The summer camp that Britney Spears created for under privileged kids back in 1999 is in serious danger of going under unless they find some serious cash ASAP. The camp, a 10-day summer program for 250 ?economically disadvantaged students?, was originally named the Britney Spears Camp for the Performing Arts until the pop singer bowed out in 2004. After that, the cam was renamed Summer Stars Camp and received donations from sponsors like 50 Cent and the Jonas Brothers. However, the camp has now run out of money and can?t find any celebrity sponsors this year. This is the first time they?ve had this type of issue since the camp was founded. The director claims that the camp is in need of $250,000 to stay afloat and have entered a contest run by Pepsi in an effort to score a grant.
Everybody probably still remembers Tim Urban: the American Idol contestant that stayed on the show longer than anyone would have expected. Bret Michaels has apparently suffered an unfortunate setback. The former Poison lead singer was diagnosed with a side effect that leads to seizures ? hyponatremia, which is a lack of sodium in the body. His rep confirms ?Michaels remains under 24-hour observation in the ICU and is in positive spirits. He is responding well to tests and treatments. Even though today was a minor setback, doctors remain hopeful for a full recovery.? Despite all that, doctors are ?hopeful that Bret will gradually improve as the blood surrounding the brain dissolves and is reabsorbed into his system, which can be a very painful recovery and take several weeks to months.?

After 16 years with the label, the boys of Weezer have left Geffen Records and plan to start producing their own music all on their own, also known as being indie. What that means, even the band doesn?t know, but bassist Scott Shriner told Billboard Magazine that they are definitely working on new music and are scheming something big for fans. One of the things that they have in store is a collection of B-sides and rare recordings the guys have had over the years. That sounds like a great way to recycle. Bret Michaels was rushed to the hospital and is in critical condition after suffering from a subarachnoid hemorrhage last week. Subarachnoid hemorrhaging, which is bleeding at the base of one?s brain stem, is often a complication from diabetes, which the former Poison lead singer is known to suffer from. Reports are also stating that according to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, people who don’t receive proper medical treatment after suffering a subarachnoid hemorrhage have a 20% to 30% chance of experiencing a second bleed within the first month ? and the odds of surviving a second bleed are extremely slim. I sincerely hope that Bret recovers completely from this.

Green Day?s ?American Idiot? musical opened this past Tuesday to crappy reviews. One reporter said ?I wish I could tell you I loved ?American Idiot?. It looks good; it sounds good; it features a talented and hardworking cast. But I can’t. It’s fun. But it’s also, amid all the booming rock, a little dull.? Theatre critics are in love with the show?s soundtrack but most find that the musical lacks a good story. Another critic wrote ?Thanks for the music, Green Day. But, jeez, couldn’t you have spared a story? And a couple of characters who aren’t cliched stick-figures? Because that’s what a Broadway musical needs to make it more than just a music video or a concert. Unfortunately American Idiot comes up short on both those counts.?
Akon has revealed that Lady Gaga is travelling with a mini recording studio during the princess of pop?s ?Monster?s Ball? tour and she?s already come up with some new music for her album. The hip hop singer said ?She records while she’s on the road. I’m flying out to Europe to work on some new records with her. GaGa’s just like me. She has a tour bus with a studio in it. Some of the songs I’ve heard are going to be crazy. She’s getting bigger and better. All I’m doing at the end of the day is listening to the tracks GaGa has written and approving them for her album. She has producers that she works with outside of myself and they are coming up with some incredible records. But the beauty of it is she knows exactly what she wants. So it just makes it easier for me.?
It looks like next week is going to be Shania Twain week on American Idol since the singer is going to be returning as a guest judge to watch the remaining six contestants drag all of her songs through the dirt. But Shania Twain will also be mentoring them so maybe she?ll manage to save her songs from total annihilation? if she does her job right. It will be interesting to see what she manages to make of Crystal Bowersox and the others that are left to fight for the cup. It?s so sad that Tim Urban won?t be there anymore? she sure could?ve made a real star out of him.
Christina Aguilera will be going on tour around the world, starting with the US in July to promoter her newest album ?Bionic?, which will come out in June. While I would love to see her hit the stage again I have a bad feeling about this. I think she?s going to have some difficulties filling large venues. Her new song hasn?t exploded on the radio or the iTunes chart yet. And the tour comes very soon after the album?s release that I doubt how much into it people will be. But if she keeps ticket prices reasonable and delivers her hits along with new stuff, then I think the tour could do well.
Is apparently his age? and not the fact that he too, seemingly as all mortals, is getting on in years, but the fact that his voice will change as a result of that. This is what Justin Bieber said to ?The Rolling Stone? magazine about his changing voice: “It cracks, like every teenage boy. I’m dealing with it.” Brave words for such a successful pop artist, but let?s face it, if Justin Bieber?s voice changes, the world will stop turning. It seems that Scott Stapp from Creed is a big fan of the Florida Marlins just like many, many other people. And being the big fan that he his, he decided to make a video tribute to his favorite team and to compose an original song for them. The problem is with the song itself since it?s called ?Marlins Will Soar?. Even though everybody can understand the value of a metaphor it?s a bit off in this context since a marlin is a fish and it can?t really fly. Where was Scott Stapp during those tedious biology classes at? Perhaps watching one of the movies featuring the good Dr. Moreau? maybe that?s where he got the idea of marlins soaring.

