Lana Del Rey has made her TV debut by performing her song “Video Games” on the UK show “Later… with Jools Holland”. The 24-year old internet sensation, whose real name is Lizzy Grant, recently sold out her first UK show in about 30 seconds and has already racked up more than 2 million views on YouTube. I’m not surprised at all considering how talented she is. I love her unique and sultry vocals. And I love that she’s singing in the jazz/soul genre. Her performance was captivating simply because of her voice. But I just have to ask, is anyone else seeing a resemblance between her and Natalie Portman?
The Rock in Rio festival has returned to Brazil after 10 years and to kick things off in a big way, organizers packed the first day with top international stars. One of the artists who was tasked to set the tone for the rest of the festival for the100,000 people gathered at Rio de Janeiro was Katy Perry. The pop singer performed an energetic set that revised the hit singles from her two studio albums including “California Gurls”, “Firework”, “Thinking of You”, “Hot N Cold” and more. Adele has been forced to postpone two UK concert dates after falling ill to a nasty chest infection. The singer withdrew from her performances at the Plymouth Pavillions and at the Bournemouth International Centre. Adele released a statement on her official website, saying “hi guys, sorry about the first 2 shows. im as useless as a slug right now, ive had a rotten cold since i got home earlier this week and was hoping it wouldnt make its way onto my chest. but unfortunately it has and its leaving me breathless and i cant hold any of my notes when i sing.” Get well soon!
Skylar Grey played her first UK show ever this past Monday when the singer hit the stage at East London’s XOYO to present herself as the mastermind behind the amazing choruses in the hits “Coming Home”, “Words I Never Said”, “I Need a Doctor” and “Love the Way You Lie”. Immediately after doing that medley, Skylar did her solo efforts and sang her singles “Dance Without You” and “invisible”. I have a ton of respect to Skylar with her talents as a vocalist and songwriter. She was just born to do this. I feel a little worried though with “Invisible” being her first single. The song is beautiful but risky and maybe just a little unfriendly for radio.

Natalia Kills celebrated the US release of her debut album “Perfectionist” last week with an intimate acoustic performance atop the roof of the Atlas Hotel in New York City. The British singer/songwriter sang her heart out! Natalia slays everyone with her songs “Free”, her new US singler, “Wonderland”, my favorite in her whole album”, and “Love is a Suicide”. She wore an elegant outfit for the occasion and I think she delivered one of her best live shows to date. I loved the theatrics too! Selena Gomez is a pretty nice girl with a great personality. But as far as her talents as a singer, the Disney star leaves much to be desired. Selena recently had a mini concert on Good Morning America at Central Park in New York City. She sang her little heart out for thousands of fans. The only word I could think of after her performance was disappointing. I’m not sure if this is how she really performs live since I’ve never paid much attention to her or if she’s still not feeling 100% good after being hospitalized for food poisoning and exhaustion.

Rihanna has reportedly signed a 3-year partnership with The Barbados Tourism Authority to exclusively promote the island destination as a tourist spot, starting August 5th with a performance of her “Loud” concert in Bridgetown. The R&B singer will also exclusively do promotional work through ad campaigns and appearances, specifically during the Brazilian leg of her tour. Rihanna said “Barbados is a place like no other and one of the reasons for this is the spirit and national pride of our people. I want each and every visitor to this beautiful island to experience what makes this destination different from all others and that is the spirit and warmth of my fellow Barbadians.”
Britney Spears kicked off her much anticipated “Femme Fatale” tour last night at the Power Balance Pavilion in Sacramento. As it was previously revealed, the pop singer’s set list consisted of 22 full songs, comprising of her huge back catalogue of hit music, going all the way to her first album “Baby… One More Time”. Of course, the concert was filled with new tracks from her “Femme Fatale” album as well, with the closing song being “Til the World Ends”. Britney also sang her hits “If You Seek Amy”, “Gimme More”, “I Wanna Go”, “Womanizer” and her new song “Lace and Leather”.
The singer seems to be very optimistic and excited about her upcoming tour and she wants to make her fans feel the same way. This is what Katy Perry had to say about her new tour: “It has room to grow. A typical tour is three months, but we’re going to the end of November. It’s nice to be able to expand and get out of the same same same. That’s the fun thing about success. I can take advantage of it. Now I can say, ‘I want a machine that simulates the whipped-cream boobs from the “California Gurls” video.’ I just want to keep things fresh, keep people on their toes and keep myself excited.” So Katy Perry’s fans have nothing but good things to look forward to from her upcoming tour. Maybe she’s even going to try and match Rihanna’s new stage perks.
Rihanna kicked off her “Loud” world tour this past Saturday in Baltimore, Maryland. Among her exciting and lengthy set list, the R&B singer performed her brand new and controversial single “Man Down”. After the premiere of the music video for the song, the US Parents Television Council immediately went out to accuse Rihanna that the video was “an apparent enticement to young women to turn to violence”. She has since addressed the issue on BET’s 106 & Park and on Twitter. And to shut it all out, Rihanna did a killer performance of “Man Down” during her concert. Work it!

