Madonna is giving Malawi one more chance

Ξ June 30th, 2011 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Madonna |

It looks like the singer has not yet given up on the African nation and is planning on trying to break their hearts one more time. After her failed attempt at opening a girls’ school, Madonna is going to try to open an orphanage in Malawi. This is what the singer had to say on the matter: ”My short term goals are to build an orphan care center that will service and reach at least 1,000 children and I’m also actively involved in funding several orphanages that already exist.” Well it certainly looks like Madonna is trying really, really hard to be a good person… but something just keeps getting in the way.

New Video from Cobra Starship – You Make Me Feel

Ξ June 29th, 2011 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Music, Music Bands, Video |

Cobra Starship recently premiered the music video for their song “You Make Me Feel” via MTV. The synth pop band’s very catchy, albeit sounding like a Calvin Harris rip off, single is the lead track from their upcoming album “Night Shades”. The track also features upcoming rapper Sabi. In any case, I like the song. The beat is hot and Sabi’s hook is blazing. As for the video, I think it’s just meh. It’s still that basic club and party concept where lead singer Gabe Saporta has fun in a photo booth while Sabi works it out on the pole.

The Voice Coaches Perform

Ξ June 29th, 2011 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Performance, The Voice, Video, reality show |

The top 4 singers on NBC’s The Voice weren’t the only ones who had double duty last night as the coaches hit the stage together to perform Queen and David Bowie’s hit collaboration “Under Pressure”. Christina Aguilera, Adam Levine, Blake Shelton and Cee-Lo Green did a medley of the rock band’s hits earlier this month so I guess they’ve stuck to a theme. If it wasn’t for Adam and Blake though, this performance could have just been cut from the show and I wouldn’t have lost anything. I am really starting to dislike Christina’s need for diva vocal runs and Cee-Lo is just all over the place.
Here are all performances from the last night the Voice show:

Justin Bieber Wants to Collaborate with Lil Wayne

Ξ June 28th, 2011 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Justin Bieber, Lil Wayne |

Justin Bieber has a lot going on for him these days, but the pop singer hopes that he’ll be getting back into the studio some time soon. When he does, Justin is hoping to work on a new duet with none other than Lil Wayne. However, the rapper is apparently not too keen on the idea. It’s not because he doesn’t love the kid, but because he’s afraid of what it’s going to do with his image. Lil Wayne explained “That’s my little homie now. He texts me every night asking me to do [his] damn song. That’s my n**ga, but I can’t do it. Like I said, I don’t want to f**k his s**t up.” To be honest, I can’t really see Lil Wayne toning it down to meet Justin’s audience, nor can I see Justin maturing to meet Lil Wayne’s audience.

DJ Khaled has a new music video – I’m on One

Ξ June 28th, 2011 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Drake, Video |

The DJ has recently released a new music video for the song “I’m on One”, which features Drake, Rick Ross and Lil’ Wayne. In DJ Khaled’s new music video Drake seems to be the one that does most of the singing, but Rick Ross and Lil’ Wayne do their part also. The music video is mainly comprised of seemingly random footage and a few appearances from the artists behind the song… nothing too extraordinary. The song is a rather strange sounding Electropop/Hip-Hop piece. DJ Khaled’s new music video might manage to turn a few heads, but most likely not too many.

Nicki Minaj was on hand at the 2011 BET Awards which were held at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles this past Sunday. The 26-year old rapper picked up the award for Best Female Hip Hop Artist during the show and had a hard time getting what she wanted to say across to the audience. Nicki started her speech by saying “Wow, I can’t believe I won,” which ended up getting some laughs from the crowd. She then said “That’s not what I mean!” But seriously, who else would have taken that trophy away from her considering the oh so stiff competition she had in the category?

Beyonce Closes Glastonbury

I’m not the biggest Beyonce fan but I have to say that she gave the performance of her life yesterday when the R&B singer closed down the 2011 Glastonbury Festival in England. She pretty much silenced critics who said she wasn’t suitable for the main headliner spot by delivering a high-energy, brilliant and emotional concert. Beyonce also became the first woman in over 20 years to headline the music festival and the first African-American female ever. She delivered an extensive set list that included hits from her back catalogue, a Destiny’s Child medley, some covers and new tracks from her latest album “4”. Check out some of her performances below.

