The singer recently tried to “officially apologize”, if we can call it that, to Lily Allen for some past remarks. Katy Perry said: “I really didn’t mean to upset her. What I actually said was that I was a skinnier version of Lily Allen and a fatter version of Amy Winehouse. But Lily Allen is skinny now. She is hot – she looks really good.” Now all that’s left if for Katy Perry to be forgiven… or drawn into even more “sweet” apologies and praises. Whatever the case, Lily Allen will probably not leave the whole bit forgotten and Katy Perry is in for a bit of a rollercoaster ride.
Stuart Cable, former Stereophonics drummer, who supported Rolling Stones on a tour, told an interesting story in his book “Demons and cocktails” about how Keith Richards almost canceled a contest because of a shepherd’s pie: “I whacked several hefty spoonfuls onto my plate. Mick Jagger came in and stopped in his tracks and the pleasantness suddenly left his face, ‘Who’s eating that?’ He said, ‘Do you know the rules? You never, ever, take the shepherd’s pie unless Keith’s broken the crust first.’ He twirled on his heels and said jokingly, ‘Enjoy the show, boys. If there will be a show. I’m not sure if he’ll go on after this.’ At least I thought it was a joke.” So it was the potato pie that kept Keith Richards going all of these many years. Who knows what evil forces the crust is imbued with… well, Keith Richards at least probably does since he seems to be able to channel their energy. And as proof, the story continued with the “recruiting” of the pie… dark magic at work here.
The British rock band has supposedly come to the decision of taking a wee bit of a break to figure out what direction they want to take their music. Coldplay’s lead guitarist, Johnny Buckland, said: “We ended up doing much more touring than we originally planned so there’s no time to do proper justice to a new project. And anyway people may need a bit of a break from us. We’re taking a little break and let’s see where we get after that. We’ve got a lot of ideas but we want to find a new way to go and that may take some time.” It seems like Coldplay might be a little bit bored with themselves. Or they figured that since U2 might be blowing into the ethereal winds soon, they can afford a bit of a vacation. After all, it’s not like the fans are going anywhere.
The famous British festival was one step away from being canceled. Michael Eavis, its founder, had this to say about the dire situation the music event had reached: “Last year I thought that maybe we’d got to the end and we’d have to bite the bullet and fold it all up. A lot of the bands were saying Glastonbury had become too big, too muddy and too horrible. At one time the bands used to come on board.” However, it seems that the festival was saved by none other than Bruce Springsteen who is confirmed for the 2009 edition, as Michael Eavis relates: “I was prepared to walk away. But to come back from the dead of last year to sell out this year is amazing. Getting Springsteen as a headliner is so exciting. I saw him play two-and-a-half hours in Cardiff and that’s what turned me on to the idea of having him.” Bruce Springsteen? That’s what it takes to get a big, muddy and horrible festival out of the grave? Well, whatever gets Michael Eavis’ boat rowing… as he himself admits. Apparently it does so for a lot of other people since the festival already sold-out.
American Idol runner up Blake Lewis has learned a good lesson: if you can’t make money singing your own songs, you can still make some cash by playing someone else’s. After opening for techno king Darude, the 27-year old beat boxer spun at a spring break event in Clearwater, Florida recently. Blake may not be singing his own songs but at least his tickets were worth something unlike tickets to see Taylor Hicks. And being a DJ still beats having to sing at a balloon festival, ground breaking or some other fallen idol gig. At least he has a job.
Record producer Timbaland has gone ahead and filed a lawsuit against his own record label wherein he has accused music bosses at his record label of attempting to tarnish his image.
The hit releasing songster has said in the lawsuit that executives at the Blackground music record company have over a period of time become jealous of his enormous success both as performer and producer. And to stop him make further stride up in the world of music they are calling other record labels asking them not to hire him.
Man what it is with community of rap singers (mind on offense to anyone here) a little success may be a few hits and they think they have conquered every domain there exists, someone go tell him and the likes of him that it takes years of hard work to establish oneself.
People like him are newbie today and history tomorrow and just in a year’s time people and fans just cannot recall your name. Timbaland go wash your face with fresh water it seems there is a lot of sh.t already settling on your ass.
