Dissecting Kris Allen?s Win

Ξ May 22nd, 2009 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Adam Lambert, American Idol, Jason Mraz, John Mayer, Kris Allen |

While some people aren?t too happy about Kris Allen winning American Idol over Adam Lambert, experts say that the fans may have gotten it right. If you compare the singing styles of the final two, Kris is clearly a more marketable singer. It?s easier to make a great record out of R&B with a touch of John Mayer and Jason Mraz than an album of rock and roll with a touch of theater. And did you know that with the addition of Kris Allen in the set of winners of American Idol, three quarters of the winners are from the south? Power to the people!

Adam Lambert?s comeback

Ξ May 20th, 2009 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Adam Lambert, American Idol, Kris Allen |

For the second round of last night, Adam Lambert got to sing Sam Cooke?s ?A change is gonna come?? a song which offered Adam Lambert the opportunity to catch up with his rival?s performance from round one. As any decent man would do, Adam Lambert seizes the opportunity and he does it with style. Among the many praises from the other judges, Simon Cowell declares the following: “You are 100 percent back in the game. Congratulations.” It must have been a very impressive performance for Simon Cowell? either that or he?s using his influence to keep the competition alive and active. It?s probably working very well on the voters.

Simon Cowell’s number one obsession

Simon Cowell says he would “absolutely not” stay on American Idol if the show slipped from its number one spot on US TV.

The 49-year-old makes his shocking admission as he tops The Hollywood Reporter’s Reality Power List.

Cowell, who heads his own company Syco Television, is just one of four high-profile Brits on the 50-person list that includes Simon Fuller, Gordon Ramsay and Nigel Lythgoe.

The TV judge says: “Being number one is verging on an obsession with me.

“I don’t accept the argument of fragmentation or declining numbers. The Super Bowl goes up every year.”

Despite this admission, Cowell still toys with the idea of leaving American Idol when his contract runs out.

“The idea that for the next five years I’d be doing exactly what I’ve been doing for the past five years … the thought is just too depressing,” he says.

“You have to evolve, you have to change.”

Cowell reportedly earns $36 million a year to do American Idol.

Kanye West pleads not guilty to assault charges:

Ξ May 19th, 2009 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Kanye West |

The rapper recently pleaded not guilty to the charges of assault brought to him by a photographer whom he supposedly attacked at the Los Angeles airport last September. It?s amazing that this case actually lingered in the law system for this long. More so, Kanye West didn?t do the pleading in person, he sent his lawyer to take care of that. Now it will probably be just another few months until this case eventually reaches the court, a few more months for the trials themselves and finally, Kanye West is probably going to be given a friendly warming and a ticket? or something of the sort. So this is how things work in the land were anybody can sue anybody else for mostly anything? quite the lovely system they have there.

The front man from Maroon 5 who was recently spotted with Cameron Diaz has also had the privilege of meeting the actress? mother. A source told the story of Adam Levine?s latest encounter: “Cameron arrived with her mom first and then Adam joined them at the table. It was total deja vu, except Cameron and Adam were even more comfortable with each other on Sunday, despite having the pressure of Adam meeting Cameron’s mom. Her mom made things easy though – she laughed and joked around with them and it was clear that everyone had a blast. Cameron and Adam were super cute with each other and there was definitely a strong attraction.” She must like the music? or she must like Adam Levine. Either way, things seem to have went down too good to be true? surely there is more to this than meets the eye.

Britney Spears? staggering expenses

The singer?s extravagant lifestyle has apparently finally found its reflection in her extraordinary bills. It seems that Britney Spears has spent no less than ten million dollars since last February. It seems that Britney Spears? dad isn?t really the best administrator of all of her belongings. However, a representative of his, ensures us this is not the case: “Since the initiation of the conservatorship, as a result of the concerted efforts of Mr. Spears as well as the professionals involved, all aspects of Ms. Spears’ life have been stabilized and continue to improve.” Yep, that?s the definitely the case! Eminem planning a free concert

The rapper is planning to hold a free concert in Detroit when he will release his new album ?Relapse?. The relatively weird part is that there will be tickets and those tickets will be given away. The number of tickets got up 1500, the seat capacity of the MotorCity Casino where the concert will be held. Quite the bold move for Eminem, but after sitting so much time in the shadows, it?s a breath of fresh air. Still, you have to wonder if this idea has anything to do with his latest, serial-killer related source of inspiration? or the new hippie-oriented transformation.