It seems that whoever is going to see Taylor Swift on her new tour is in for quite the show… as were the ones who attended her recent concert which featured a great number of theatrics that aren’t normally seen in concerts. When asked to describe her new tour, this is what Taylor Swift said: “The tour is exactly how my imagination looks and I’m so excited that we get to have these entire scenes created on stage.” Well it seems that Taylor Swift’s imagination surely is an amazing place. If it hasn’t already, this is bound to get the ticket sales for her next shows up a bit… and with good reason.
Lenny Kravitz fans have a lot to be happy about. Earlier this week, it was confirmed that the rock singer was going to play the role of Cinna in the “Hunger Games” movie. Now, he has announced that he’ll be releasing his new album “Black and White America” on August 22. He’s also announced that he’s got a tour of Europe in the works. I’m glad to see that things are going well for Lenny. I’m pumped to hear some new music from him and I’m really looking forward to seeing him in “Hunger Games”. Hip hop band Black Eyed Peas have recently announced that they plan to officially retire their 2005 hit “My Humps” and will no longer perform it live in concert. Rapper will.i.am explains “For a while, [we did] My Humps and then it got to the point where we didn’t want to play My Humps no more. You know, ’cause, ‘I met a girl down at the disco,’ I just didn’t want to say that no more, lyrically.” Or maybe the song just gets way too annoying after a while. I know that’s how I feel about it so I can’t blame them for wanting to retire it.
Katy Perry hasn’t even started her North American tour yet but she’s already added a handful of new concert dates. The pop singer has added 8 more stops on her California Dreams tour in September. The new dates include San Antonio on September 7, New Orleans on September 8, Louisville on September 10, Grand Rapids on September 11, Columbus on September 13, Indianapolis on September 14, Omaha on September 16 and Tulsa on September 17. Blink 182 has announced on their website earlier this week that they have re-scheduled their European summer tour for next summer in order to finish the album. Through a statement on their website, the rock back wrote “It is with heavy hearts that we have to announce our planned 2011 European summer tour has been rescheduled. When we booked the tour last year, we were confident that we would have the new album out before the summer. Turns out we were mistaken as the album is taking longer than we thought and won’t be out till later this year. Rather than do another ‘greatest hits tour’ which you all saw last summer. The three of us are working very hard to do what we set out to do when we re-formed, get a new Blink-182 album recorded.” While it’s sad for their European fans, I think they made a smart move and hopefully, their new music would be worth the wait.
Enrique Iglesias is not going on tour with Britney Spears this summer. The Latino singer was announced to be joining the princess of pop only for Enrique to pull out a mere couple of hours after the announcement was made. Enrique posted a message on his personal page saying “Hey guys, sorry for the confusion regarding a possible tour in the summer with Britney Spears. We are on the Euphoria tour and will continue to do so including some soon-to-be-announced dates in US. So hope to see all of you soon.” It seems like Enrique would rather headline his own tour than play second fiddle to Britney. What do you think?
ABC’s Good Morning America just aired Britney Spears’ mini concert which was taped last Sunday at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco. The three song set included the pop singer’s new songs “Hold it Against me”, “Big Fat Bass” and “Till the World Ends”. In this manner, Britney officially kicks off the promo rounds in support of her new album “Femme Fatale” which is out in stores now. She also announced the first dates of her upcoming world tour on GMA. Brit will tour the US during the summer with international dates soon to follow. Rihanna’s tour may not be doing so well in the US but she’s doing great in the UK. It has just been announced that the R&B singer will play a ninth concert at the O2 Arena in London , scheduled for December 22. The tickets have gone on sale today so make sure you snatch them up. If her ticket sales for the UK are anything to go by, they’re going to get sold out pretty quickly. If you’re one to keep count, Rihanna has now beat out pop star Britney Spears who managed to do eight shows at the O2 on her Circus tour.
Things are apparently not going too well for Rihanna career-wise. It looks like the singer might just have to cancel her “Loud” tour because the ticket sales haven’t been all that good. This is what a source said about Rihanna’s current predicament: “It has been a big disappointment. The ticket sales in big U.S. cities like Boston are so bad, they will barely cover basics like the lighting and other arena costs. Tour managers are begging local radio stations to do giveaways.” Who would’ve thought that Rihanna would have problems of this sort? Maybe she might be able to take a few tips from Janet Jackson who was a real superstar when it came to ticket sales a little while back.
Singer Justin Bieber is reportedly planning to invite Dancing On Ice star Johnson Beharry on stage with him. The 17-year-old pop star is currently touring the UK with his My World tour and he will be playing the O2 Arena in London on March 16. It’s claimed Bieber is a big fan of Victoria Cross hero Johnson Beharry, 31, and he got in touch with him through Beharry’s professional skating partner Jodeyne Higgins. A source said to UK newspaper The Sun: "Justin has been told of Johnson’s bravery and is really excited to meet him." Beharry was given the Victoria Cross, the highest military award for valour, in 2005 after he saved members of his regiment from ambushes in Iraq.
The singer was recently seen at Rihanna’s concert in Australia interacting very emotionally with Calvin Harris. Actually Kesha’s interaction was of such an observable nature that it prompted one of the onlookers to say the following about it: “They were getting right into it. They were practically fornicating.” Well they were attending one of Rihanna’s concerts, after all… and Kesha has established a reputation as a somewhat rambunctious being… so it’s no wonder she and Calvin Harris left the concert together before it was even over. This is probably going to go on Rihanna’s record though and her shows will now be known for inspiring even more raunchiness… and it’s all Kesha’s fault.

