Bruno Mars performed his latest single “The Lazy Song” on American Idol’s results show this past Thursday. The reggae-sounding Smeezingtons production serves as the third single from the R&B/pop singer’s debut album “Doo-Wops & Hooligans”. As usual, Bruno’s vocals were flawless. I was actually half expecting him to come out with dancers in gorilla masks and perform like in the music video for the song. However, I was sorely disappointed with the AI crew though. It was made obvious that the performance wasn’t live when they decided to put a dog in the shot. One second the dog is up and about, the next it’s sound asleep. From technical difficulties to bad camera shots, someone in the technical department really needs to step up their game.

I was quite impressed with Kenny Chesney when his album “Hemingway’s Whiskey” hit the number 1 spot on both the Soundscan Top 200 and the Country Albums charts. Now, the country singer’s success continues as his single “Live a Little” has become his 20th number 1 on Billboard’s Country Songs airplay chart. The song also marks Kenny’s third number 1 country songs hit from “Hemingway’s Whiskey”. Congratulations to Kenny on his success! He continues to impress and I don’t think he’s going to stop impressing any time soon. Are you among the people who have helped his song and his album reach this type of success?
Also Kenny Chesney got two nominations for CMT Music Awards for Video of the Year, Male Video of the Year

Metallica fans have a lot to be happy about. Not only is the heavy metal band about to start working on their 10th studio album, but producer Rick Rubin, who was behind their last album “Death Magnetic”, is returning to produce. Bassist Robert Trujillo expressed his excitement on getting back into the studio with Rick in a recent radio interview, saying “Yeah. I love working with Rick. Rick, to me, he’s sort of a Zen guru spirit that Metallica needs right now. Not to say that we need it, because we’re getting along incredibly well, we’re really excited to write some new music. There’s no shortage of riffage in Metallica world right now. And I think it’s only gonna get better.” Are you excited for some new Metallica music?

The Today Show recently unveiled a sneak peek to Jennifer Lopez’s music video for her new single “I’m Into You”. The Stargate-produced and Taio Cruz-penned track is the official second single from the Latina pop singer’s much-anticipated album “Love?”, which is set to hit stores on May 3. The sexy music video was shot last month in Mexico. However, due to policy issues of the sexual kind, I have yet to find the actual snippet on YouTube but did find a news source with a few screen caps of the video. In related music news, JLo’s American Idol performance was scheduled to go on next week but in a sudden change of plans, she will now be going on stage on this week’s results show.

TV is about to get bombarded with nothing but singing competitions as Christina Aguilera, Cee-Lo Green, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton have all signed on to judge NBC’s new show “The Voice”. The new show is set to rival American Idol and the US version of the X Factor. However, Christina has faith that the show will stand out because of the stellar judging panel. The pop singer said “We know what it’s like to get up on that stage. I was even a contestant on Star Search years ago. For me, I know what it’s like to be them. One of the reasons I was hesitant about doing a show like this was because I wanted to make sure I was a part of something very positive and not negative just for television’s sake. I wanted to bring positivity and a really honest perspective.” I can’t wait to see what they come up with.
It’s finally upon us! Check out the full version of the new Swedish House Mafia single called “Save the World Tonight”. Whether it’s high quality or a recording of a live performance, there’s no denying that the track is massive. I think it’s another certified hit for the producing trio. The new single also features vocals from up and coming Swedish singer John Martin. I think he did an amazing job. I love the atmosphere of the song. It kind of makes you feel free and that you’re the only person that matters. And of course, any Swedish House Mafia production is beyond amazing.

Hip hop band Black Eyed Peas have recently announced that they plan to officially retire their 2005 hit “My Humps” and will no longer perform it live in concert. Rapper will.i.am explains “For a while, [we did] My Humps and then it got to the point where we didn’t want to play My Humps no more. You know, ’cause, ‘I met a girl down at the disco,’ I just didn’t want to say that no more, lyrically.” Or maybe the song just gets way too annoying after a while. I know that’s how I feel about it so I can’t blame them for wanting to retire it.
Rihanna’s “S&M” has officially hit the number 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. This achievement marks the R&B/pop singer’s 10th number 1 hit on the chart, and given the fact that her 1st #1 hit on the chart was May 2006’s “SOS”, Rihanna has achieved a record of having “the shortest span between a solo artist’s first and 10th No. 1s in the chart’s 52-year history.” The only artists who have gained 10 Hot 100 number 1’s faster than her are the Beatles and the Supremes. That’s not bad at all. If that’s not enough of an achievement, Rihanna has also become the youngest artist to land 10 number 1’s in the Hot 100 chart. Wow! Congratulations Rihanna!
Emile Hirsch shows off his directing chops in this recently premiered music video set to Eminem’s “Kill You”, which comes off of the rapper’s 2000 record “The Marshall Mathers LP”. The clip marks the second video that Emile has directed and features several furry friends that belong to “Nikita” star Lyndsy Fonseca. Lyndsy wrote on her Twitter “My friends #EmileHirsch, @Chuckchurch made a video starring my animals. enjoy!!!” I wonder if Eminem has seen this clip and what he thought about it. I think it was pretty funny. I like Emile’s sense of humor. It definitely comes out in his directing chops.