An American Idol Meter made up by Ken Barnes has seen contestant Anoop Desai claiming first place, making him a very preferential choice for staying on the competition and perhaps even winning. Michael Sarver however is on the last place and it remains to be seen tomorrow exactly how accurate this idol meter really is. Anoop Desai apparently got the best of the judges and the crowd with his rendition of “You Were Always on my Mind”. I can just picture the judges going “Well, YOU were always on MY mind when it came to choosing someone to go home!” but an irony of that sorts is probably reserved for Michael Sarver… or so the Idol Meter tells us.
Bad Flirt checked in before their show in NYC last week for a quick songwriting lesson. Watch Evan talk about their new instruments from Phil Collins and Laura rock out on the hand flute.
The Montreal-based band also share another in-depth history lesson, this time about Pittsburgh, including how the city was settled by pirates and was the birthplace of the Rolling Stones.

Check out the new song by Kate Voegele, “Manhattan From The Sky,” now available at iTunes. The track was featured on last night’s episode of One Tree Hill and is one of the several shiny new gems featured on her upcoming release, A Fine Mess, due out in May. Voegele, who plays the spunky Mia on the popular teen drama, calls the placement of “Manhattan From The Sky” “the most amazing set-up ever.” “The coolest thing is how they worked the song into the show so that it enhanced the scene, and how the scene enhanced the song.”
She says the idea for the piano-driven pop number came to her while sitting in a plane, 30,000 feet above New York City. “I was just thinking about how Manhattan looks like a little piece of Lego,” Voegele recalls, “but once you’re inside, it’s totally crazy and messy and there’s a wonderful chaos going on all around the city.”
In case you missed the episode last night, check out a montage piece of the show featuring footage of her character Mia’s budding romance with Chase set to the music of “Manhattan From The Sky.” Voegele even took to her video blog yesterday straight from Wilmington, NC to talk about how excited she was about the song’s debut on the show. Katharine McPhee began filming the movie ‘You May Not Kiss the Bride’ in Oahu, Hawaii last week. She spent the day on set filming a scene where co-star Dave Annable loses his board shorts while Kat snags them to tease him. The 24-year old pop singer and American Idol runner up makes the jump to the big screen again after she played Harmony in the comedy ‘The House Bunny’. ‘You May Not Kiss the Bride’ is a romantic comedy about the arranged marriage of a mobster’s daughter and a photographer. The movie is scheduled to come out some time in October 2010.
Billy Corgan who in 1988 formed the band Smashing Pumpkins in Chicago, Illinois is once again the only original surviving member of the band with drummer Jimmy Chamberlin announcing that he has quit the band for a second time.
The original Smashing Pumpkins band consisted of Billy Corgan, Jimmy Chamberlin, James Iha and D’arcy Wretzky but in 2000 when the band was reunited James & D’arcy were not part of it. The group’s management as released a statement saying, “Corgan will continue to write and record as Smashing Pumpkins with plans to head into the studio this spring.”
Billy must one frustrated chap right now; the group he started some 20 years ago cannot seem to stay together. This is something of a common occurrence with artist looking for fresh collaborations and something that gives them enough room to experiment and try newer things.
I think this is one of the bands that has consistently delivered some real good hits but is not recognized as much as it should be. Therefore members would look at other avenues.
The rapper considers his fellow singer to be a bit over the age limit for touring. 50 Cent explained his idea: Jay is in a different space in his career. He may be tired of running around and negotiating each individual deal. The deal would be actually putting that in someone else’s hands. I’m comfortable doing it the way I’ve been doing it. The difference between him and me is obvious. He’s married to Beyonce, he’s getting ready to be 40 years old. He’s in a different place, he might not want to run around, and even touring may soon be out of the question. He might want to be in the office and run one of the companies.” This must be the way a rapper like 50 Cent tries to tell his colleague that it’s time to stop clogging up the scene and give others a chance. Either that, or 40 years might be the life expectancy for success with rappers.
The Oasis singer will be launching his own fashion range: owned, designed and whatnot… 100% Liam Gallagher. He had this to say about his new label which will be called “Pretty Green”: “The reason I’m doing it is I like clothes. We’re going to do clothes I like. If people like it, cool, if they don’t, they don’t! If you’re going to do it, you’ve got to get involved and I’m looking forward to it, and I think it’s going to be good.” This all sounds cool… even though it doesn’t seem to me like Liam Gallagher is going to go with the “live and let live” policy… he’s a member of Oasis after all. Still, the name has potential… I really hope Liam Gallagher’s new label will use leather as well so that they can have an all out epic brawl with PETA.
