It’s still that basic club and party concept where lead singer Gabe Saporta has fun in a photo booth while Sabi works it out on the pole.

For the second year in a row, U2 has been named the highest paid band by Forbes. Every year, the magazine releases a list of the 25 biggest-earning musicians. Acts that have gone on tour consistently throughout the year tend to make the top spots on the list and the rock band was no exception. U2 pulled it $195 million after bringing their 360 tour to a close, with the tour itself banking over $700 million. Coming in second was Bon Jovi, who made $125 million. Elton John came in third with $100 million. Lady Gaga earned $90 million and Michael Buble earned $70 million, to round out the top 5.

UK boy band The Wanted has recently premiered the music video for their song “Glad You Came”. The track is the second single to come off of their upcoming new studio album, which is out later this year. The very catchy single was produced by Steve Mac, Wayne Hector and Ed Drewett. It’s a great pop record with an infectious beat, dancehall influence and rhyming verses. As for the music video, it sees the members of the group partying it up on the paradise island that is Ibiza. It’s a good visual and fits the song’s summery vibe really well.

Gym Class Heroes has a new song out called “Stereo Hearts”. The Benny Blanco-produced and Adam Levine-assisted track is the lead single from the hip hop band’s much-anticipated fifth album “The Papercut Chronicles II”, which is due in stores this year. The song has an uplifting and summery vibe, and is overall a good track. The lyrics are really cool with loads of metaphors that are very consistent throughout the entire song. I actually like the verses more than the chorus – it’s all about Travie McCoy! If you want to grab hold of this single, it will be released on iTunes on June 14th.

Gym Class Heroes – Stereo Hearts – Lyrics
[Adam Levine]

My heart’s a stereo
It beats for your, so listen close
Hear my thoughts in every note

Make me your radio
Turn me up when you feel low
This melody was meant for you
Just sing along to my stereo

[Travie McCoy]

If I was just another dusty record on the shelve
Will you blow me off and play me like everybody else
If I ask you to scratch my back, could you manage that
Like it read well, check it Travie, I can handle that
Furthermore, I apologize for any skipping tracks
This the last girl that play me left a couple cracks
I used to used to used to used to, now I’m over that
Cause holding grudges over love is ancient artifacts

If I could only find a note to make you understand
I sing a song and the image grab me by the hands
Keep myself inside your head, like your favorite tune
And know my heart is a stereo that only plays for you

[Chorus]

My heart’s a stereo
It beats for your, so listen close
Hear my thoughts in every note

Make me your radio
Turn me up when you feel low
This melody was meant for you
Just sing along to my stereo

Oh oh oh oh To my stereo
Oh oh oh oh So sing along to my stereo

[Travie McCoy]

If I wasn’t old school, fifty pound boombox
Would you hold me on your shoulder, wherever you walk
Would you turn my volume up before of the cops
And crank it higher everytime they told you to stop
And all I ask is that you don’t get mad at me
When you have to purchase mad D batteries
Appreciate every mixtape your friends make
You never know we come and go like we’re on the interstate

I think finally found a note to make you understand
If you can hear it, sing along and take me by the hands
Keep myself inside your head, like your favorite tune
And know my heart is a stereo that only plays for you

[Chorus]

My heart’s a stereo
It beats for your, so listen close
Hear my thoughts in every note

Make me your radio
Turn me up when you feel low
This melody was meant for you
Just sing along to my stereo

Oh oh oh oh To my stereo
Oh oh oh oh So sing along to my stereo

[Bridge]

I only pray you never leave me behind
Because good music can be so hard to find
I take your hand and pull it closer to mine
Thought love was dead, but now you’re changing my mind

[Chorus]

My heart’s a stereo
It beats for your, so listen close
Hear my thoughts in every note

Make me your radio
Turn me up when you feel low
This melody was meant for you
Just sing along to my stereo

Oh oh oh oh To my stereo
Oh oh oh oh So sing along to my stereo

New Video from Kings of Leon – Back Down South

American rock band Kings of Leon recently premiered the official music video for their song “Back Down South”. The track is the third single to be lifted off of their latest album “Come Around Sundown”. The song is so relaxing and there’s just something about it that makes me want to smile. As for the Casey McGrath-directed video, it perfectly captured the song’s essence as a great homage to the south lifestyle. It also shows footage from the band performing a live concert outdoors in a rural setting in front of a group of a group of lucky members of the Kings of Leon fan club.

