Steven Tyler’s Schedule with American Idol

Ξ August 2nd, 2010 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Aerosmith, American Idol |

If the reports are true that Steven Tyler will become part of the new panel of judges on American Idol, the rock singer will have a crazy schedule travelling the country on top of his band being on tour all over the country. Aerosmith is currently in the middle of a nationwide tour and it’s scheduled to roll through the end of September. If you know your timelines, that puts it long after the production begins on the reality TV talent show. A rep for the band still won’t confirm that Steven is locked up for AI but she did say that no matter what “The Aerosmith tour will continue on for its full scheduled run with Steven Tyler.”

American Idol host Ryan Seacrest will “miss” Ellen DeGeneres on the show.

Ellen, 52, announced yesterday that she was leaving the talent competition after just one season.

And Ryan, 35, took to his Twitter page to express his sadness about her departure from the show.

He wrote: “Spoke with Ellen DeGeneres tonight, I will miss her on ‘Idol’. She’s one of the kindest and most talented people in Hollywood!”

DeGeneres is reportedly leaving Idol because of her busy work schedule.

A source told UsMagazine.com: “Ellen definitely quit, she wasn’t pushed at all. She knew she couldn’t fit, Ellen wanted out for a while.”

It has been claimed that singer Jennifer Lopez and Aerosmith star Steven Tyler are to take seats on the judging panel.

Chris Isaak is reportedly in talks to take over from Simon Cowell on American Idol.

The Wicked Game singer is said to have had two meetings with network executives about the role, with Fox’s entertainment chairman Peter Rice reportedly keen for the new judge to be in place to join the audition roadshow in September.

Another king of smooth, Harry Connick Jr, has also been mentioned as a possible contender, while rocker Bret Michaels was given the once-over but is out of the running, says the Hollywood Reporter.

Lee DeWyze is a Flop

Ξ June 4th, 2010 | → 0 Comments | ∇ American Idol, David Cook, Idols, Kris Allen, Lee DeWyze |

Lee DeWyze was crowned the new American Idol last week and just like the champions before him, his debut single was rushed released into the music world. But unlike other Idols before him, the singer’s single is tanking. In its first week of sales, Lee has only sold 95,000 copies of his debut single ‘Beautiful Day’. It came in at #10 on the sales charts but its lack of airplay means it will come in much lower on the Billboard Hot 100. If you put things into perspective – Kris Allen peddled 134,000 downloads of ‘No Boundaries’ in its first week and David Cook sold 236,000 of ‘Time of My Life’ and debuted at #1 on the charts. Welcome to the decline of the reality TV talent show! it’s the end of an era.

American Idol Top 2 Get Record Deals

Ξ May 31st, 2010 | → 0 Comments | ∇ American Idol, Crystal Bowersox, Lee DeWyze, Record Label |

American Idol champion Lee DeWyze and runner up Crystal Bowersox have both signed their recording contracts. The 24-year old season 9 winner is signed to 19 Recordings and RCA Records while the 24-year old Janis Joplin sound alike is signed to 19 Recordings and Jive Records. Lee joins fellow alums Chris Daughtry and Adam Lambert as label mates while Cyrstal joins Jordin Sparks, Kris Allen and Allison Iraheta. I wonder which of them can come up with a hit first. Congratulations on those music deals! I hope that both of them deliver some great music and wish them successful careers.

Janet Jackson’s appearance on American Idol

Ξ May 27th, 2010 | → 0 Comments | ∇ American Idol, Performance |

Among the many, many surprises prepared by the American Idol producers that got leaked on the internet was also the rumor of Janet Jackson’s appearance on the show. True enough, the singer did make a “surprise” appearance, apparently at a very good moment in order to break-up a very nasty sounding chorus formed of the contestants and sing “Nothing” and “Nasty”, which is quite ironic in hindsight. Also Janet Jackson probably took the opportunity to show off her new haircut and shock her fans… some of whom might have confused her for Rihanna. She might want to get ready for a lot of that since now the two are very much similar.

American Idol doesn’t boast big ratings

Ξ May 26th, 2010 | → 0 Comments | ∇ American Idol, Crystal Bowersox, Lee DeWyze, Simon Cowell |

The very last sing-off of American Idol between Crystal Bowersox and Lee DeWyze apparently didn’t turn out to be such an epic ending as some might have wished… or hoped. It seems the show’s ratings fell by 23% in comparison to what they were last year and these also have every chance of being the lowest ratings ever for American Idol. And since Simon Cowell is leaving the show, it’s a surprise they’re even holding auditions for another season. If there was ever a good time for Simon Cowell to start his own American version of The X Factor, this is it. His leaving does however reminisce of what rats do when a ship sinks.
Do you care who will win American Idol 2010?

