It seems that the singer’s new album “Aphrodite” is received very well by listeners, or at least that’s what the great number of copies sold tell us. Though till last week Eminem with his “Recovery” was number one, Kylie Minogue made it to the top and dethroned him. The album “Aphrodite” was sold in twice the number of copies than the album of the American rapper. Recently Kylie became the proud aunt of her sister’s new born son.
Joe Jonas has scored himself some TV time and possibly a new career as the Jonas Brothers singer landed a guest-starring role on the hit TV series ‘Hot in Cleveland’. According to EW, the 20-year old pop star will play Valerie Bertinelli’s son. Joe’s first, and likely not the last, episode will air in August. If he plays his cards right, he’s got himself a new career once the band thing completely tanks and Nick Jonas no longer wants to work with him because he’s too busy being a big Broadway or West End stud. This way, Joe can also keep himself in line and avoid breaking any more hearts.
Katy Perry recently had an interview with UK’s Star magazine. The pop singer talked a bit about sexuality and religion saying “It does not matter if it’s Madonna or my boyfriend doing it – if you put sexuality and religion in the same bottle and try to shake it up, it’s not cool.” Perhaps it’s this same opinion why Katy recently unleashed a tirade on Lady Gaga and her ‘Alejandro’ video where the princess of pop was seen swallowing a rosary. If you’ve been living under a rock your whole life and just recently came out from under it, Katy’s dad is actually a pastor. Go figure.
Drake’s upcoming Central Park concert which was originally planned for July 16th as part of the Good Morning America concert series has been cancelled. City officials claim that the show’s organizers were unable to provide the amount of security needed by the police. If you recall, the same thing happened for the singer/rapper’s proposed June 10th concert at South Street Seaport after 25,000 fans showed up. Drake is just too popular for his own good. I just feel sorry for all those fans who are missing yet another show. But then again, safety is a huge issue that has to be dealt with properly.
The most appreciated drum & bass band, Pendulum released their newest video clip, “Witchcraft”. The song is included on their last album “Immersion”. The guys released the album on the 24th of May. The first single from the new album is named Watercolor, and it is aired on almost any radio station. The band announced that they want to start touring all over Europe this year’s fall. Pendulum are very well known for their energetic live shows with great visual display.
The video game that will recreate the famous dance movements of Michael Jackson, will be named “Michael Jackson: The Experience”, and it will be released in November this year. This game was conceived before the megastar’s death. “Michael Jackson: The Experience” will benefit of the newest technology, compatible with Nintendo Wii, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. The Xbox version will utilize Kinect software, meaning the gamer will be able to “see himself” on the screen. The goal of this game is to learn how to dance like Michael, said Tony Key from Ubisoft. The gamer will receive points depending how well he dances.
Shakira will perform at the closing ceremony of the World Cup. The ceremony will take place on Sunday (07.11.2010) on Soccer City Stadium, Johannesburg. Just like at the opening ceremony on 11th of June, Shakira will sing the song “Waka Waka (This Time For Afrika)”, the official hymn of the World Cup 2010. Organizers say that it will be a high-tech ceremony, more modern than the one opening the World Cup in June. Jermaine Craig, spokesman of the organizing committee, said that spectators will witness awesome special effects and lights.

This new material is showing Enrique discovering new directions, and being adventurous. Regarding the new album Enrique declared: “We can’t wait to finish this album. Country singer LeAnn Rimes has announced that she will be taking a break from making posts on her Twitter because of the criticism she’s been getting after her affair with actor Eddie Cibrian. She said “Taking a break from twitter for a while. It’s unhealthy for me and my family to have to read negative comments from people who’s opinions have no bearing on my life. Snoop Dogg has been slapped by a lawsuit from jazz musician Michael Henderson for sampling one of his songs. Michael says that the rapper took selections for his ‘Do it All’ album without his permission to use on his track ‘Flashbacks’. He is also suing rappers Murs and 9th Wonder for the same thing. Michael is claiming statutory damages for the alleged copyright infringement as well as any profits made from the songs. He is also requesting that all the defendants to stop manufacturing, distributing and selling the works further. Can’t we all just get along and agree to not steal?
Rihanna is reportedly working on a collaboration with Lil Kim. The rapper recently had an interview with Australia’s Lifelounge about her friendship with the 22-year old Barbadian singer saying “I’m a huge Rihanna fan. And she’s a friend of mine, so if I had to guess, I’m 90% sure that song is probably in the works. I look at it this way: if it happens, it happens. And it should be a surprise. It shouldn’t be something that people are anticipating, or have their own personal opinions on it before it even comes out. So I probably won’t ever mention that again.”
Katy Perry is apparently a big fan of ‘Glee’ and she is asking fans to start a Facebook campaign to get her on the hit FOX TV series. When asked about her feelings for the show, the pop singer said “Please! I would love somebody to start that Facebook group and persuade them. I would absolutely love that.” Even her fiancé Russell Brand thinks that Katy would do great on the show, adding that she is a brilliant actress. With so many other celebrities getting linked to the show like Leona Lewis, Victoria Beckham and Justin Timberlake, I think Katy will be a great addition too.

