It has been confirmed that Jennifer Lopez has signed a 1-year deal with American Idol. And according to sources connected with the reality TV talent competition, the Latin pop singer/actress’ deal is for a little more than $12 million. I find it somewhat surprising that the deal is only for one year given the nature of the franchise. Are they unsure of the show’s fate after this season and wanted to play it safe with contracts or are they planning on changing judges for the show every year? The 2010 MTV Video Music Awards held this past Sunday managed to pull in 11.4 million viewers which makes it the best for any MTV telecast since 2002’s 11.9 million. It was also the third most watched telecast in MTV history and up 27 percent from last year. Chelsea Handler, who hosted the show, definitely has a lot to celebrate about. She said “Just got word…Highest rated VMA’s since 2002. Good job, MTV! Good job, kiddo.” Chelsea also thanked her fans on Monday for tuning in, saying “Thanks for watching everyone. I know I had a good night when I wake up with tape on my back & glitter on my face.”

Rolling Stone Ronnie Wood has said he was once so addicted to drugs he smoked pieces of a meringue thinking it was crack cocaine. Back in the 1980s, the legendary hell-raising guitarist was hooked on various illegal drugs as well as alcohol. He told Britain’s News of the World newspaper: “It got to the point where I would be on my hands and knees looking for crumbs that might have fallen out of the crack pipe. “I even banned my children from eating meringues in the house after I ended up smoking sugar, believing it to be cocaine.”

Britney Spears is calling BS on the lawsuit filed against her by a former bodyguard who claims that the singer sexually harassed him and abused her kids. The pop star recently posted a statement on her official website saying “This lawsuit is another unfortunate situation where someone is trying to take advantage of the Spears family and make a name for himself. The Department of Children and Family Services conducted a proper investigation surrounding Mr. Flores’ accusations and have closed the case without any further action. Ms. Spears and her attorneys have every expectation that his matter will be dismissed by the courts.”

Usher is getting ready to head out on the road for a tour. Starting in November, the R&B singer will tour North American and visit 25 cities to bring his music to his fans. The tour kicks off with a concert in Seattle, Washington on November 10 and will wrap up on December 18 in Hartford, Connecticut. It’s good to note that while he was rumored to be going on tour with Usher at one point, Chris Brown will not be joining his fellow music artist. Who needs him anyway? Usher is having an amazing year and this tour could be just as epic.

There’s sadness in the world of cowboys and cowgirls as Brooks & Dunn ended their almost 20-year long career with one last concert in Nashville last week. The gig appropriately benefited the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. Fans packed the Bridgestone Arena for the epic two-hour concert. As the two country singers came to the stage, they treated their fans to a high energy show that will most definitely go down in country history. Kix Brooks told the crowd “This is not a funeral. R Kelly is staying out of trouble and is doing some good for the rest of the world. The R&B singer recently made a trip to Africa and performed in front of President Joe Eduardo dos Santos of Angola during a benefit concert in Luanda for the Special Olympics. He even serenaded the politician to celebrate his 68th birthday. R is even planning on returning to Africa in December to perform in several other countries. He said “Visiting Africa is always exciting and inspiring for me, both musically and personally. Even though I hate flying, I’m always willing to get on an airplane if the destination is Africa.”
Taylor Momsen’s band mate Ben Philips of the Pretty Reckless recently revealed that the precocious Gossip Girl’ actress turned rock singer loves to play with fire – literally. He said “Taylor loves setting things on fire, so this is great. Taylor thinks we’re some rock ‘n’ roll badasses. In the studio, there was this pit where the owner would burn stuff. We’d burn old keyboards, computers, stuff them full of TNT and set them on fire. Taylor loves fire. I shouldn’t say this. One morning, Taylor got into the studio really early – she’d just had her dog neutered and brought in the bits. Which she then burned. We were grossed out.” It sounds to me like she’s got a lot of issues.
Eminem is going to get paid as a federal appeals court has found that the rapper’s former production company FBT Productions LLC is entitled to royalties by Universal Music Group for music downloaded over iTunes or sold as cell phone ringtones. The appeals court ruled that the contracts between the two companies “unambiguously applies to permanent downloads and master-tones” which entitles Eminem and his producers to a 50-50 split for recordings licensed to iTunes and other digital distributors. It’s being said that this ruling could potentially affect how record labels and artists make financial deals in the future. That’s definitely something to watch out for.
Rock ‘n’ roll star Noel Gallagher has blasted today’s “dull” clean-cut music stars. Noel thinks that rockers at the moment are too boring and should be wilder. While at the GQ Men Of The Year Awards, the 43-year-old told British newspaper the Daily Star: “The showbiz scene is really boring these days, everyone’s so dull. “The old days of wild partying seem to be a thing of the past.” But Gallagher is sure that some new rockers will try and bring back the raucous nature of showbiz. He said: “There will definitely be a new wave of coolness, it’s just a matter of time.” Noel added: “It’s about time a new set of proper rock stars came out.” Although Noel himself won’t be showing musicians the wild ways of rock ‘n’ roll. He said: “My days of waking up with someone else’s chandelier in my bed are over, I’ve got kids now, I’m more chilled out.”
