The same guys who sued Common for copyright infringement have also set their sights on Bone Thugs n Harmony and Akon, accusing the hip hop artists of ripping them off of the exact same song that they were suing rapper Common for. In a lawsuit that was filed just a day after Common’s, Songster, LLC, which owns the rights to the song ‘When Will the Day Come’, claims that Bone Thugs, Akon and producer Swizz Beatz ripped off their music for the collaboration ‘I Tried’. Songster is seeking unspecified damages. There’s no word on who they will sue next. What is this, a collect and select type of thing?

The rapper has recently been contacted by FIFA to be in charge of the music at the opening ceremony at the South African Tournament next month. Akon had this to say abut his new position: “I’ve been hired as musical director for the World Cup. I will be overseeing the World Cup anthem and music at the ceremonies and I’m off to South Africa this week for meetings. I love soccer so it’s a great honor.” He also added the following about involving football players in the music while referring to David Beckham: “I know David, he’s my man. But I’m not asking for his advice. Footballers should stick to football.” Interesting boundaries Akon sets… but I ask myself how a rapper is going to arrange world cup music… but hey, why be skeptical. Why not just wait and see how Akon manages to… handle the situation.

Aubrey O’Day may be saying good things about Danity Kane but we all know she thinks that she’s way better than them and that she doesn’t need them. It looks like Aubrey is already in talks for a solo career. It’s being said that she’s already in talks with Steve Rifkind at SRC/Universal for a deal. Rifkind even allegedly asked Aubrey to go into the studio to work with Akon. It looks like she might be getting her break after all. I doubt anyone is going to care if she does get an album out though. She should just stick to doing Playboy.

Idol fans, this is your time for sweet revenge. He may not have won the competition, but he won the hearts of album buyers this year. Billboard named Chris Daughtry the most popular album of 2007. They sold about 3.2 million copies.

Just half a million shy of that, in second place, is Akon’s album “Konvicted”, followed by the Hannah Montana soundtrack (2.5 million), Fergie’s “The Dutchess” (2.4 million), and Carrie Underwood’s “Some Hearts” (2.3 million).

Number one song of the year was “Irreplaceable” by Beyonce, with Rihanna coming in just behind with “Umbrella”. Top tour of the year was The Police’s reunion tour, bringing in $212 million at last estimate.

This time Akon was nowhere near the stage when the drama occurred.
A free concert featuring the hip-hop star at Emory University in Atlanta was canceled Thursday afternoon after part of the outdoor stage collapsed during construction, injuring three people, two of them seriously. I feel really bad for the injured because they were there to have some with friends and this happens because the people who were responsible for putting the stage together must have messed up their work and as a result these poor chaps are now getting treatment. There can be insurance for everything and reimbursement for medical aid from hospital but these are some bad scars that are left on the 3 persons injured and it will take a long time to heal these scars on their minds. Thankfully Akon was not there or else his name would have been dragged into this and a controversy created by the media that wherever he goes there is an incident involving him.

R&B hitmaker Akon was pleasantly surprised by his three-year stint in a U.S. prison – because the experience wasn’t horrible or terrifying. The Lonely singer, who was jailed after he was found guilty of grand theft auto, spent much of his time behind bars planning for a pop music career and penning songs that have since become massive hits. I thought that only a pretty woman or a fascinating river side location could be motivating and inspirational enough or for the really dumb people the toilet seat is a place for all those crap songs that feature on MTV. He if really coined those hits in the jail then he ought to have made a contract with the county jail in LA, signing up to stay behind the bars for 15 days every year, seven days he can do some community service and the rest 7-8 he could create his songs. He says, “It definitely wasn’t what I expected. It was actually a lot more pleasant.

A month after he lost his Verizon tour sponsorship for aggressively randy onstage conduct with an underage girl, the MC is under the microscope again, this time for throwing a 15-year-old male fan from the stage.
Police are still considering whether any charges will be filed in the incident, which occurred on Sunday at Dutchess Stadium in Fishkill, New York, during a concert by local station WSPK (104.7). On Wednesday, Akon?s attorney released a statement proclaiming the singer?s innocence in the bizarre episode, caught on fans? cell-phone cameras, in which Akon appears to grab a fan brought up on stage by security and hurl the boy into the crowd.
?Given the information that we have reviewed to date, it does not appear to us that Akon was involved in any criminal conduct whatsoever?, read a statement from Akon?s attorney, Benjamin Brafman. ?We are prepared to fully cooperate with any law enforcement agency that may be investigating this incident. We are confident that after a thorough investigation it will be apparent that no criminal prosecution of Akon is warranted.?
According to the Journal, the boy?s mother contacted authorities and gave them her son?s name. Police had been seeking the boy to see if he?d been injured in the incident and was interested in pressing charges. So far, no criminal charges have been filed against Akon and the Journal reported that the uninjured boy refused medical treatment on site and left right after the incident.
This is the second time in two months that Akon?s onstage antics have gotten him in trouble. In April, during a concert in Trinidad, the singer was videotaped simulating sex with a 14-year-old girl on stage, which resulted in Verizon withdrawing its sponsorship of Akon?s current tour with Gwen Stefani. Akon apologized for the raunchy performance and said later that he didn?t know the girl ? a pastor?s daughter ? was underage.
At press time, Fishkill police had not responded to MTV News? requests for comment on the investigation.