For a second week, Eminem’s album “Recovery” is still on top. This is really of no surprise, the album selling 313,000 as Nielsen SoundScan reported. The album was sold in 1.1 million copies in the U.S., in two week’s time. The song “Love The Way You Lie” featuring Rihanna, also stays number one for a second week on the Digital Songs chart. The song was downloaded 280,000 times during these two weeks. The first single of this album was “Not Afraid” released on April 29 and landed number one on the Billboard Hot 100.
Nine Inch Nails lead singer Trent Reznor will be scoring David Fincher’s new movie about Facebook, ‘The Social Network’, with frequent collaborator Atticus Ross. The rock star said “I’ve always loved David’s work but quite honestly I wondered what would draw him to tell that story. When I actually read the script and realized what he was up to, I said goodbye to that free time I had planned. The film opens October 1 in the U.S. with the record likely available a couple of weeks ahead of that.” Given how surprisingly dark the movie trailer is, I’m interested in what Trent will come up with.

The Rocket Man, now 63, married his partner David Furnish in a ceremony five years ago and said he finally grew up when he left the drink and drugs behind.

Drake is the latest celebrity to have a plane named after him on Virgin Airlines thanks to Sir Richard Branson. The singer/rapper is also the first hip hop artist to have a commercial plane named after him. Air Drake is in the Virgin America fleet and will fly between Drake’s native Toronto and California destinations. Branson said “We’re honored to name our plane Air Drake. He’s Canadian through and through; he’s one of the most successful Canadians. He bridges the gap between Canada and America very successfully.” I wonder if Drake will get any perks if he flies in his own plane.
Maroon 5 has a new video out for their latest single ‘Misery’. The band’s lead singer, Adam Levine, and keyboardist, Jesse Carmichael, dropped by Sirius XM Studio in NYC last week to talk about their new album ‘Hands All Over’ and their first single. Adam said “We’re getting back to what it was all about from the beginning — and luckily we didn’t stray too far before we realized that.” As for what fans can expect on their new tour which kicks off on July 30, they said “No bells and whistles, no lasers and no pyrotechnics, just a show. A good one, too.”
Sounds like someone had quite the reunion in the Bahamas! Justin Bieber’s ex-girlfriend Caitlin Beadles, who split from the pop sensation when his career took off, went on Twitter about her getaway in the Caribbean with the teen singer, even though the trip was supposed to be a secret. She tweeted “What happens in the Bahamas stays in the Bahamas” about a week after the trip to the Bahamas. Earlier last week, she said “I hate when you have to leave. It’s like half of me is gone. I miss you already!” Can you hear that? That’s the sound of millions of teen hearts breaking all over the world.
Lady Gaga was in Boston last week for the unveiling of her exclusive Polaroid photo to be housed in the Massachusetts Institute of Technology museum. The princess of pop was named as creative director for Polaroid back in January. As for why the singer’s photo is being housed there, the MIT museum has recently acquired thousands of Polaroid inventions and products, including the camera that was used to take the picture of Lady Gaga. That’s so cool! You’ve got a great innovation in photography and a great innovator of music and fashion. Those are definitely worth seeing in a museum.
Bret Michaels is still dealing with side effects after his brain hemorrhage in April and warning stroke. Janna Elisa, VP of Michaels Entertainment, says “He still has pain from the chemical meningitis, short term memory loss and gets fatigued quicker than normal.” However, the rock singer’s doctor says that his recovery his amazing, explaining “Between 15 and 20 percent of patients die as a result of the initial hemorrhage, and only approximately 50 percent of those that survive have a good outcome. For anyone to speculate that this was not a life threatening medical emergency is absolutely incorrect. Bret is truly one of the most determined individuals I have ever met when it comes to an attempt at making a full recovery.”

The dirty pop star apparently likes her men funny, furry and fat. The singer recently said in an interview “My ideal man would be funny and fat with a beard. I love fat men. I like real men. Rage Against the Machine lead singer Zack De La Rocha is planning a series of concerts called the Sound Strike campaign to protest Arizona’s state immigration laws. The rock star explains “In the coming weeks we are going to be organizing a series of concerts that are respectful of the nature of the boycott in its attempts to isolate the Arizona government but not isolate the people, and especially the organizations that are fighting this on the ground. Many of us have begun to plan concerts that include bands that have signed on the Sound Strike, and make tickets available so that people within Arizona can come and see these concerts as they roll out.” Participants include Maroon 5, My Morning Jacket, Ben Harper and Pitbull who have all agreed to boycott the state until the law is replaced.
The Black Eyed Peas are set to team up with blockbuster film director James Cameron to create a tour DVD.
Frontman will.i.am has revealed that the band want to create a 3-D film and chose the Avatar director because of his reputation in the movie industry.
The rapper/music producer told Vibe they wanted to pick a director that matched the band’s ever-growing status.
He said: “We have the biggest director, because we are the biggest group on the planet.
“The Peas are filming it in South America. People will be able to see us in the theatre with the 3-D glasses and everything.”
The film – which is scheduled to hit theatres next year – will be a full-length feature that follows the band as they tour the globe.
He added: “We’ve toured from America and Europe, to the Middle East, South America, Asia and Africa. It’s not like we go, ‘Yo, we are international, you know what I’m saying? London and Paris!’ Nah, that’s just two cities. We want to go across the planet.”
The music industry better brace itself as it is going to be plagued by new music from Heidi Montag. The reality TV star turned wannabe singer broke the news on her Twitter last week telling her so-called fans “heading into the music studio recording my new single! Steve Morales my music producer moves into my house tomorrow to make my summer album!” I guess that moving in is code for kidnapping and forcing him to produce her music. Kidnapping makes sense considering that I doubt anyone would voluntarily produce her music after what happened with her first album. Why can’t Heidi just crawl into a hole and die?
