The top 4 singers on NBC’s The Voice weren’t the only ones who had double duty last night as the coaches hit the stage together to perform Queen and David Bowie’s hit collaboration “Under Pressure”. Christina Aguilera, Adam Levine, Blake Shelton and Cee-Lo Green did a medley of the rock band’s hits earlier this month so I guess they’ve stuck to a theme. If it wasn’t for Adam and Blake though, this performance could have just been cut from the show and I wouldn’t have lost anything. I am really starting to dislike Christina’s need for diva vocal runs and Cee-Lo is just all over the place.
Here are all performances from the last night the Voice show:

I’m not the biggest Beyonce fan but I have to say that she gave the performance of her life yesterday when the R&B singer closed down the 2011 Glastonbury Festival in England. She pretty much silenced critics who said she wasn’t suitable for the main headliner spot by delivering a high-energy, brilliant and emotional concert. Beyonce also became the first woman in over 20 years to headline the music festival and the first African-American female ever. She delivered an extensive set list that included hits from her back catalogue, a Destiny’s Child medley, some covers and new tracks from her latest album “4”. Check out some of her performances below.

Selena Gomez is a pretty nice girl with a great personality. But as far as her talents as a singer, the Disney star leaves much to be desired. Selena recently had a mini concert on Good Morning America at Central Park in New York City. She sang her little heart out for thousands of fans. The only word I could think of after her performance was disappointing. I’m not sure if this is how she really performs live since I’ve never paid much attention to her or if she’s still not feeling 100% good after being hospitalized for food poisoning and exhaustion.

Jessie J rocked the stage on Britain’s Got Talent last week where the rising pop singer performed a killer rendition of her song “Mama Knows Best”. The track comes off of her debut album “Who You Are”. I love watching Jessie J perform, even more so this performance. It’s like watching a musical play. I wonder why she didn’t sing her official new single “Nobody’s Perfect” though. The song is still fighting within the Top 20 on the UK charts. Maybe Jessie J just doesn’t want to lose any momentum and is perhaps planning to release “Mama Knows Best” as a single in the near future. What do you think?

Next to take the American Idol stage was James Durbin, dressed in all black with lots of spikes and studs, performing with rock and roll legends Judas Priest on “Breaking the Law”. James was clearly having the time of his life. This whole performance screamed so much of an actual concert for me. There were some serious pyro going on and just an all out amazing performance. James even got a standing ovation from the judges. Why couldn’t he have been part of the top 2? It would have been a more exciting finale night if he was. Do you have something against pure rock stars America?

Round three of American Idol performance night saw the top 2 singers take on the songs that they’ll record if they win. Scotty McCreery got “I Love You This Big”. This was actually a good song, especially for the finale. I guess it pays to have Jimmy Iovine involved. It has a good hook and I think it would do well on the radio. Scotty owned it too. Lauren Alaina got “Like My Mother Does”. This was actually better than what Scotty got. After her performance, I think it was pretty much nailed down that she’s going to win. While she sang it very well, I think it will have little to do with that. Round three for me, as well as for the judges, goes to Lauren.

We finally found out which two singers will be battling it out on American Idol season 10’s finale next week. After all the commercials, video packages and guest performances, Ryan Seacrest was handed the envelope, the lights were dimmed and someone was sent home. I was hoping for the top 2 to be Scotty McCreery and Haley Reinhart but after the performance night seeing Haley deal with some of the toughest songs and the judges siding more with Lauren Alaina, I was really nervous about the elimination. And apparently, I had reason to be when Ryan revealed that it was Haley that was going home. They may be touted as the most talented bunch but this season had robbed so many great singers that I’m saying this sucks the most.

KIIS FM’s 2011 Wango Tango edition took place this past Saturday at Los Angeles’ Staples Center. This year’s performers included the likes of Ke$ha, Selena Gomez, Far East Movement, Adam Lambert, Lupe Fiasco and Jennifer Lopez among others. Speaking of JLo, I have to admire her cool and professional manner. Halfway through her performance of “On the Floor” with Pitbull, her mic got turned off. I guess there was some technical problem at the venue. However, the pop star knew how to work past the problem and the audience’s patience. When the power came back on, she strongly demanded to take it from the top. Awesome!