Diddy-Dirty Money has recently premiered the music video for their millionth single off their “Last Train to Paris” album. The latest, and hopefully the last, single the hip hop band has decided to release is the Usher-assisted and Polow Da Don-produced “Looking for Love”. As for the video, it was actually shot way back in November 2010 and has remained hidden in the vault until now. It’s a sleek visual but I doubt the single will do anything to help the album any. “Coming Home” was the beginning and end of this Diddy album. He should just focus on making new music instead of releasing more singles from “Last Train to Paris”.

The hip hop band performed a medley of their songs “Just Can’t Get Enough” and “I Gotta Feeling”. Fergie, will.i.am, apl.de.ap and Taboo always put on a good show but I can’t help but feel like they need to come up with some new music already. I’m just already sick of having to hear “I Gotta Feeling”. That’s just me though. Anyways, they had a great performance on the show. It definitely kept the energy up.

The Black Eyed Peas performed their latest single “Don’t Stop the Party” on the French version of X Factor earlier this week. The performance was very entertaining to watch but I think it’s really ridiculous how much their vocals are edited. Besides showing some love to the hip hop band’s French fans and supporting the latest single from their album “The Beginning”, the Black Eyed Peas also visited channel M6’s hit talent show to get the hype going for their upcoming stadium tour in France. They will play on June 22, 24 and 25 at the Stade de France in Paris.

Paul McCartney to Release Pop Standards Album

Ξ May 17th, 2011 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Beatles, New Album, Paul McCartney |

Paul McCartney has just finished recording an album that’s devoted to covers of pop standards from the pre-rock years. The iconic singer worked with an orchestra to record nearly a dozen songs, including some with Diana Krall and her band. Paul explains “It’s my dad’s style of music. I’ve wanted to do that kind of thing forever, since the Beatle days. But then Rod [Stewart] went mad on it. I thought, ‘I have to wait so it doesn’t look like I’m trying to do a Rod.’ They’re just songs I admire, I’m trying to steer away from the obvious ones. It’s get-home-from-work music. You put it on and get a glass of wine.” Paul also plans on going the opposite direction and will begin work on another album with heavier rock, with hopes of working with Dave Grohl. He said “It sounds quite wacky, but it keeps it fresh. I love that – you get a crazy idea and go with it. You never know – I may run into a garage to make this other album. But it won’t be in Dave’s garage.” I can’t wait to hear this.

Steven Tyler Single Denied by Aerosmith

Steven Tyler recently released his first solo track off of his upcoming album. However, the rock singer admitted that the song, “(It) Feels So Good”, was originally penned for his band Aerosmith. The rest of the crew turned it down though. Steven reveals that he’s had the song written for a few years and when he brought it to his band mates, they just didn’t like it so it got tossed. Steven explained “I wrote the song at the Sunset Marquis hotel in Los Angeles a few years ago. I swear it’s going to be a hit. I can hear it coming out of people’s cars this summer. I’m a fool for melody, man. I’ve got to have melody. I miss it, and there it is.” There’s a reason the rest of Aerosmith decided to toss it but it’s Steven’s solo career so he can take whatever risk he wants to take.