Crystal Bowersox and Lee DeWyze in the final battle

Ξ May 20th, 2010 | → 0 Comments | ∇ American Idol, Lee DeWyze |

And what a battle it will be! Now that this season of American Idol is drawing to a close there is great anticipation for next week’s final battle between Crystal Bowersox and Lee DeWyze, especially since nobody knows where Casey James’ votes will go. It seems that Lee DeWyze is the one who will sing first as decided by Crystal Bowersox who won the coin toss on the matter. She’s the first female finalist in a pretty long time so it’s probably going to be a pretty interesting confrontation next week. Simon Cowell is probably besides himself with excitement, especially since this is his very last American Idol finale.

Lee DeWyze brings it home

Ξ May 19th, 2010 | → 0 Comments | ∇ American Idol, Lee DeWyze, Performance |

As no American Idol finale would be complete without two finalists, Crystal Bowersox has to have somebody to battle it out with and that somebody is apparently going to be Lee DeWyze. For his big performance last night Simon Cowell picked Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” for Lee DeWyze saying the following about the choice: “This is his night, big, big night for him, and I wanted him to do something which shows that he has potential to be a great artist.” It looks like Simon Cowell’s gut really does tell him some true things because it was an excellent choice for Lee DeWyze who managed to drown the whole place in applause when he was done… and he also got himself a nice first place on the idol meter.

No Replacement for Simon Cowell Yet

Ξ May 14th, 2010 | → 0 Comments | ∇ American Idol, Idols, Simon Cowell |

There are only a few episodes left of American Idol meaning theres only so much time left until Simon Cowell will be gone from the judges table permanently. However, theres still no replacement named. Its being said that the snarky judges replacement will not be revealed until after the May 26 season finale. Fox chairman Peter Rice said Were not going to rush into something. Were not going to try to find a Simon clone who can do what he does because, you know, hes one of a kind. But the [Idol] format itself, people love. I wonder who theyre going to pick.

American Idol Elimination – Top Four

Ξ May 13th, 2010 | → 0 Comments | ∇ American Idol |

We finally found out who the top 3 contestants are on American Idol. The bottom singers arent revealed and instead, the top 4 were relieved of the stress one by one. Casey James and Lee DeWyze were the first to be revealed to be safe. Just by seeing whos left to go home, I knew that it was going to be Michael Lynche leaving before it was even announced. Casey James, Lee DeWyze, and Crystal Bowersox are in the top 3.
My personal favorite is Crystal Bowersox

Aaron Kelly is in the bottom for the third time

Ξ May 6th, 2010 | → 0 Comments | ∇ American Idol |

And it looks like this time really was the American Idol contestants last and very unlucky charm. Aaron Kelly got voted off of American Idol last night since his Fly me to the Moon rendition from Frank Sinatra didnt manage to convince the audience to well. Ryan Seacrest gave the following words of encouragement for Aaron Kelly: “You are truly an inspiration,” Seeing as how he only made 5th hes probably an inspiration to Danny Gokey and the like and thats not going to stop him from rising in the pop world in a flash. Unfortunately for him, hes going to have to do it from home and not this seasons American Idol podium.

Michael Lynche brings it home

Ξ May 5th, 2010 | → 0 Comments | ∇ American Idol, Performance, Simon Cowell |

Well, its pretty obvious who the star of last nights American Idol episode was. A mere glance at Simon Cowells comment about Michael Lynches performance will be more than an answer to that question: “The first three performance have been OK. Now, with you, that’s all changed. … I actually felt that you listened and that everyone worked together on that performance. … Fantastic. Well done.” It looks like the American Idol contestant really managed to sell Frank Sinatras The Way You Look Tonight to the judges and to the audience from the looks of the Idol Meter. Theres really no doubt now about whos going to be safe this week.

Tim Urbans fame not gone yet

Ξ April 29th, 2010 | → 0 Comments | ∇ American Idol |

Everybody probably still remembers Tim Urban: the American Idol contestant that stayed on the show longer than anyone would have expected. Well it turns out that Tim Urban wont let his fame fall into oblivion that easily and last night he was on the Late Night Show with David Letterman where he played Cant help falling in love. It looks like hes not going to give up music or his newfound popularity and if he follows the Danny Gokey method, hell probably reach fame and success while the others are still trapped trying to win American Idol. Thats real stardom right there!

Siobhan Magnus finds Simon Cowells weak spot

Its pretty amazing to believe that he actually has something like that, but apparently its true. It looks like Simon Cowell is quite partial to screams he must be a closet metal fan. Siobhan Magnus decided to go with Any Man of Mine on Shania Twain week and she ended it with a really powerful scream of which the fabled Earl of Exigency had this to say: “The screaming at the end may have gone a little bit … it was almost like you were giving birth up there.” He just doesnt know how to say he dug Siobhan Magnus performance. It looks like we may have a winner on our hands at least for this week.

