Due to some stupid rule, Lady Gaga is ineligible to be nominated for the Grammy’s Best New Artist when it’s pretty clear that she is the best new artist of the year. The reason is that the princess of pop was nominated for ‘Just Dance’ last year in the dance recording category rendering her unable to be nominated under the Best New Artist category this year by Grammy regulations. Oh well. The singer has had multiple singles reach the top spot off of her debut album ‘The Fame’ which has sold over 1.53 million copies. Those facts are much greater than a Grammy statue!

The Recording Academy, the people who are behind The Grammys, has released a statement regarding the death of Michael Jackson. CEO/President Neil Portnow said in the statement “Rarely has the world received a gift with the magnitude of artistry, talent and vision as Michael Jackson. He was a true musical icon whose identifiable voice, innovative dance moves, stunning musical versatility and sheer star power carried him from childhood to worldwide claim. A 13-time Grammy recipient, Michael’s career transcends musical and cultural genres, and his contributions will always keep him in our hearts and memories. We are deeply saddened by this tragic news, and our hearts go out to his family and to music lovers around the globe who mourn this great loss.”

This year’s Grammys may be laden with issues but the viewership saw an improvement of 10% as compared from last year. A healthy 19 million people tuned in. I guess the diverse line up and hard marketing push did some good for this year’s show. In a statement, a CBS exec said “It was a broadcast with something for every generation and, importantly, it was supported by a marketing campaign for every platform.” According to reports, everything from a Katie Couric prime time special earlier last week to a marketing push on social media sites like Facebook and Twitter were used to get the message out.

Questo from the Roots was at an LA Grammy party this past weekend where Radiohead performed. It looks like the band’s front man was having lots of fun up on stage as Questo was quoted in saying “haaaaaaaa! thom yorke is jammin! he dancin like a muppet on acid. i love it. how he got more soul than 10 of post modern rnb artists?” If that was the case, I bet everyone at that party had just as much fun as those two rockers. Radiohead performed at the 2009 Annual Grammy Awards the next night with the USC marching band.

The Grammy was more than exciting; it was like a reality show. So now that you know what happened to Rihanna, Chris Brown and Usher–all of whom did not make it as Grammy performers for one reason or another, here’s one tidbit that would also be of interest. Here’s one celebrity who made it to the Grammy come hell and high water. Travis Barker did not want to miss the Grammy night that he went anyway despite having his arm on a sling. Barker just had surgery after his arms suffered injuries due to last September’s plane crash which killed four people.

Barker, who came with ex-wife Shanna Moakler, said he literally jumped out of his hospital bed numb hand and all just to be at the Grammy. He is suffering from bad nerve damage which explains the surgery and supposedly the 8 to 10 weeks recovery period. The Blink 182 drummer suffered second and third degree burns due the plane crash. He is set for a couple more surgeries in the near future.

Next to Jennifer Aniston, his two Grammys may well be John Mayer’s most precious possessions these days. Or is it the other way around and his two Grammy Awards his gift to girlfriend Aniston who just celebrated her 40th birthday? Whichever way it goes, John Mayer is now a certified Grammy winner. Mayer won over music greats Kid Rock and Paul McCartney for the 2009 Grammy’s best male pop vocal performance for “Say”. He also won over Neil Young for the Grammy’s best solo rock vocal performance award for “Gravity”.

Mayer had his pre-Grammy night full at Aniston birthday bash which was held at her Beverly Hills home. The two were unmindful of the guests, mostly close friends anyway, and danced and huddled the night away. Among the birthday girl’s guests were Courteney Cox and husband David Arquette, Sheryl Crow, Tobey Maguire and wife Jen, Oprah Winfrey, Kevin Nealon, Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson and Sheryl Crow.

Back in December, music man Joe Satriani is alleging that Coldplay’s ‘Viva La Vida’ is a rip off of his song ‘I Just Wanna Fly’. The iconic guitarist asserts that the band has dodged being served his plagiarism lawsuit but hopes that it won’t be the case much longer. He and his lawyer are planning to fill the Grammys with servers ready to pounce on Coldplay. The lawyer representing Joe said “We have warned their British lawyers that we have hired a fleet of process servers lined up to dog the band everywhere they go this weekend in the hopes of serving them.”

