Taylor Swift’s latest music video for her song ‘Fearless’ has finally come out. The 20-year old Grammy award winning singer gave viewers a chance to see footage from both backstage and from her actually shows from all over the world. The country cutie also talked about her song saying “When I wrote ‘Fearless,’ I wasn’t dating anyone. I wasn’t even in the beginning stages of dating anybody. I really was all by myself out on tour and I got this idea for a song about the best first date. I think sometimes when you’re writing love songs, you don’t write them about what you’re going through at the moment, you write about what you wish you had. So, this song is about the best first date I haven’t had yet.”

After her speech, rapper Jay-Z could be seen in the audience making gestures with his hands to the star.

“He was shocked!” Beyonce said of the speech. “He was just like, ‘What did you say?’ I was just like, ‘What did I just do? No, I didn’t just say that.”

Big Machine Records CEO Scott Borchetta recently defended Taylor Swift’s Grammy performance as it has been on the receiving end of some criticism. The music exec blamed a technical difficulty but also said “This is not American Idol. This is not a competition of getting up and seeing who can sing the highest note. This is about a true artist and writer and communicator. It’s not about that technically perfect performance.” The original AI champ, Kelly Clarkson, isn’t going to take that comment lying down and she wrote Scott an open letter on her blog in response to his comment. The singer said “Every artist has a bad performance or two and that is understandable, but throwing blame will not make the situation at hand any better. I have been criticized left and right for having shaky performances before and what my manager or label executives say to me and the public is ‘I’ll kick butt next time’ or ‘every performance isn’t going to be perfect’…I bring this up because you should take a lesson from these people and instead of lashing out at other artists (that in your ‘humble’ opinion lack true artistry).”

The singer who landed two Grammy awards this year recently admitted that she was driven to tears before performing with Elton John at the ceremony. This is what Lady GaGa related on the matter: “I’m just so happy, I can’t say enough and Elton was so amazing and the performance was really truly magical. I had been fantasizing about this performance piece for a while and we got to do it… and I’m just really truly floored. I ruined all of my make-up right before the show. Crying… I was just so happy.” Considering the type of look that Lady GaGa usually goes for, nobody probably even noticed that she had altered her make-up. It might have freaked Elton John out a bit, though.

Beyonce made an amazing sweep at the 2010 Grammy Awards as the 28-year old powerhouse singer picked up a record six Grammy awards this past Sunday. That’s the most wins by a female in one night at the Grammys! She won Song of the Year for ‘Single Ladies’, Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for ‘Halo’, Best Female R&B Performance for ‘Single Ladies’, Best Traditional R&B Performance for ‘At Last’, Best R&B Song for ‘Single Ladies’ and Best Contemporary R&B Album for ‘I Am… Sasha Fierce’. Congratulations to Beyonce! I wonder where she’s going to put all of those Grammy awards.

Who would have thought that the Pope likes rap music? Finally, after years of thanking God for Grammy’s and BET Awards, it paid off. The Vatican recently released an official music playlist selected by the Pope himself. Among the selections were music by Mozart, Muse and Tupac Shakur. Times are definitely changing. Maybe that’s why the late rapper’s most recognizable song, ‘Changes’, made the cut. It’s definitely an honor and totally unexpected. I wonder if Tupac is throwing back a couple of shots with the angels upstairs in celebration of the fact. It’s going to be a while before I get over this one.

Lady Gaga has sold over 1.5 million copies of her debut album ‘The Fame’ but is ineligible for the Best New Artist category at this year’s Grammy Awards due to her nomination for ‘Just Dance’ last year in the Best Dance Recording category. Jennifer Hudson also suffered a similar fate last year as she was snubbed for the Best New Artist category as she was previously nominated in the Outstanding Motion Picture Soundtrack Compilation category for ‘Dreamgirls’. Now, Grammy president Neil Portnow is addressing the problem, saying “This particular issue in the Best New Artist category is on our radar and I would expect changes to address it in next year’s voting.”

Due to some stupid rule, Lady Gaga is ineligible to be nominated for the Grammy’s Best New Artist when it’s pretty clear that she is the best new artist of the year. The reason is that the princess of pop was nominated for ‘Just Dance’ last year in the dance recording category rendering her unable to be nominated under the Best New Artist category this year by Grammy regulations. Oh well. The singer has had multiple singles reach the top spot off of her debut album ‘The Fame’ which has sold over 1.53 million copies. Those facts are much greater than a Grammy statue!