Most of the performers were on top of their game for this past Wednesday’s performance night on American Idol while others failed to impress. With three weeks left to go in the competition, there’s just no excuse to just coast along. Before announcing who was at the bottom, Ryan Seacrest announced that there were 60 million votes cast. After getting reviews from Jimmy Iovine, we saw Lauren Alaina standing with Jacob Lusk, and James Durbin standing with Haley Reinhart. Scotty was asked to choose to stand with the duo who he thought was safe. When he refused, Ryan led him over to Haley and James and announced that they were safe. And as I had hoped, we said goodbye to Jacob last night. Did you agree with the results?

The Foo Fighters were the music guests on this past weekend’s episode of Saturday Night Live, which saw Oscar award winning actress Helen Mirren as host. The American rock band took the stage to perform some tracks from their album “Wasting Light”, namely the lead single “Rope” and “Walk”. It was a solid effort and it looks like their appearance on SNL has paid off as their album has since gotten back in the top 10 on the US iTunes. I’ve always been a fan of the Foo Fighters so I’m really happy that they’re garnering success for their current record.

Last night’s Rock n Roll Hall of Fame episode of American Idol was a rare one, at least for this season, because no one was terrible. I guess the singers finally figured that it’s crunch time. I’ll just make one review of performances and it’s for Pia Toscano. She’s been choosing ballads for the longest time ever and she promised last week that she’d do an up tempo song this week. And finally we got it in the form of “River Deep, Mountain High”. Her vocals were amazing but she’s lacking in stage presence. Pia’s a great singer but not a performer. Now for my thoughts on who’s safe and who’s going home. I think Scotty McCreery, James Durbin and Casey Abrams are 100% safe, with Pia, Lauren Alaina and Jacob Lusk likely to be safe as well. I think the bottom 3 would be Haley Reinhart, Stefano Langone and Paul McDonald, with Stefano going home. What do you think?

If I had any doubts that the judges’ save drama from last week’s American Idol was staged, they were crushed in the first minute of last night’s episode. Ryan asked the contestants last about the judges’ save like they already knew it was going to be used. I was offended then and I’m offended now. Pimping out Casey Abrams excessively is so unfair and definitely overkill. I’m also creeped out by Ryan’s obviously botox-treated face and highly annoyed at Jennifer Lopez’s constant interruption of Randy Jackson and Steven Tyler during their critiques. Speaking of Steven, I’m beginning to think that he’s the useless judge this season. He’s just not giving any solid advice.

Jennifer Hudson returned to the show that opened the doors of stardom for her. The now Oscar-winning actress and Grammy-winning R&B singer performed her single “Where You At” on American Idol’s results show last night. The girl has been everywhere in support of her “I Remember Me” album but the constant travels and performances seems to not affect her as Jennifer sounded stunning on the show. And if you thought that her male backup singer looked familiar, it’s actually George Huff. He was also a former AI contestant, appearing on the same season as Jennifer. He may not have made it big but he’s still singing with the best of them.

It looks like this American Idol season’s viewers pretty much know what they like and what they don’t. As proof of this stands this week’s bottom three which also includes two contestants that are on their return trip to this unfortunate situation. The bottom three present in last night’s American Idol episode is comprised of Karen Rodriguez, Haley Reinhart and Naima Adedapo. The first two are the unfortunate ones that have apparently made it on the bottom three for the second time and one of them is actually going to get the chance to do it a third… although that would be a very unfortunate thing indeed.

The results show of American Idol bugs me as much as the song choices that the contestants made this week did. From the butchered opening performance to mics not being turned on at the right time, I was wishing it wasn’t a live show but rather a pre-recorded one. And then there’s the fluff of a Ford commercial, loads of fillers and the audience getting a free 10-year anniversary CD. Don’t even get me started on the contestant interview and Pia Toscano being censored for saying “shih tzu”. Another lame part had to be the St. Patrick’s Day lighting gag. Why are you doing this AI?

After being the very first American Idol contestant to use a stand-up bass as an instrument, Casey Abrams has once again broken new ground by singing Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit”. Last night’s American Idol episode was all about songs from the contestant’s year of birth so Casey Abrams made a very interesting and unique choice. He also used a bass on stage. As for the performance itself, Casey Abrams is definitely no Kurt Cobain and his rendition wasn’t really one hundred percent accurate, but he did manage to get into the spirit of things and that seems to have counted a lot with the judges. Steven Tyler actually said that Casey Abrams is “so crazy, so good and so talented and that is the perfect match”.

For last night’s American Idol episode contestant Lauren Alaina chose for her personal idol performance Shania Twain’s “Any Man of Mine”. It seems that even though Lauren Alaina did a pretty good job with the song, that’s all it was: a pretty good performance. The judges were expecting something more extraordinary and that was their main point of criticism. Steven Tyler however did seem to be on Lauren Alaina’s side more then the others. It does look like this was her first slip-up of the season, but hopefully this won’t hinder her chances of making it to the end of the show.