Steven Tyler – (It) Feels So Good – Lyrics
Something cool went down
As I was walking with a friend of mine
And I, I still remember,
How she was smelling like the summer time

And oh, how it changed my mind
Changed everything, about that, come on girl

It feels so good, loving you
Yeah, it’s so good, the way you do the do
It feels so good, and I need oxygen,
Little bit of heaven doin’ 24-7 again
Yeah, again and again

Like I was sayin’
My little cupid was real super freak
By the time that I came down
I’ll get locked up in a room for a week

And oh, how she changed my mind
Changed everything about this crazy world

It feels so good, loving you
Yeah, it’s so good, the way you do the do
It feels so good, yeah and by the way
Little bit of heaven 24-7 times a day

A long hair
A double dare
And I swear
A Little bit will do you some good
Say where
I’m goin’ there
And I swear
Can’t get enough of you, oh yeah yah

Ma bonsoir
Excuse moi
Ya oh la la
Is gonna doing to me good
Yeah, yeah, yeah

Oh yeah, it feels so good, loving you (loving you)
Yeah, it’s so good, the way you do the do
It feels so good, yeah I need oxygen
Little bit of heaven doin’ 24-7 ah

Oh yeah, it feels so good, loving you (loving you)
Yeah, it’s so good, the way you do the do
It feels so good, lovin’ you (loving you)
It feels so good, making love to you
Uh yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah eah

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah…

Most of the performers were on top of their game for this past Wednesday’s performance night on American Idol while others failed to impress. With three weeks left to go in the competition, there’s just no excuse to just coast along. Before announcing who was at the bottom, Ryan Seacrest announced that there were 60 million votes cast. After getting reviews from Jimmy Iovine, we saw Lauren Alaina standing with Jacob Lusk, and James Durbin standing with Haley Reinhart. Scotty was asked to choose to stand with the duo who he thought was safe. When he refused, Ryan led him over to Haley and James and announced that they were safe. And as I had hoped, we said goodbye to Jacob last night. Did you agree with the results?

Metallica Working with Rick Rubin Again

Metallica fans have a lot to be happy about. Not only is the heavy metal band about to start working on their 10th studio album, but producer Rick Rubin, who was behind their last album “Death Magnetic”, is returning to produce. Bassist Robert Trujillo expressed his excitement on getting back into the studio with Rick in a recent radio interview, saying “Yeah. I love working with Rick. Rick, to me, he’s sort of a Zen guru spirit that Metallica needs right now. Not to say that we need it, because we’re getting along incredibly well, we’re really excited to write some new music. There’s no shortage of riffage in Metallica world right now. And I think it’s only gonna get better.” Are you excited for some new Metallica music?

Rapper will.i.am explains “For a while, [we did] My Humps and then it got to the point where we didn’t want to play My Humps no more. You know, ’cause, ‘I met a girl down at the disco,’ I just didn’t want to say that no more, lyrically.” Or maybe the song just gets way too annoying after a while. I know that’s how I feel about it so I can’t blame them for wanting to retire it.

Foo Fighters Dethrone Adele in the UK

After achieving the longest consecutive run at the top spot for a studio album by a solo artist in British chart history for her album “21”, Adele’s reign at the number 1 spot on the UK album chart has finally been taken over by the Foo Fighters’ new album “Wasting Light”. Despite losing the top spot, the British singer is still at #2 with “21” and is also at #3 with her debut album “19”. I’m impressed with her success in the US and UK, and I won’t be surprised if she manages to make her way in front of the Foo Fighters again. The rock band may have a solid album but there’s no denying Adele her throne.

Blink 182 has announced on their website earlier this week that they have re-scheduled their European summer tour for next summer in order to finish the album. Through a statement on their website, the rock back wrote “It is with heavy hearts that we have to announce our planned 2011 European summer tour has been rescheduled. When we booked the tour last year, we were confident that we would have the new album out before the summer. Turns out we were mistaken as the album is taking longer than we thought and won’t be out till later this year. Rather than do another ‘greatest hits tour’ which you all saw last summer. The three of us are working very hard to do what we set out to do when we re-formed, get a new Blink-182 album recorded.” While it’s sad for their European fans, I think they made a smart move and hopefully, their new music would be worth the wait.