Jeff Ament?s bad money-swapping experience

The bassist from Pearl Jam, Jeff Ament, had a bit of a bad experience in changing the ownership of currency. He and a certain Mark Anthony Smith were attacked and robbed outside a studio in Atlanta where Pearl Jam is supposedly recording a new album. Apparently there were three assailants that stole 7000 dollars? worth in money and equipment. The two were attacked when arriving in a jeep at the studio? Jeff Ament apparently tried to run, but was intercepted with great hostility. What kind of a bassist is he anyway? He should?ve been hardcore, he should?ve used his instrument as a hand to hand weapon? after all, a bass guitar does pack quite a wallop.

Ticket reselling giants TicketsNow, owned by Ticketmaster, sold a number of ?premium seats? to Springsteen fans but oversold the concert in the process. This isn?t the first time that the Boss has run into trouble with the ticket companies. When tickets went on sale for his tour in February, buyers were automatically redirected to the TicketsNow website if the fan?s seating selection was sold out on Ticketmaster and paid up to 3 times the original price. The premium ticket holders whose seats were oversold in DC have been offered both refunds and tickets for the show in the cheap seats.

However, if her performance is anything like the one that she gave for a jazz fest this past weekend, I know that a lot of people are hoping that she just drop off the face of the earth. Judges? War on American Idol Gets Physical

Usually, we all see the American Idol contestants trying to one up the other with their performances. But last night, it was a war of the judges? egos as the final 3 performed songs that the judges picked. When Kris Allen performed Randy Jackson and Kara DioGuardi?s choice of One Republic?s ?Apologize?, Simon Cowell called Kara on a cop out by picking his song and then ripping into Kris for not performing it a specific way. At one point, Kara even went behind Simon and covered his mouth with her hands. She wasn?t the only judge to get physical though. While it was not shown, Danny Gokey was pointing towards Simon and Paula Abdul as Ryan Seacrest was reciting the numbers that Paula punched Simon. Adam Lambert even pertained to having Paula hit Simon again.

The American Idol contestant blew away with his performance yet again. For last evening he went with ?Cryin?? by Aerosmith and his vocal coverage was supposedly excellent? but the band didn?t quite perform up to the singer. Still, the reactions were no less than what was expected. Randy Jackson himself said this about Adam Lambert?s performance: “You should be a rock star! Nick Cannon?s Eminem challenge:

Ξ May 12th, 2009 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Eminem, Hip-Hop, Mariah Carey, Nick Cannon |

The former rapper has recently written on his blog about how Eminem openly attacked his relationship with wife Mariah Carey. Nick Cannon wrote: “Not only has his music not evolved, but also homeboy is still obsessed with my wife. The same female that wouldn’t let him get to second base from 8 years ago. This so-called man has just disrespected and slenderized one of the world’s most significantly influential artists, one of the most notable BLACK females of our time, the incredibly cherished, globally loved and world-embraced woman of color, Mariah Carey.? Nick Cannon also prompted Eminem for the two of them to deal with the problem: “Man to man, let’s meet up and deal with this like adults. This is my invitation to you, whenever and wherever you like sir.” Indeed, very mature of Nick Cannon to want to kick Eminem?s ass for a song. And very mature of Eminem to be so direct with his lyrics and not try a more subtle approach? society has indeed evolved from its earlier cave days.

The singer has apparently written a song called ?Silly Boy? which is most likely aimed at her former boyfriend Chris Brown. Some Rihanna?s lyrics for the song are as follows: “I said I’m not coming back / You fooled me once but you can’t have that ego turning. Just too bad for you, that when you had me / Didn’t know what to do, she’s over you. Cause you had a good girl, good girl / Girl that’s a keeper / You had a good girl, good girl but didn’t know how to treat her. So silly boy get out my face / Why do you like the way regrets taste?” Well, that?s one way to get over the whole assault thing. But still you have to wonder how much Rihanna can actually get to Chris Brown with a song like that? especially since the man is still facing jail time.