The singer who snagged an award for “Best Breakthrough Act” apparently couldn’t help but brag about meeting Rihanna and Cheryl Cole at the ceremony. This is what Justin Bieber tweeted on the matter: “I got nervous up there and couldn’t rememeber anything. Lol. I did get to kiss cherylcole and rihanna on my way to the stage.” Well, well… Justin Bieber sure isn’t letting any of that charm of his go to waste. Still he might want to keep in mind that he does have a girlfriend now and such interactions might be frowned upon a bit. But then again, Justin Bieber does seem like the kind of dude who can get any girl he wants.

The show recently had auditions in San Francisco, California and apparently they hit a pretty big jackpot there as well. It seems that a lot of the contestants had their own tragic life stories and among them there was James Durbin. He’s unfortunately diagnosed with Tourette’s Syndrome and Asperger’s Syndrome and his father died when he was only nine years old. But to top it all off he has a very broadly ranging voice and a loving family and his rendition of Led Zeppelin’s “You Shook Me” almost blew the judges off of their seats. He also did Aerosmith’s “Drive On” which impressed Steven Tyler a lot so it was an all yes from the judges and James Durbin might just be another important figure to look out for on the race for the next American Idol prize.

Well, after botching up the National Anthem at this year’s Super Bowl, it was only natural that Christina Aguilera issue an official apology and this is what it sounded like: “I got so caught up in the moment of the song that I lost my place. I can only hope that everyone could feel my love for this country and that the true spirit of its anthem still came through.” Well, she certainly couldn’t have made the feeling of the song any clearer. If Christina Aguilera was being more of a ham with her singing they would’ve had to make a food commercial for her as well during half-time.

Panic! At the Disco is back this 2011 with a new album called “Vices & Virtues”, which will be available on March 29th. The project’s lead single “The Ballad of Mona Lisa” was officially released earlier this week so you know that the rock band has to start with promo rounds. Brendon Urie and Spencer Smith, the only remaining members of the lineup, kicked things off with an appearance on Billboard’s “Live Q&A”, where they performed an acoustic performance of the lead single. It’s the perfect execution and I’m not itching to see how they would perform the song with the drums and electric guitars.

Or at least this is his daughter’s opinion… no, not Liv Tyler, his other daughter, Mia Tyler. Apparently she thinks that Steven Tyler is what American Idol has been missing for a very long time. This is what Mia Tyler had to say about her dad being a judge on the show: “He’s the funniest man I know. He’s saving the show because it was kind of boring before. There’s only so many times you can watch Simon be mean to people.” So it’s clear… the fan base is polarized: there are those who couldn’t stand Simon Cowell and those who watched the show just because he was there. Well, Steven Tyler surely is a refreshing change to how the show was being done so far.

The singers family is apparently not too into her career, especially the dress-code which she has during her photo-shoots, videos, concerts and what not. This is what Nichole Scherzinger had to say on the matter: “I still listen to my mom and my grandfather is a priest! They weren’t too excited when they saw the covers of magazines where my back was nude, and when I did the ‘Hush Hush’ video, my mother was like:, ‘Oh my goodness, I can’t believe you were at the bathtub, almost. so bare.’” Unfortunately, thats what sells these days and Nicole Scherzinger is just conforming to it. What kind of success would Pussycat Dolls have if she didnt?

Miley Cyrus was originally set to perform the Poison hit Every Rose has Its Thorn at the 2010 American Music Awards held at the Nokia Theatre LA Live in Los Angeles this past Sunday. However, the Disney singer/actress made a last minute switch and performed her song Love and Forgiveness off of her album Cant Be Tamed instead. I wonder if its because of the reports that her parents are actually going through a divorce because her mom allegedly had an affair with Poison rock star Bret Michaels. Its a big possibility. In any case, Miley did well on her performance. Im glad to see that she managed to keep herself together through these tough times.

Christina Aguilera rocked out on the Today Show this past Tuesday in New York City. The 29-year old powerhouse singer sang a couple of songs from her new album Bionic which is already out in stores. On the show, Christina shared how her son influenced her most recent album. The pop star shared to Matt Lauer I was completely inspired by a lot of electronic music when my son was born. We both were listening to it a lot together. Having a child makes me think about the future and the next generation. And I got really inspired by electronica. He definitely inspires the playful side of me that I didnt really have prior to having him. He really inspired me.