New Video from Eminem – Space Bound

I waited four long months to finally be able to watch the music video for Eminem’s “Space Bound”. The Jim Jonsin-produced track is the fourth single from the rapper’s album “Recovery”. The clip was directed by Joseph Kahn and was filmed over a 3-day period in Los Angeles back in February. Apparently, the editing process was really complicated. But forget about the delay and let’s talk about how amazing the video is! The storyline is clever. The two Eminems, the girlfriend played by former porn star Sasha Grey, the relationship problems, the split screen and the ending. Just wow! It’s so intense that you’d lose focus on the song completely.

We just bicker like brother and sister, and part of it is fabricated by the television gods. But she’s great. I respect the sh– out of her. She’s going through a tough time, and God bless her. This show is great for her. But if she busts my balls, I’ll bust hers.”

“Glee” actor Cory Monteith is featured on the cover of the latest issue of Parade magazine, which is out this Sunday. The 29-year old star told the magazine that by the age of 13, he was skipping school to drink and do drugs. Cory went to rehab at the age of 19 and was given an ultimatum by his family to get clean or be sent to jail. Cory said “I was done fighting myself. I finally said, ‘I’m gonna start looking at my life and figure out why I’m doing this.’ I don’t want kids to think it’s okay to drop out of school and get high, and they’ll be famous actors, too. But for those people who might give up: Get real about what you want and go after it. If I can, anyone can.”

Justin Bieber Gives Letterman Top 10

There is a rumor that Justin Bieber was knocked to the ground by a man in the crowd at New York City Macy’s store where Justin was to promote his new perfume

Justin Bieber was on hand to present the Top 10 list segment on Wednesday’s episode of “The Late Show with David Letterman”. The category was “Little Known Facts about Justin Bieber”. Who better to deliver the list than the pop singer himself, right? Here’s the funny list:

9. I served 8 months in prison for siphoning gas.
8. The first thing I bought when I hit it big was a four-slice toaster.
7. As hard as I’ve tried, I don’t know how to not be adorable

Gwen Stefani finds it hard to relax

The No Doubt singer has recently admitted that whenever she has any spare time she finds it very hard to relax and actually starts panicking. This is what Gwen Stefani said on the matter: ”There’s never any downtime but when there is, I feel like I’m panicking a bit or trying to plan the next thing. Which is weird because I always thought I was kind of lazy. In my mind, all I really want to do is eat a pizza in my bed.” Well it sure seems that no matter what comes, hell or high-water, Gwen Stefani will always have her beloved bed for relaxation.

Adele Tops Billboard Hot 100

Adele made it back to the top of the Billboard 200 albums chart for the tenth consecutive week last week. Now, the British singer is having even more success on the charts with “Rolling in the Deep” finding its way to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart for its seventh week. I’m also happy to announce that Katy Perry’s “Last Friday Night (TGIF)” has made it to the top 5 of the Hot 100. The song is also doing very well in the Digital Songs chart where it sits at number 1, replacing Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep”, which fell back to number 5. A huge shout out goes to Pitbull for holding the number 2 spot on the Hot 100 with “Give Me Everything” too. Congratulations guys!

Justin Bieber Set to Appear on BET Awards

It has been confirmed that Justin Bieber is scheduled to make an appearance at the BET Awards. How could the most popular act in the music business not make an appearance at the annual hip hop and R&B award show anyway? Note my sarcasm. The 17-year old pop, I reiterate, pop singer joins a list of other artists including Beyonce, Mary J Blige, Kelly Rowland, Trey Songz, Lil Wayne, Drake, Chris Brown, Alicia Keys, Rick Ross, Ace Hood, DJ Khaled and Jill Scott. If Chris Brown is performing, I’m willing to bet that Justin will perform alongside him with their collaboration “Next 2 You”.