A dozen years after the breakthrough debut of Jagged Little Pill, an album which earned four Grammys and spawned a dedicated worldwide fan base, Alanis Morissette remains not only an enduringly popular artist, but one whose success stems from a fierce commitment to authenticity and, to an equal extent, vulnerability. Both of these traits enable her to climb to new ground with her forthcoming album, Flavors of Entanglement, due June 10, 2008 in the United States and June 2, 2008 internationally from Warner Bros. Records.

Beyonce flaunted her dangerous curves at the Sony BMG Music 2008 Grammy Awards After Party at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on Sunday night. The Bootylicious singer showed off more skin than her usual flashy armpits with her dress?s plunging back. However, she knew how much to keep hidden when she kept things covered up in all the right places. I may be getting sick of her being all over the place these days but I can?t help but envy the fact that her body was made for evening gowns. If only she was made for not getting us saturated with her face and music then she?d be perfect.

Either way, Kanye paid a touching tribute to his mom, Donda West who died suddenly last year. He hit his knees while performing his song, “Hey Mama” and showcasing her name shaved into the back of his head.

When he won his grammy, he also gave props to Mama. As he used up his time, the music started playing. When he started talking about his mother, he quickly told them that the proper thing to do would be to stop the music. They did, and he continued.

He didn’t win Album of the Year, but it was a great night for Kanye after all.

The very beautiful and talented Leona Lewis is in Los Angeles. The X Factor champ is slated to perform at music mogul Clive Davis? annual pre-Grammy party this weekend. The ?Bleeding Love? singer was at her rehearsal on Thursday where she revealed that we should expect something juicy at the Brit Awards for which she received 4 nominations. The Brit Awards will be on later this month and I wish Leona all the best. But in the meantime, she looks like she?s getting ready to take over this side of the pond. Next on her list, the rest of the world!

Amy Winehouse has been banned from America after failing a drug test.

The singer applied for a visa to attend Sunday?s Grammys bash, but was denied as officials found traces of an un-named illegal drug in her blood following the test at the US Embassy in central London. Pals said Amy, 24, was ?gutted? by the news yesterday, and fear it will affect her battle with drugs.

A spokesman said she accepts the ban. But a pal said she was ?desperate? to perform at the Los Angeles bash – where she is up for six awards – adding: ?It was her main incentive to get clean. It?s a blow.?

Amy is now expected to perform via a live satellite link to the awards ceremony.

Alicia Keys is set to perform at the 50th Annual Grammy Awards. The Grammy award-winning singer is the latest addition to the star-studded line-up, which also includes Beyonc?, Mary J. Blige, Rihanna, the Foo Fighters and Tina Turner. The Grammy awards are famous for their unusual pairings, and this year is no exception

While Beyonc? and Tina Turner are expected to duet, ‘Umbrella’ star Rihanna is set to team up with reunited group The Time to commemorate the ceremony’s 50th anniversary. In addition, Aretha Franklin and Mary J. Blige will appear on stage with The Clark Sisters, Israel and New Breed, and Trin-i-Tee 5:7 for a one-off gospel performance.

The ceremony, which is being held in Los Angeles’ Staples Center on February 10, will also feature a special tribute to British band The Beatles. Casts from Las Vegas’ Beatles tribute show ‘LOVE by Cirque du Soleil’ and film musical ‘Across The Universe’ will join forces in an exclusive tribute to the late John Lennon and George Harrison and the band’s surviving members Sir Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr. Presenters at the ceremony include Cyndi Lauper, Bette Midler and Nat King Cole’s daughter Natalie

One act I doubt will be appearing is Amy Winehouse?

Foo Fighter?s founder, primary songwriter, and front man David Grohl has credited his new writing style to becoming a father. His little girl Violet was born in 2006 and Grohl said, he felt like “superman in a way because I had to be.”

He adds he “can’t be scared of writing things that I really feel.” It seems to have done the trick too. Foo Fighter?s current album has five Grammy nominations, including album of the year.

The first single, “The Pretender,” spent a record 17 weeks at number one on Billboard’s Modern Rock chart. The Foo Fighters will play the song at the 50th anniversary Grammy Awards on February 10th.