The Recording Academy, the people who are behind The Grammys, has released a statement regarding the death of Michael Jackson. CEO/President Neil Portnow said in the statement “Rarely has the world received a gift with the magnitude of artistry, talent and vision as Michael Jackson. He was a true musical icon whose identifiable voice, innovative dance moves, stunning musical versatility and sheer star power carried him from childhood to worldwide claim. A 13-time Grammy recipient, Michael’s career transcends musical and cultural genres, and his contributions will always keep him in our hearts and memories. We are deeply saddened by this tragic news, and our hearts go out to his family and to music lovers around the globe who mourn this great loss.”

This year’s Grammys may be laden with issues but the viewership saw an improvement of 10% as compared from last year. A healthy 19 million people tuned in. I guess the diverse line up and hard marketing push did some good for this year’s show. In a statement, a CBS exec said “It was a broadcast with something for every generation and, importantly, it was supported by a marketing campaign for every platform.” According to reports, everything from a Katie Couric prime time special earlier last week to a marketing push on social media sites like Facebook and Twitter were used to get the message out.

Questo from the Roots was at an LA Grammy party this past weekend where Radiohead performed. It looks like the band’s front man was having lots of fun up on stage as Questo was quoted in saying “haaaaaaaa! thom yorke is jammin! he dancin like a muppet on acid. i love it. how he got more soul than 10 of post modern rnb artists?” If that was the case, I bet everyone at that party had just as much fun as those two rockers. Radiohead performed at the 2009 Annual Grammy Awards the next night with the USC marching band.

The Grammy was more than exciting; it was like a reality show. So now that you know what happened to Rihanna, Chris Brown and Usher–all of whom did not make it as Grammy performers for one reason or another, here’s one tidbit that would also be of interest. Here’s one celebrity who made it to the Grammy come hell and high water. Travis Barker did not want to miss the Grammy night that he went anyway despite having his arm on a sling. Barker just had surgery after his arms suffered injuries due to last September’s plane crash which killed four people.

Barker, who came with ex-wife Shanna Moakler, said he literally jumped out of his hospital bed numb hand and all just to be at the Grammy. He is suffering from bad nerve damage which explains the surgery and supposedly the 8 to 10 weeks recovery period. The Blink 182 drummer suffered second and third degree burns due the plane crash. He is set for a couple more surgeries in the near future.

Next to Jennifer Aniston, his two Grammys may well be John Mayer’s most precious possessions these days. Or is it the other way around and his two Grammy Awards his gift to girlfriend Aniston who just celebrated her 40th birthday? Whichever way it goes, John Mayer is now a certified Grammy winner. Mayer won over music greats Kid Rock and Paul McCartney for the 2009 Grammy’s best male pop vocal performance for “Say”. He also won over Neil Young for the Grammy’s best solo rock vocal performance award for “Gravity”.

Mayer had his pre-Grammy night full at Aniston birthday bash which was held at her Beverly Hills home. The two were unmindful of the guests, mostly close friends anyway, and danced and huddled the night away. Among the birthday girl’s guests were Courteney Cox and husband David Arquette, Sheryl Crow, Tobey Maguire and wife Jen, Oprah Winfrey, Kevin Nealon, Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson and Sheryl Crow.

Back in December, music man Joe Satriani is alleging that Coldplay’s ‘Viva La Vida’ is a rip off of his song ‘I Just Wanna Fly’. The iconic guitarist asserts that the band has dodged being served his plagiarism lawsuit but hopes that it won’t be the case much longer. He and his lawyer are planning to fill the Grammys with servers ready to pounce on Coldplay. The lawyer representing Joe said “We have warned their British lawyers that we have hired a fleet of process servers lined up to dog the band everywhere they go this weekend in the hopes of serving them.”

Some very lucky Katy Perry fans will get the opportunity of a lifetime and perform with the singer on stage at the Grammys! Katy is set to perform at the awards ceremony which will air on February 8th. Fans can have the opportunity to perform with her by uploading a video of themselves singing a part of her hit song ‘I Kissed a Girl’ at cbs.com/grammys. The Recording Academy President and CEO Neil Portnow says “We are very excited that this year’s installment of My Grammy Moment allows numerous online fans to be an integral part of a performance.” Videos can be submitted up until February 6th.

A dozen years after the breakthrough debut of Jagged Little Pill, an album which earned four Grammys and spawned a dedicated worldwide fan base, Alanis Morissette remains not only an enduringly popular artist, but one whose success stems from a fierce commitment to authenticity and, to an equal extent, vulnerability. Both of these traits enable her to climb to new ground with her forthcoming album, Flavors of Entanglement, due June 10, 2008 in the United States and June 2, 2008 internationally from Warner Bros. Records.