It seems that LeAnn Rimes and her new boyfriend Eddie Cibrian were recently invited to the Country Music Awards where he was even supposed to give out an award. But as Eddie Cibrian got on stage the people from the press room started calling him a cheater. It was probably at this point that LeAnn Rimes figured it wouldn?t do well to even show her face there. It seems the two are now outcasts in the country music circles. Poor LeAnn Rimes, never again will she sing of the wonders of the West.
Kerry Katona recently went to a tabloid claiming that her ex and former Westlife singer Brian McFadden doesn?t keep in touch with their children, Brian blew up at her on his Twitter. Former ?Golden Girls? actress Betty White will be co-hosting the night with 6 former female SNL cast members ? Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Molly Shannon, Maya Rudolph, Ana Gasteyer and Rachel Dratch. Betty was recently asked if she knew that Jay-Z was going to be the musical guest. She said ?I really didn?t, in all honesty. Natalie Mejia from the Pussycat Dolls reality show and so-called band Girlicious has pled not guilty to one felony count of drug possession, following her cocaine bust in Glendale, California last month. The singer was arrested on March 10 after cops say she had over a dozen bags of cocaine in her Gucci purse. How does she explain having that in her bag then? Natalie had been a passenger in a car that was pulled over for speeding when cops noticed the alleged stash of drugs. Unless the bag doesn?t actually belong to her or it got switched, I doubt she?ll get out of this one. She is due back in court on April 28.
It seems the rapper who recently stars with Russell Brand in ?Get him to the Greek? was also asked to appear on an episode of ?Inside the Actor?s Studio? and he is amazed by this since he doesn?t consider himself that good an actor. This is what Diddy said on the matter: “They have been calling me for the last three years to do it, and I was kind of nervous and said, ‘I’m not at that level.’ I’m looking at Meryl Streep up there, and Martin Scorsese, Al Pacino and Denzel Washington and Chris Rock. They were saying they wanted to take it from a different perspective of somebody on the rise. I appreciated that. Rap group Public Enemy wants to release an album entirely funded by donations from their fans. It kind of gives a whole new meaning to paying for it that?s for sure. In return for investing in the project, fans will get albums, meet and greets and even a cut of the profits. Public Enemy has set a goal of raising $75,000 through donations. A statement says ?We have learned that the fan-funding model is still not fully developed and, as a result, a $250,000 fund-raising effort, while possible, will take too long to accomplish?As a result of our SellaBand experience and all that we have learned, we now believe that a $75,000 fund raising target will fulfill the needs for a new recording project and is much more appropriate for the strength of the existing SellaBand model and the current economic climate.?