Multiple sources close to the pop singer have claimed that she will be taking “Femme Fatale” on the road and according to an Investor’s Report on LiveNation “At this point, the company expects over 75% of its key Front Line artists to be active and touring during 2011, compared to under 50% of those artists actively touring last year. Major tours are currently expected from, among others, The Eagles, Jimmy Buffett, Kenny Chesney, Neil Diamond, the cast of ‘Glee’, Journey, Kid Rock, Kings Of Leon, Britney Spears and Sugarland.” Hopefully we’ll get an official announcement soon.
Rihanna has recently added some new dates to her “Loud” tour and she’s decided to take hip hop singer Cee-Lo Green on the road with her. The 22-year old Barbadian R&B singer added ten new concert dates to her tour, which is set to kick off in June. Shows in Montreal, Winnipeg, Saskatoon, Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver, Houston, Dallas, Albuquerque, and Boston are now scheduled. Cee-Lo recently issue a statement regarding his part on the tour, saying “I want to thank Rihanna for inviting me on our version of ‘50 First Dates,’ only difference is she’s unforgettable fine. Don’t tell her I have a crush on her, don’t wanna mess everything up. But honestly it’s an honor and a blessing to be able to go out with a talent such as hers and I look forward to doing my part to make the tour unforgettable for the fans that come out and see us.”

The White Stripes have been on a hiatus since 2007 but lead singer Jack White recently revealed that he and Meg White are headed back into the studio to record another album. The rock star said We thought we’d do a lot of things that we’d never done: a full tour of Canada, a documentary, coffee-table book, live album, a boxed set. It was one long project that took almost three years.
Now that we’ve gotten a lot of that out of our system, Meg and I can get back in the studio and start fresh. I cant wait to see what theyve got in store.
Justin Bieber is in some trouble after a 12-year old boy complained that the pop singer punched him in the face at a laser tag center in Richmond, British Columbia. Staff from the Planet Lazer Entertainment Center said that the teen sensation was being followed around and heavily targeted during the game. Sources have confirmed that the boy was hurt but also said that I cannot confirm the identity of the other party. A news station said that Justin might be under investigation for assault. Im not too sure about this. As much as I dislike Justin, I doubt that the usually happy-go-lucky teenager would go around and hit someone.
According to the bands manager Irving Azoff, Van Halen is reportedly plotting a tour for next year. Irving revealed the news while fulfilling his duties as Live Nation Ticketmaster chairman at a concert promoters meeting this past Monday. If youre a fan of the rock icons, dont get too excited though. Irving has broken promises before. He also promised that Van Halen would have a tour this year but it never happened. It would be cool if the 2011 tour does happen though. But they need to make up for making us anticipate a tour this year that never took place.
Usher is getting ready to head out on the road for a tour. Starting in November, the R&B singer will tour North American and visit 25 cities to bring his music to his fans. The tour kicks off with a concert in Seattle, Washington on November 10 and will wrap up on December 18 in Hartford, Connecticut. Its good to note that while he was rumored to be going on tour with Usher at one point, Chris Brown will not be joining his fellow music artist. Who needs him anyway? Usher is having an amazing year and this tour could be just as epic.
Theres sadness in the world of cowboys and cowgirls as Brooks & Dunn ended their almost 20-year long career with one last concert in Nashville last week. The gig appropriately benefited the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. Fans packed the Bridgestone Arena for the epic two-hour concert. As the two country singers came to the stage, they treated their fans to a high energy show that will most definitely go down in country history. Kix Brooks told the crowd This is not a funeral.