Enrique Iglesias has recently premiered the music video for his song “Dirty Dancer” via VEVO. The track is the latest single from the pop singer’s album “Euphoria”. The clip for the RedOne-produced track was directed by Ethan Lader, who has previously directed videos for Mariah Carey, BoB and Bruno Mars. For a high-budget and futuristic-themed video, the concept for Enrique’s video was quite simple. It serves its purpose well enough thought and is in line with the song’s lyrics so I guess it’s not really a bad thing. Check it out so you can see for yourself exactly what I mean.

Beyonce didn’t make too many friends

Ξ June 22nd, 2011 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Beyonce Knowles, family |

Not because of her personality, mind you, but it looks like there were other factors that were beyond Beyonce’s control in making friends. This is what the singer said on the matter: ”Socially I did miss out. I left school at 14 and had a tutor. I was never exposed to people long enough to make friends so my family became my friends.” Well, she does indeed have her family now and given her success, Beyonce probably has a lot more friends than she can handle and even more on the way. Everybody probably wants to be friends with her now.

Lady GaGa performs at the MuchMusic Video Awards

The singer was also among the acts that performed at the Award Ceremony. Lady GaGa chose to sing “Born this Way”. Her performance was reasonably interesting and she even brought a sort of egg-capsule on stage, not to mention the rather large outfit she chose for the performance and the wig that went with it. She did change the suit for something a little more comfortable a bit into her show. She didn’t have any problems with performing the song which is not surprising since she does seem to take her music seriously… even if she does exaggerate with it from time to time.

Selena Gomez Performs on Good Morning America

Selena Gomez is a pretty nice girl with a great personality. But as far as her talents as a singer, the Disney star leaves much to be desired. Selena recently had a mini concert on Good Morning America at Central Park in New York City. She sang her little heart out for thousands of fans. The only word I could think of after her performance was disappointing. I’m not sure if this is how she really performs live since I’ve never paid much attention to her or if she’s still not feeling 100% good after being hospitalized for food poisoning and exhaustion.

U2 Named Biggest Selling Band

For the second year in a row, U2 has been named the highest paid band by Forbes. Every year, the magazine releases a list of the 25 biggest-earning musicians. Acts that have gone on tour consistently throughout the year tend to make the top spots on the list and the rock band was no exception. U2 pulled it $195 million after bringing their 360 tour to a close, with the tour itself banking over $700 million. Coming in second was Bon Jovi, who made $125 million. Elton John came in third with $100 million. Lady Gaga earned $90 million and Michael Buble earned $70 million, to round out the top 5.

Rihanna said “Barbados is a place like no other and one of the reasons for this is the spirit and national pride of our people. I want each and every visitor to this beautiful island to experience what makes this destination different from all others and that is the spirit and warmth of my fellow Barbadians.”

The official second single to come off of Selena Gomez’s upcoming third album “When the Sun Goes Down”, which is out on June 28th, has been revealed to be “Love You Like a Love Song”. The Rock Mafia-produced track sees the 18-year old pop singer/actress return to her dance influenced ways from “A Year Without Rain”. If you loved the track “Round and Round” from that album, you’ll love “Love You Like a Love Song”. It’s catchy, sassy, well-produced and will make you bop around. Selena is bringing her A-game with this new album of hers. I’m not the biggest fan of hers but even I can admit that.

Bruno Mars Makes History

Bruno Mars has scored nothing but perfection with his music this past year and now, the R&B singer has made history. Bruno’s smash hit “Just the Way You Are” just reached its 20th week at the number 1 spot on Billboard’s Adult Contemporary chart. He has beaten out Colbie Caillat and Daniel Powter, and now has the longest-reigning debut single in the list’s almost 50-year history. I think that it’s very well deserved. It’s been months since the song has been released and I still haven’t gotten sick of it. Heck, I’m listening to it right now. Congratulations to Bruno on the achievement!

