Fresh after last week’s finale, The Voice host Carson Daly spoke to reporters about the changes that the reality TV singing competition will be making for season two. Carson said “[We're] expanding, but not too much. With success in network TV, often they overdo it once they’ve got a hit. They tend to just sort of whore it out, if you will. We’re going to have longer blind auditions. We only had 2 episodes of it this season and all of a sudden we were into the battle rounds. I think there will be at least four weeks of our blind auditions so that people can really sink their teeth into that discovery process.” As for the coaches, Christina Aguilera, Adam Levine, Cee-Lo Green and Blake Shelton are all coming back for season two.
The soulful singer from Stratford, Javier Colon, was recently crowned as the first ever champion of the NBC hit reality TV talent show The Voice. Javier’s first official single is the song he performed on the finale performance night, “Stitch by Stitch”. The song was especially written for him by Dave Hodges, Dave Bassett and Lindy Robbins, and produced by Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins. I have high hopes for Javier’s music career and with the industry being high on R&B singers as of late, there’s a really good chance for him to gain success. Again, congratulations to Javier and good luck!

The top 4 singers on NBC’s The Voice weren’t the only ones who had double duty last night as the coaches hit the stage together to perform Queen and David Bowie’s hit collaboration “Under Pressure”. Christina Aguilera, Adam Levine, Blake Shelton and Cee-Lo Green did a medley of the rock band’s hits earlier this month so I guess they’ve stuck to a theme. If it wasn’t for Adam and Blake though, this performance could have just been cut from the show and I wouldn’t have lost anything. I am really starting to dislike Christina’s need for diva vocal runs and Cee-Lo is just all over the place.
Here are all performances from the last night the Voice show:
The Voice 2011 (Finals) – Opening Number – Blake, Cee Lo, Christina & Adam
The Voice 2011 (Finals) – Vicci & Cee Lo Duet – Love Is A Battlefield
The Voice 2011 (Finals) – Dia & Blake Duet – I Won’t Back Down
The Voice 2011 (Finals) – Beverly & Christina Duet – Beautiful
The Voice 2011 (Finals) – Javier & Adam Duet – Man In The Mirror
The Voice 2011 (Finals) – Javier Colon – Stitch by Stitch
The Voice 2011 (Finals) – Vicci Martinez – Afraid To Sleep
The Voice 2011 (Finals) – Dia Frampton – Inventing Shadows
The Voice 2011 (Finals) – Beverly McClellan – Love Sick
Adam Levine recently spoke with Rolling Stone magazine about his relationship with fellow The Voice coach Christina Aguilera. When asked whether they have hooked up in the past, the Maroon 5 lead singer said “I just met her a couple of days before we started shooting! I don’t know where it comes from. We just bicker like brother and sister, and part of it is fabricated by the television gods. But she’s great. I respect the sh– out of her. She’s going through a tough time, and God bless her. This show is great for her. But if she busts my balls, I’ll bust hers.”
Now that you know who moved on and who got cut from The Voice last night, it’s now time to check out the performances from Team Adam Levine and Team Cee-Lo Green. Cee-Lo’s team saw Tori and Taylor sing “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy”, Vicci Martinez sing “Jolene”, Nakia sing “Sex on Fire” and Curtis Grimes sing “Addicted to Love”. They also put on a very 70s inspired performance of “Everyday People”. It wasn’t on par with last week’s performance by Team Christina Aguilera but they definitely won laughs for their attires. As for Team Adam, Casey Weston sang “Black Horse and the Cherry Tree”, Devon Barley sang “Stop and Stare”, Jeff Jenkins sang “Jesus Take the Wheel” and Javier Colon sang “Angel”. The team also performed “With a Little Help from My Friends”. It was definitely better than Cee-Lo’s team, with Javier stealing the spotlight. Who do you think is going home next week?

It seems that the contest has a pretty special treat planned for all of its viewers for when they will show their very first live episode. The judges of the show will be kicking it all off with a medley of Queen songs, starting with “Bohemian Rhapsody” and going through “We Will Rock You” and “We Are the Champions”. This is what the show’s judges said on the matter in a joint statement: “Kicking off the debut of the live episode of The Voice with these high energy renditions of classic Queen hits will set the tone for our live shows.” Well that’s probably going to draw in the audiences. After all, how often does one see Cee-Lo Green, Christina Aguilera, Blake and Adam Levine singing together?
With American Idol season 10 coming to a close next week, I thought I should start writing on NBC’s own reality TV talent show “The Voice”. The show is already on its 4th episode and just finished the second round of the Battle Rounds. Cee-Lo Green’s team of Nakia and The Austin performed “Closer”, with Nakia moving on. Blake Shelton’s team of Elenowen and Jared Blake competed with “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough”, with Jared moving on. Adam Levine’s team saw Angela Wolff take on Javier Colon on “Stand by Me”, with Javier moving on. Christina Aguilera’s team had Beverly McClellan and Justin Grennan do “Baba O’Riley” with Beverly winning the round. Did you catch the show? What did you think of their choices?
TV is about to get bombarded with nothing but singing competitions as Christina Aguilera, Cee-Lo Green, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton have all signed on to judge NBC’s new show “The Voice”. The new show is set to rival American Idol and the US version of the X Factor. However, Christina has faith that the show will stand out because of the stellar judging panel. The pop singer said “We know what it’s like to get up on that stage. I was even a contestant on Star Search years ago. For me, I know what it’s like to be them. One of the reasons I was hesitant about doing a show like this was because I wanted to make sure I was a part of something very positive and not negative just for television’s sake. I wanted to bring positivity and a really honest perspective.” I can’t wait to see what they come up with.