Katy Perry hasn’t even started her North American tour yet but she’s already added a handful of new concert dates. The pop singer has added 8 more stops on her California Dreams tour in September. The new dates include San Antonio on September 7, New Orleans on September 8, Louisville on September 10, Grand Rapids on September 11, Columbus on September 13, Indianapolis on September 14, Omaha on September 16 and Tulsa on September 17. All 8 concert dates will be opened by the extremely talented Janelle Monae. Will any of you be catching Katy perform on any of these dates?
After achieving the longest consecutive run at the top spot for a studio album by a solo artist in British chart history for her album “21”, Adele’s reign at the number 1 spot on the UK album chart has finally been taken over by the Foo Fighters’ new album “Wasting Light”. Despite losing the top spot, the British singer is still at #2 with “21” and is also at #3 with her debut album “19”. I’m impressed with her success in the US and UK, and I won’t be surprised if she manages to make her way in front of the Foo Fighters again. The rock band may have a solid album but there’s no denying Adele her throne.
Blink 182 has announced on their website earlier this week that they have re-scheduled their European summer tour for next summer in order to finish the album. Through a statement on their website, the rock back wrote “It is with heavy hearts that we have to announce our planned 2011 European summer tour has been rescheduled. When we booked the tour last year, we were confident that we would have the new album out before the summer. Turns out we were mistaken as the album is taking longer than we thought and won’t be out till later this year. Rather than do another ‘greatest hits tour’ which you all saw last summer. The three of us are working very hard to do what we set out to do when we re-formed, get a new Blink-182 album recorded.” While it’s sad for their European fans, I think they made a smart move and hopefully, their new music would be worth the wait.
Amber Riley recently took to her webcam to cover Adele’s new single “Someone Like You”. The “Glee” actress also took to her Twitter to express her thoughts on the British singer and her song, saying “I don’t care who sings it, NO ONE can sing an Adele song like ADELE, she is perfect but I’m glad you guys liked my version too….” Amber isn’t the only “Glee” star to cover the likes of Adele though. Last night’s episode of the hit TV show saw Gwyneth Paltrow take on “Turning Tables”. Both of them did stellar jobs on their covers but I agree with Amber, no one can sing an Adele song like Adele.Check the Season 2 Episode 17 of Glee episode titled “Night of Neglect.”

Beady Eye rocker Liam Gallagher said he and his brother won’t work together again. The 38-year-old rocker has fallen out with his brother and former Oasis bandmate Noel and has since started a new band, Beady Eye. He said to the Irish Times: "Let’s be clear about one thing here – this band is not a stop gap until me and our kid bump into each other. Him and me are over and done with. This is the real deal." Beady Eye consists of all the Oasis stars apart from Noel and it was formed an hour after Noel quit Oasis. Liam added: "I remember looked around the table that night. I was thinking to myself: ‘He’s a great guitarist, so is he, he’s a great drummer and I’m a geezer so let’s continue on without him.’"
It seems that the pop singer didn’t quite get off to a good start with Katy Perry’s husband, Russell Brand. This is what Rihanna related about the first time she ever met the British comedian: “I first met him when he was interviewing me on TV. I was sick and it was the worst interview I’ve ever done. I was throwing up in a bucket and a doctor gave me a shot in my butt. Nothing was funny to me. I thought it was the most stupid fucking interview I ever did in my fucking life. Why am I talking to this idiot? He made me want to throw up again.” Supposedly afterwards Rihanna realized that she might have been a bit harsh to judge Russell Brand, especially given the unpleasant circumstances. Rihanna admitted that after a second interview her impression of the British comedian did improve significantly. Still, why would she even agree to an interview if she was that sick? Questions, questions…
Only on the charts… in real life they probably have absolutely nothing to do with each other. It seems that Katy Perry has struck a pretty big success with her latest single, “E.T.”, which is actually her fourth single from her latest album to be a #1 song on the Billboard Hot 100. Coming up close behind, or so the speculation goes, is Lady GaGa with her new “Judas” single. Right now it’s only #30, but speculation seems to be that it will be number one in a few days. That means that Katy Perry and Lady GaGa are battling it out on the Billboard Hot 100, both viciously vying for the first place… theoretically.
The voice of the millennium was the artist that had the distinct pleasure of closing the fabulously large Coachella Festival this year. And Kanye West apparently decided not to disappoint his fans so he went for something rather unexpected: he showed up in a signature Celine shirt from the Spring 2011 Womenswear Collection. Indeed it probably isn’t something Kanye West would wear too often, but it seems to have done wonders. The rumor goes that he put on quite the show. Who knows, maybe next time, he’ll try something even more courageous and original. It is terribly dark in the closet, but surely Kanye West will find his way out if he keeps trying.
Jessie J recently had a talk with Interview magazine where the 22-year old British singer/songwriter talked about her struggles and making music that means something. On going through her struggles, Jessie J said she doesn’t mind them at all, saying “I’m glad I’ve had to struggle. It’s made me the artist I am now.” As for making music, she shared “I’ve been surrounded by male egos my whole career and sometimes just wanna go, ‘Oh, f— off.’ I’m going to make sure that each song is more than just ‘I’m in the club, shaking my booty.’” Good on you Jessie J!

