Lee DeWyze was crowned the new American Idol last week and just like the champions before him, his debut single was rushed released into the music world. But unlike other Idols before him, the singer’s single is tanking. In its first week of sales, Lee has only sold 95,000 copies of his debut single ‘Beautiful Day’. It came in at #10 on the sales charts but its lack of airplay means it will come in much lower on the Billboard Hot 100. If you put things into perspective – Kris Allen peddled 134,000 downloads of ‘No Boundaries’ in its first week and David Cook sold 236,000 of ‘Time of My Life’ and debuted at #1 on the charts. Welcome to the decline of the reality TV talent show! it’s the end of an era.
David Cook recently scored his third Top 10 Single on Adult Radio. The 26-year old American Idol champ?s introductory single ?Time of My Life? reached number 7, its follow up ?Light On? peaked at number 4 and his latest single ?Come Back to Me? moved into the number 10 spot last week. The singer has announced that he also has plans to extend his first ever solo tour, ?The Declaration Tour ? 2009? through October 2009. It?s good to see that his career is flourishing. More power to him and congratulations on scoring that third top 10. I wonder when he?ll score a number 1.
Despite putting on one of the biggest productions compared to previous seasons, American Idol season 8?s finale was down in viewership by 12% compared to last year?s finale show. That?s too bad because whoever chose to not watch missed an amazing set of performances. Performers included Queen Latifah, David Cook, Jason Mraz, Carlos Santana, Black Eyed Peas, Lionel Richie, Rod Stewart, Cyndi Lauper, Keith Urban, Steve Martin, KISS and Queen. Of course, every single one of the Top 13 was also there to perform. It was a great showcase of talent. The past, present and future of music was greatly presented in one amazing show.
Just a week after his beloved brother?s death, David Cook got back to his tour this past weekend. The obviously heartbroken singer took the stage in Akron, Ohio and struggled to get through several of his songs, though he made no actual mention of his personal tragedy. During one of his songs, the American Idol winner stopped to address the audience saying ?It’s gonna be tough for me. I’m sorry. Do you mind if I sing a different song?? Some reports even claim that David walked off the stage entirely during the song ?Come Back to Me? but returned 5 minutes later. Stay strong David!
Last season?s American Idol champ David Cook is teaming up with AT&T to debut a sneak peek of his highly-anticipated new music video ?Come Back to Me? during a commercial break of this night?s elimination episode of American Idol on FOX. Afterwards, AT&T wireless customers can get a link to watch on their mobile phones via AT&T Cellular Video by texting ?COOK? to 8008; AT&T U-Verse customers can access it through their Video on Demand menu; and all fans can watch it online at music.att.net. I wonder if his being uncomfortable at kissing his video co-star will show on screen.
American Idol champ David Cook took a big bite out of his self-titled major label debut album at Hard Rock Caf? in Times Square last week. His CD dropped in stores last week and is expected to land in the top three during its first week in sales. The 25-year old singer and songwriter recently sat down with EW to talk about his music. When asked about the comparison between him and Chris Daughtry, he said ?Opinions and perceptions, man ? I didn?t let it get to me on the show, and I see no reason to let it get to me afterward. I just think this record is me, and if people want to compare it to Daughtry, awesome. He?s sold a ton of records. I just hope someday the coin will flip and somebody will compare somebody else to me.?
American Idol champ David Cook and his runner up David Archuleta were both spotted while passing through LAX airport in Los Angeles on Wednesday. The younger David, who arrived with his father Jeff, recently blogged on why he?s in town saying ?I?m in L.A. for the time we have off right now and have had a couple of meetings involving the album, which were fun. Our next show is in St. Louis, and I?m pretty sure I?ve never been there so it should be fun to see the big arch there haha. Anyway I?ll try to get that blog up, even though it?s not fancy or anything haha, so you guys can at least see it soon. Oh one more thing. On So You Think You Can Dance, a couple named Katee and Will danced to my performance ?Imagine.? I thought that was way cool! Haha. They did awesome. I feel? Like honored lol. Ok sorry i?m out of it right now so have a good night everyone.?
Just to show how American Idol is on the edge of the music industry, this week?s show had a theme of Neil Diamond songs. I guess they forgot to say that it was the outer edge of the music industry they were on. The Idols sang two songs each this week, each having a turn before their 2nd song. Jason Castro sang ?Forever in Blue Jeans? and ?September Morn?. David Cook sang ?I?m Alive? and ?All I Really Need is You?. Brooke White sang ?I?m a Believer? and ?I Am? I Said?. David Archuleta sang ?Sweet Caroline? and ?America?. Syesha Mercado sang ?Hello Again? and ?Thank the Lord for the Night Time?. And I thought Andrew Lloyd Webber week was lame.