Shania Twain returning to American Idol

Ξ April 22nd, 2010 | → 0 Comments | ∇ American Idol, Country Music |

It looks like next week is going to be Shania Twain week on American Idol since the singer is going to be returning as a guest judge to watch the remaining six contestants drag all of her songs through the dirt. But Shania Twain will also be mentoring them so maybe shell manage to save her songs from total annihilation if she does her job right. It will be interesting to see what she manages to make of Crystal Bowersox and the others that are left to fight for the cup. Its so sad that Tim Urban wont be there anymore she sure couldve made a real star out of him.

American Idol Band Leader Moves to Leno

Ξ April 16th, 2010 | → 0 Comments | ∇ American Idol, Music, Super Bowl |

It has been reported that American Idol musical director Ricky Minor will be replacing Kevin Eubanks on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Ricky has worked as a musical director for the likes of Beyonce, Ray Charles, Alicia Keys, Christina Aguilera, Whitney Houston and a boat load of others. He was also musical director for the Grammy Awards and the Super Bowl. Kevin will be leaving his spot as band leader at the end of May, right around the same time that this season of AI comes to an end. NBC has also confirmed that Ricky will debut on The Tonight Show on June 7. I wonder if he has comedic abilities too.

Adam Lamberts not straining himself

It seems that American Idol executive producer, Ken Warwick, considered that Adam Lambert was having a bit of trouble with his career but the former American Idol contestant recently assured everyone that that is not the case. This is what Adam Lambert said on the matter: Its so sweet of him. I dont feel like Im struggling at all. I think things are right where they need to be. My single What Do You Want From Me, is just breaking into the Top 10 right now. Im really glad that they had me on the show. I really enjoyed helping the other contestants.” There is no need to worry Adam Lambert is well on his way to breeding pop minions of his own. The future is very bright for him.

Lee DeWyze is in the dude zone

Ξ April 14th, 2010 | → 0 Comments | ∇ American Idol, Performance |

And apparently, its the best place to be on American Idol, at least as far as Randy Jackson is concerned. Lee DeWyze apparently had a very good rendition of Elvis Presleys Treat her like a lady which probably left Randy Jackson Speechless but he still managed to mutter a few things, though: “Dude, you are definitely in the zone, dude. Very dude. Very good, dude.” Simon Cowell apparently isnt familiar with the realm of dude, but he too says only good things about Lee DeWyzes performance: “That was on the money, full stop.” It seems that the American Idol contestant managed to take the cup last night lets see how long he can hold it.

Paul McCartney sent a special message to the contestants of American Idol as they prepared to sing Lennon and McCartney songs.

“Hey there, Paul McCartney here,” the Beatles legend said in a message to the final contestants. “I’m very pleased that you’re singing the songs of Lennon and McCartney and I just want to say get out there, go for it – enjoy yourselves. Good luck!”

Meanwhile, new judge Ellen DeGeneres had a cheeky swipe at Simon Cowell, who recently got engaged. After one contestant sang Can’t Buy Me Love, Ellen said: “First of all, you can buy love” and, as all the judges looked towards mega-rich Cowell, she added: “Am I right, Simon?”

Weird Happenings on American Idol

Ξ April 1st, 2010 | → 0 Comments | ∇ American Idol |

Weirdest thing to happen on American Idol was the fact that the talentless Tim Urban got to stay instead of Didi Benami. Im going to start calling him the new Sanjaya. I just hope Tim doesnt last as long. And did you guys see the purple extension glued to the back of Big Mikes head? Apparently, he told the stylists that he was feeling a bit like Siobhan that day so they decided to put it there. Odd. Ryan Seacrest and Simon Cowell had some drama going on. Seems to me like someone is jealous really. I think theyre banter is there to replace Paula Abduls usual rants about Simon.

Lee DeWyzes treat for the judges

Ξ March 31st, 2010 | → 0 Comments | ∇ American Idol, Performance, Simon Cowell |

It seems that the American Idol contestant managed to prepare a real treat for the judges last night as he chose Treat Her Like That from the Cornelius Brothers. Lee DeWyze apparently almost knocked them dead with his performance and if you need any proof of that just take a look at what Simon Cowell said about it: “You know, I’ve always believed in you. This was the night your life may have changed forever.” Yes, well Simon Cowell probably believes in everybody who can get close to winning. Still it is a good thing for Lee DeWyze to be on his good side he may never know when he might need a favor from the gods.