The American rock band took the stage to perform some tracks from their album “Wasting Light”, namely the lead single “Rope” and “Walk”. It was a solid effort and it looks like their appearance on SNL has paid off as their album has since gotten back in the top 10 on the US iTunes. I’ve always been a fan of the Foo Fighters so I’m really happy that they’re garnering success for their current record.

Mumford & Sons’ popularity is on a steady rise and I have no doubt that Taylor’s cover of their song will give them even more of a push. Whether you’re a fan of hers or not, you can’t deny that she did the song more than just a little bit of justice.

Arcade Fire Surprise Performance in Haiti

Ξ April 4th, 2011 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Arcade Fire, Rolling Stones |

Arcade Fire performed an intimate surprise show for fans in Port-Au-Prince, Haiti last week, on top of raising over $1 million for post-earthquake relief for the devastated country. Sources claim that the band, whose singer Regine Chassagne is the daughter of Haitian immigrants, performed their own hits “Keep the Car Running”, “Sprawll II (Mountains Beyond Mountains), and “Haiti”, as well as covers of Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Rolling Stones and Cyndi Lauper music. That was so amazing. I’m sure it meant a lot to not only their fans but the entire community. I’m extremely proud of Arcade Fire’s efforts. Everyone should be.

New Video from Travis Barker – Can a Drummer Get Some

Ξ March 30th, 2011 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Music Video, Travis Barker |

Blink 182 drummer Travis Barker has recently premiered the music video for his song “Can a Drummer Get Some”. The track is the lead single from the rock star’s debut solo album which was released earlier this Month. The song features verses by rappers The Game, Rick Ross and Lil Wayne, while Swizz Beatz is in charge of the hook. The song isn’t half bad but I’m afraid it’s going to flop. I say Travis should just forget about this solo project and focus on the upcoming Blink 182 album and tour. He’s a great musician but he’s not as noteworthy as he is with the band.

New Video from My Chemical Romance – Planetary (Go)

Ξ March 24th, 2011 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Music, Music Video, My Chemical Romance, Video Streams |

My Chemical Romance have chosen the amazing “Planetary (Go!)” as the third official single to come off of their latest album “Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys”. The new single will be released in the UK and US next week. For that reason, the rock band has recently premiered the music video for the song. It’s disappointing though. I love the song like no other but I hate when live performances are turned into music videos. Compared to their previous videos from this era, this new one just leaves much to be desired. But I still hope that the new single would get a high spot on the charts.

Dave Grohl Slams Glee

Ξ March 21st, 2011 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Foo Fighters, Glee |

Foo Fighters lead singer Dave Grohl has decided to jump on the anti-“Glee” train while promoting his band’s new documentary “Back and Forth” at the SXSW festival. The rock star said “It’s every band’s right, you shouldn’t have to do fucking Glee. And then the guy who created Glee is so offended that we’re not, like, begging to be on his fucking show… fuck that guy for thinking anybody and everybody should want to do Glee. I watched 10 minutes. It’s not my thing. The Glee guy, what a fucking jerk. Slash was the first one. He wanted to do Guns ‘n’ Roses and Slash is like, ‘I hate fucking musicals. It’s worse than Grease.’ Then [Murphy's] like, ‘Well, of course he’d say that, he’s a washed up old’ rock star, that’s what they fucking do.’ And then Kings of Leon say, ‘No, we don’t want to be on your show.’ And then he’s like, ‘Snotty little assholes…’ And it’s just like, Dude, maybe not everyone loves Glee. Me included.” To each their own I guess. It’s their music after all.

New Video from The Wanted – Gold Forever

Ξ March 8th, 2011 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Music, Music Bands, Video |

British pop band The Wanted has recently premiered the music video for their song “Gold Forever”. The track is their latest single and the official 2011 Comic Relief song – a charity single in the UK. The song is a feel good tune with mid tempo ballad-like verses and a cheerful synth-minded chorus. As for the video, it’s good. It’s nothing ground breaking or utterly original but it goes quite well with the song’s spirit. The guys seemed to have a great time shooting the video so that should be enough reason to check it out. What do you guys think?
