Radiohead’s lead singer Thom Yorke is predicting the end of the major labels in the music industry. Way to state the obvious. The rock star urges young musicians to resist the temptation of signing a big record deal as he think all the labels will completely fold in a couple of months. I say they have a couple of years left. He feels so adamantly in warning upcoming artists of the dangers of a record deal that he even sat down for an interview for a new high school textbook where Thom said “It will be only a matter of time – months rather than years – before the music business establishment completely folds. (It will be) no great loss to the world.”
Well, their music is going to the World Cup anyway. ESPN has recently struck a deal with Bono and the rest of the boys to use their music for their coverage of the World Cup. More so, a gospel choir from South Africa has also recorded their own versions of some of U2’s songs for ESPN to use. Bono must be so proud of all of this… now he and his band mates can spiritually be at the World Cup competition, even though they might be off celebrating some other success of theirs in some other exotic part of the world.
Jimmy ‘The Rev’ Sullivan, the 28-year old drummer for Avenged Sevenfold was found unresponsive in his Huntington Beach home at the end of December. Police said that the death appeared to be of natural causes but toxicology reports that recently came in say otherwise. It turns out that the rock star passed away from an accidental overdose of prescription drugs and alcohol. The report said that he suffered an “acute polydrug intoxication due to combined effects of Oxycodone, Oxymorphone, Diazepam/Nordiazepam and ethanol.” The band’s manager, Larry Jacobson, talked about Jimmy in a recent interview with Rolling Stone saying “To all of us who loved Jimmy, the only thing relevant about December 28 is that is the night we lost, too soon, a son, brother, friend and one of the most talented artists in the world. Every day, his parents and sisters, and his brothers in Avenged Sevenfold smile at the many memories they have of Jimmy and his fans around the world revel in the musical legacy he left them.”
Kanye West is set to take the stage at the BET Awards on June 27. That would mark the rapper’s first awards show performance since interrupting Taylor Swift at the 2009 MTV VMAs. Kanye is nominated for two BET awards including Video of the Year for ‘Run This Town’ with Jay-Z and Rihanna. On Tuesday, he performed at 3 different high schools in the Chicago area as part of the Kanye West Foundation’s annual ‘Stay in School’ event. Kanye also made an appearance at a Manhattan nightclub for a listening party featuring songs from his upcoming album ‘Good Ass Job’. It’s about time he got back in the spotlight!
The first round of auditions for the X Factor kicked off today in Glasgow. On the judging panel sits regulars Simon Cowell, Cheryl Cole and Louis Walsh. However, they aren’t alone as former Spice Girls singer Geri Halliwell will also be joining them to judge the contestants, filling in for Dannii Minogue. If Geri isn’t enough for you, she isn’t the only big named celebrity to look forward to as rumors are going around that Prince might also act as a judge on the show. I’m not holding my breath for that one though. I doubt that he will creep out of seclusion just to judge those less talented than him.
Joe Walsh can sleep a little better at night after a judge granted the Eagles guitarist a restraining order against a neighbor who allegedly threatened to shoot him. The musician claimed that a man in his 70s, Nassar Adhoot, trespassed onto his property in Los Angeles last month and then attacked his assistant. At the same time, the guy allegedly threatened to shoot and kill Joe. This past Monday, the suspect failed to appear in court to defend himself against the allegations so the judge granted Joe the restraining order and also ordered Nassar to fork over $1500 in attorney’s fees.
Christina Aguilera rocked out on the Today Show this past Tuesday in New York City. The 29-year old powerhouse singer sang a couple of songs from her new album ‘Bionic’ which is already out in stores. On the show, Christina shared how her son influenced her most recent album. The pop star shared to Matt Lauer “I was completely inspired by a lot of electronic music when my son was born. We both were listening to it a lot together. Having a child makes me think about the future and the next generation. And I got really inspired by electronica. He definitely inspires the playful side of me that I didn’t really have prior to having him. He really inspired me.”

Lily Allen has dubbed her father Keith Allen “not a responsible adult” and “useless” for having left the family when she was only 4-years-old, according to reports.
“I feel I know that about him so I still want to have a relationship with him, so I make the effort to go and see him, I don’t expect him to come and see me just because I know what he’s like and there’s only so much you can say ‘Oh, that person’s useless’ because it’s pretty pointless,” the Smile singer is said to explain in an interview to air on Sky Arts.
The singer also lashed out at the Spice Girls, labelling them not “real” and declaring that S Club 7 made “rubbish” music, saying she was “irritated” by the pop culture of the past 20 years.
“I felt if I’m going to be a pop star I want to be a real pop star and I want to say real things,” the Express reports her as saying.
It seems that the band has other things on their agenda rather than selling out concerts or albums. The guys from Linkin Park were recently present at a construction site in California where they helped out to build eco-homes for the needy. Apparently this is all part of Linkin Park’s Music for Relief charity. Even though they’re not out there selling-out, this course of action might just help them to do that. After all, any eco-freak is bound to support Linkin Park in endeavors such as this. But it is commendable nonetheless… you don’t see these guys going out and buying ten million-dollar mansions in California.
Sources connected with Britney Spears are saying that her conservatorship has essentially become a formality because the singer now makes almost all of her personal decisions herself. The pop star’s dad, Jamie Spears, is the official conservator and has the power to make life decisions for his daughter but sources say that he has intentionally pulled back and is allowing Britney to control her life. However, it’s still sketchy as to when the conservatorship will end. Everyone involved says that Britney is like a different person from the one who was put on a 5150 back in January 2008. But while Britney makes her own life decisions, the control of the business is still under Jamie. For the most part, Jamie would like to set Britney free and go back home to Louisiana.
MIA is making all kinds of mischief these days by spouting off conspiracy theories, posting journalist’s phone numbers on Twitter and saying crazy stuff wherever she goes. The rapper recently talked to Nylon magazine about the unusual tactics she employed to gain admittance to the prestigious St. Martin’s college in London. She said “I said, ‘If you don’t (accept me), you’re going to change my life completely, because I’m going to go outside and get on the bus, and I’ll be a crackhead prostitute and go to jail. And three years from now, I’ll come out of jail and make the best film.’” Or she’d be in jail.
Chamillionaire had his Houston mansion repossessed by the bank after it went into foreclosure. Don’t feel bad for the rapper though because he claims that it was a calculated business decision. He bought the 7,583 sq. foot home in 2006 for $2 million but failed to make several payments. The rapper said that he decided to let go of the house because the real estate market has turned. Chamillionaire also noted that he was never at home anyway. He said “I was always on the road touring. I just didn’t feel like it was a good business investment to pay that much mortgage for a house I was never at. I still got all the cars.” Wouldn’t it have been a better decision to sell it instead of messing up your credit?