American Idol is soon to burn out

Ξ March 26th, 2010 | → 0 Comments | ∇ American Idol, Simon Cowell |

It seems that the producers really dont think they can pull it off without Simon Cowell anymore so next years American Idol season will be its last. And such an epic number of seasons it had: ten, to be exact. This is what a source said about the show reaching its inevitable end: “Producers know Simon really makes the show, and they feel like they could go only one season without him and the quality will suffer after that.” They probably dont even want to try and compete with Simon Cowells upcoming American version of The X Factor. It seems the Earl of Exigency really does have the whole pop-star industry in his back pocket.

American Idol Top 8 Girls Take Stage

Ξ March 11th, 2010 | → 0 Comments | ∇ American Idol, Kelly Clarkson |

The Top 8 girls of American Idol season 9 took the stage on Tuesday and I personally think that the aspiring singers finally brought their game up, with only a couple of exceptions. Katie Stevens did poorly with Kelly Clarksons Break Away. Siobhan Mangus made me wish that she just sang House of the Rising Sun completely a capella. Lacey Brown absolutely nailed Brandy Carlisles,The Story. Kaitlyn Epperlys I Feel the Earth Move was karaoke at best and definitely a terrible song choice. Didi Benami sang Rhiannon and she absolutely nailed it with her uniqueness. Paige has a pretty voice but she still fails to connect with viewers or a song. The best performance of the night goes to Crystal Bowersox with her rendition of Tracy Chapmans Give Me One Reason. Lilly Scott did a pretty good job but I wasnt totally impressed. Who do you think will be eliminated on Thursday?

Reason Behind American Idol Switch

Ξ March 5th, 2010 | → 0 Comments | ∇ American Idol, Performance |

There was a change of plans on American Idol this week. On Tuesday, the top 10 female semifinalists were supposed to perform. But due to last minute medical issues with one of the contestants, the top 10 guys took to the stage. Though it wasnt revealed what the exact problem was, it was revealed on Wednesdays show that it was aspiring singer Crystal Bowersox that caused the whole switch. I was glad to see that all the singers were able to pull themselves together even though the guys got wind of the switch just a few hours before their performances and that Crystal was able to perform on Wednesday.

Kara DioGuardi and Simon Cowell are targets of chat show joke

Ξ March 4th, 2010 | → 1 Comments | ∇ American Idol, Featured, Simon Cowell |

A US chat show host has poked fun at how close Simon Cowell’s fellow American Idol judge Kara DioGuardi is getting to the newly-engaged star – in a sketch suggesting she’ll soon be lap dancing for him.

Host Jimmy Kimmel agreed with Idol host Ryan Seacrest’s observation that Kara is sitting closer and closer to Cowell with each show.

And he put together a package of clips to support the theory – ending with his own sketch of a shapely woman wearing Kara’s dress, dancing for a man supposed to be Cowell.

The spoof was screened on Wednesday night just hours after American Idol was aired.

Kimmel introduced it by saying: This season – and Ryan Seacrest mentioned this on air, I was thinking it was just me – but I noticed that Kara has been sitting next to Simon.

They seem to be getting closer physically each night.”

Host Seacrest had said to married Kara on Wednesday’s American Idol: I notice this year you have been cosying up close to Simon’s plunging neckline there.

What’s happening there? Anything you want to tell us?

Cowell, whose fiance is Idol make-up artist Mezhgan Hussainy, encouraged the banter by telling Kara: You want me, don’t you?

Simon Cowell is engaged to Mezhgan Hussainy

Ξ March 2nd, 2010 | → 0 Comments | ∇ American Idol, Featured, Love and Romance, Simon Cowell |

Simon Cowell is engaged to Mezhgan Hussainy. It’s all but official, People magazine reports.

The magazine quotes a reliable source saying Cowell is happier than he’s been in years.

Hussainy, 36, has shown off a sparkler on her left hand as reports of their engagement after just six months of dating surfaced on both sides of the Atlantic. Cowell, America’s top TV earner, was “very suited” to the make-up artist who emigrated to the US with her family from war-torn Afghanistan. Cowell’s representative Max Clifford told the magazine: “She is someone who is independent and says what she thinks and feels, and he likes that. He’s probably the happiest I have ever known him in the nine years I’ve been working with him.”

Clifford continued: “They have known each other for years. They’ve actually been going out together for the last year. She knows him – she’s been around him. So, she knows the person he is, and he knows the person she is. That’s why it works so well.”

Cowell is the star judge of Britain’s The X Factor, Britain’s Got Talent and American Idol in the US.

Simon Cowell has made a rare apology to an American Idol contestant who was booted from the show for a third time.

The acid-tongued judge said he regretted sending home down-on-her-luck contestant Angella Martin, who made it to the Hollywood round of the show three years in a row, only to be sent home.

Simon Cowell sent his apologies to her, saying that the judges got it wrong and she should have been in the top 24.

He said: “Angela, I apologise. I genuinely do, because I think you should have been in the top 24.”