Justin Timberlake had awkward sex scenes

Ξ June 16th, 2011 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Justin Timberlake, sex |

The singer turned actor has recently admitted that his sex scenes with Mila Kunis in the movie “Friends with Benefits” were reasonably awkward for him. This is what Justin Timberlake said on the matter: ”I’d be lying if I said filming the sex scenes wasn’t completely awkward … The producers and I agreed we would shoot a big chunk of the movie before we got down to the sex scenes, which was a good idea. That allowed Mila and me time to get comfortable. It wasn’t that I didn’t want to go all out for this.” That is a rather strange development, since Mila Kunis at one point says that it was all as natural as natural could be for her. Maybe Justin Timberlake just had a few sex scene jitters because of other aspects.

Check out another cut from Pitbull’s upcoming sixth studio album “Planet Pit”, which is due out on June 21st. The track is called “Come N Go”, was produced by Dr Luke, Benny Blanco and Max Martin, and features pop singer Enrique Iglesias. Pitbull once again kills it in the verses while an auto-tuned Enrique jumps into the infectious hooks. The production is so hot! But it’s not like you can expect anything less considering who produced it. With a smash like this, Pitbull will certainly have the party album of 2011. I wonder if this will be another single for the rapper. I think it should be.

Now that you know who moved on and who got cut from The Voice last night, it’s now time to check out the performances from Team Adam Levine and Team Cee-Lo Green. Cee-Lo’s team saw Tori and Taylor sing “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy”, Vicci Martinez sing “Jolene”, Nakia sing “Sex on Fire” and Curtis Grimes sing “Addicted to Love”. They also put on a very 70s inspired performance of “Everyday People”. It wasn’t on par with last week’s performance by Team Christina Aguilera but they definitely won laughs for their attires. As for Team Adam, Casey Weston sang “Black Horse and the Cherry Tree”, Devon Barley sang “Stop and Stare”, Jeff Jenkins sang “Jesus Take the Wheel” and Javier Colon sang “Angel”. The team also performed “With a Little Help from My Friends”. It was definitely better than Cee-Lo’s team, with Javier stealing the spotlight. Who do you think is going home next week?

Bruno Mars breaks a record half-a-century old

And it all happened on the Billboard’s Adult Contemporary Chart. Not the most prestigious of charts, to be sure, but it is still quite an accomplishment that Bruno Mars’ single, “Just the Way You Are”, apparently has no less than 20 weeks on board for the #1 spot which means that it has broken all previous records and it is the longest reigning single on this chart for the past 50 years. Not a bad day’s work for Bruno Mars. The man has probably achieved what could be called nothing less than pop immortality with this achievement. Let’s see Lady GaGa topping off this one.

The singer has recently released a new music video for his song “Like This, Like That”. Jay Sean’s song is a basic Pop/R&B piece with nothing too amazing in it, reasonably catchy, but not as much as any other of his earlier hits. The music video isn’t too special either since it’s basically just Jay Sean interacting with his female companion in some pretty abstract environments. There is also an intervention by rapper Birdman, but that goes pretty unnoticed as well. Still, the song is not too hard on the ears so it may have some sort of lifespan. The music video however will most likely be very soon forgotten.

Jack White’s anniversary celebration

One has to hand it to the White Stripes musician… probably after divorcing from his long-time wife and band mate, Meg White, Jack White sure seems to have a sense of humor about divorce. Now the singer is celebrating his anniversary with a divorce party in honor of the fact that he and his soon to be ex-wife, Karen Elson, are untying the knot. This is what the couple had to say about the event: “We remain dear and trusted friends and co-parents to our wonderful children Scarlett and Henry Lee. We feel so fortunate for the time we have shared and the time we will continue to spend both separately and together watching our children grow. In honor of that time shared, we are throwing a divorce party. An evening together in Nashville to re-affirm our friendship and celebrate the past and future with close friends and family.” Now that’s a real amiable divorce… at least for now.

Beyonce is featured on the cover of the July issue of Dazed & Confused magazine. The summer music special features the 29-year old R&B singer/actress in what the magazine calls “a scorching hot trailer park fantasy”. When asked about taking her little time away from the music industry, Beyonce said “I needed some time to live. I’ve been signed to the same label since I was 12 years old and never had more than a month and a half off since I was 13. I’ve worked so hard for so many years and just felt like, ‘Well, why not?’” She definitely deserved that break but it’s also great to see and hear her new music.