Taylor Swift! The princess of pop said “I don’t want to hurt her feelings, because she’s lovely. That Taylor Swift song? You Belong with Me? Oh my God! When it comes on the radio, I sing it so loud and I’m so embarrassed! Because I so freely sing it so loud! You can’t help it! The song, it’s not a bad song. It’s a great song! I think it’s just because it’s very whimsical in a way that I’m not necessarily whimsical every day. When it comes on, I just get this… I wanna sing it! Every woman feels that way. This is what their still acting front man, Steven Tyler, had to say on the matter: “We’re gonna rock you into the middle of next week!’’ Interesting… Aerosmith concerts in the middle of the week… some might take a dim view of that, but hey, every lame-ass rock band concerts in the week-end. Lee DeWyze was crowned the new American Idol last week and just like the champions before him, his debut single was rushed released into the music world. But unlike other Idols before him, the singer’s single is tanking. In its first week of sales, Lee has only sold 95,000 copies of his debut single ‘Beautiful Day’. It came in at #10 on the sales charts but its lack of airplay means it will come in much lower on the Billboard Hot 100. If you put things into perspective – Kris Allen peddled 134,000 downloads of ‘No Boundaries’ in its first week and David Cook sold 236,000 of ‘Time of My Life’ and debuted at #1 on the charts. Welcome to the decline of the reality TV talent show! it’s the end of an era.

In the light of the recent rumors that Mariah Carey and her husband might be expecting their first baby together, there have been some questions about their thoughts on adoption and Nick Cannon had this answer to give: “I’ve never really thought about adopting. That’s never really come up. But marriage, you want to have a family, that’s one of the reasons to get married. When the timing is right.” If the rumors that Mariah Carey is pregnant are indeed true, Nick Cannon will sure wish they had adopted then. If she’s any worse when she’s pregnant than she is when she’s… well, herself, there is only one thing to do: run to the hills!

After all, she’s going to be eighteen by then and this time she can do something really neat: leave the country for her party. This is what Miley Cyrus said about her birthday plans: “I hope I can just have a frickin’ break. Because I haven’t had time, even a week to chill. So I’m probably just going to go to the beach or something. I’ll take about 10 of my friends with me and hang out with the people I never really get to see. A lot of my friends, they work, and I’m in the business too so I’ll make sure we carve out some time so we can relax.” Considering it’s a coming-off age party, doubtful that Miley Cyrus will relax during that time… after all, she will then the able to get acquainted with the ultimate party friend: alcohol.
Taylor Swift will host a 13-hour meet and greet with her fans at the CMA Music Festival this year on June 13. The event begins at 8AM at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena and end at 9PM. The country singer will also have an acoustic performance around 2PM that afternoon. Mind you, the event is also free and open to the public. Taylor said “My favorite thing about CMA Music Fest has always been getting to spend time with the fans. So this year I wanted to figure out a way to meet as many of them as possible. Thirteen is my lucky number and the 13th is during Music Fest, so I think spending 13 hours with my fans is going to be amazing!”

The Telephone singer copied the veteran broadcaster’s haircut, braces and tie as she spent the hour talking to the host.
The 24-year-old – real name Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta – said that, after her own mother and grandmother, the most important woman to her was Princess Diana.
“I love Princess Diana so much,” she said. “She was an enormous influence on me when I was younger because my mother worshipped her so much. When she died, I’ll never forget, my mother was crying. It was this very powerful moment in my childhood watching my mother so connected to someone.”
Gaga, who also said that she was in talks to support Michael Jackson on his This Is It tour before he died, admitted that she is suffering from the potentially terminal disease Lupus.
Gaga told King she tested ‘borderline positive’ for the disease and must be vigilant of her health.
“Lupus is in my family, and it is genetic,” she said. “I don’t show any signs, any symptoms of lupus, but I have tested borderline positive for the disease. So as of right now I do not have it but I have to take good care of myself.”
Nearing the big date of Robbie Williams’ big day the singer decided that he might want to share something his father told him a while back when he met his bride to be, Ayda Field. This is what Robbie Williams said on the matter: “My dad met her and as he was leaving he turned to me and said, ‘You’re in trouble there, son’ – as there was no reason to bolt.