It looks like the singer has actually given into all of the complaints and criticisms that her music video dance routines just aren’t what they used to be. So Britney Spears has decided to try and rectify this by doing a new version of her “Till the World Ends” music video that has a lot more dance in it. So she took the old version, cut out all of the post-apocalyptic imagery and instead put in a little more dance and a lot more close-up of her bobbing her head or being all absorbed in the song. It is a reasonably noble effort on Britney Spears’ behalf, but still with no real result. A better approach would’ve been to put in a few more images where the earth is ripping itself to pieces… probably a lot more entertaining.

Kelly Clarkson made her triumphant return to American Idol last night when she performed a duet with Jason Aldean. The pop star and the country singer delivered a fantastic rendition of their single “Don’t You Wanna Stay”, the second single from Jason’s fourth album “My Kinda Party”. The song has garnered huge success in the US and I’m sure it will gain even more steam after that performance. It was top notch. Jason did his thing but Kelly definitely stole the show with her beautiful vocals. It just made me want for her next album to come sooner. I hope the Idols took notes from her last night. Kelly is definitely a pro!

The singer has just released a new music video for his song “The Lazy Song”. The song and the video are about as simple as simple can be: it’s a rather commonplace pop/R&B piece with a video of Bruno Mars and five dudes with monkey masks doing a few dance routines in an empty room. The choreography is not really that complex and it’s mainly meant to be funny and simple… like the song and its message. The fact of the matter is that it works, it’s pretty catchy and of course very fun to watch. This is how music videos should be done: all it takes is a good and simple idea. And Bruno Mars really nailed it with this one.
The rapper and highly successful business man has recently revealed how he managed to become the cool musical idol that he is today. This is what Jay-Z had to say on the matter: “I’m around great women, starting with my mom. Women keep men cool. The hotter the chick the cooler the guy… that sounds like a really bad rap line!” So Jay-Z is not only very subtly complimenting his mother on her good looks, but he’s also saying that if it weren’t for Beyonce, he’d still be stuck rapping away in some obscure studio. One can see the point that Jay-Z is trying to make here.

Simon Cowell believes that the world is in need of something to look forward to, like the royal wedding. The 51-year-old X Factor boss said that watching Prince William and Kate Middleton exchange their vows will be a welcome break from the doom and gloom of recent years. He told Entertainment Tonight, "I think this is exactly the right time. We need something like this at the moment. "It’s been a bit gloomy the last couple of years, so this is going to lift everybody. Everyone’s excited."
As promised Rihanna has released her new and highly anticipated remix of “S&M” which features Britney Spears. Apart from a little more electro in the beginning, the song is basically the same… except of course for Britney Spears doing a duet with Rihanna. It doesn’t really sound half bad, but hearing Britney Spears sing the refrain to Rihanna’s “S&M” is a bit strange at first… but everybody will probably get used to it over time. Not a bad remix really… especially given the theme of the song and the fact that it’s sung by Rihanna and Britney Spears which might send a few minds wandering into some directions.
Rihanna and Britney Spears – S&M (Remix) – New Song