I never expected that tickets for all of Michael Jackson’s 50 scheduled shows at London’s O2 Arena would get sold out in a matter of hours. Now, it’s being reported that his shows might come to the US because of the sales success over in the UK. According to reports, once Jacko’s European tour ends next January, he will do a tour in the US and is likely to do an extended stay in cities like New York and Los Angeles. Sources are even saying that concert promoters AEG are discussing a world tour now. While the tickets sold out pretty quick, I still say that it would mean nothing if he doesn’t show up for his shows. They can discuss a tour once they’re sure that Jacko can deliver a good performance.
It’s been revealed that Britney Spears will be performing with Madonna when she goes back to New York City on Monday. The recovered pop star’s stylist, David Alexander, spilled to In Touch magazine saying “She’ll be singing with Madonna in New York. It will be ‘Get Together’ and ‘Trouble.’ So, together the song is called ‘Lose Control.’” David also added that Madonna might also pop in for one of Britney’s Los Angeles shows on either April 16th or 17th. He said that it was supposed to be a surprise. Well I guess the cat’s out of the bag now huh?
You might want to sit down for this because I have some ridiculous news. 50 Cent is due to join Fall Out Boy on their ‘Believers Never Die Part Deux’ tour. Since when did they become buddies? I actually fell out of my seat laughing when I found out about this one. Regardless, the rapper has been announced to be performing at the April 14th date of Fall Out Boy’s tour in Dallas, Texas. 50 has also signed on to open for the band for four other shows, bringing the total number of shows to five. I still can’t get over how strange this pairing is.
In preparation for her May release of A Fine Mess, Kate Voegele tried on some new looks for a photo shoot in Downtown, Los Angeles. Check out the behind the scenes look here to find out more about the new album including where the album title came from. Listen up for a new song called “Manhattan From The Sky.”

Pussycat Dolls have just premiered the video for their version of A R Rahman’s Oscar winning “Jai Ho!” “It was such a great honor to be able to re-write my own version of the lyrics,” said PCD’s Nicole Scherzinger who worked with producer Ron Fair on the new interpretation of the track. The Dolls shot the video for “Jai Ho (You Are My Destiny)” at an abandoned train station museum in snowy Vienna with director Thomas Kloss (Britney Spears, Miley Cyrus).
Check out Demi Lovato’s just released video for “Don’t Forget. “ The video for the heartfelt ballad was shot at Griffith Park in Los Angeles, CA and features Demi rocking out in the rain. “Don’t Forget” is the title track off of Demi’s debut album and will appear on her new Deluxe Edition due out on March 31st along with two brand new songs, behind the scenes content and making of the video footage. Their Incredible EP is available now.
The former American Idol winner returned on last night’s show to give a stunning performance and remind everyone why American Idol really does create idols. Of course, this was a neat little incentive for her chart accomplishments to be made known to all: her second album “All I ever wanted” made #1 on the Billboard 200. We are also reminded that Kelly Clarkson was very successful in the charts in the past: “My December” was #2, and Breakaway, #3. Looks like American Idol manages its winners well and Kelly Clarkson is a perfect example of skillful publicity. What maddening heights will be reached by this season’s winner? It remains to be seen.
E! Online was first to report that Chris Brown and Rihanna were in a Santa Monica studio earlier this month recording a duet with producer Polow Da Don in efforts to salvage Chris’ career. Other members of the media contacted the producer’s publicist and were told that, not only was the E! story true but also gave details on the behavior of Chris and Rihanna while recording. However, the publicist lied! The publicist is now backtracking saying that she was referring to a song that Rihanna recorded in the past and not a new duet with Chris. Right. They just made Rihanna look stupid with that big lie.
The other American Idol contestant who chose a Carrie Underwood song last night was Danny Gokey. His choice was “Jesus, take the wheel” and he performed it in a very criticized white coat. Paula Abdul described Danny Gokey’s performance with the following words: “I think you were brilliant tonight … I think Carrie Underwood would not only approve, she’d go out and buy that record.” Simon Cowell again gave his approval, while also criticizing Danny Gokey’s choice of clothes: It’s like you’re going on a polar expedition.” He was probably just a bit jealous of the coat and wanted one for himself. And besides, Randy Jackson advised that Simon Cowell’s fashion advice should never be taken seriously. Still, Danny Gokey’s performance was overshadowed by Matt Giraud’s… at least vocal-wise. But we’ll probably be seeing him too in the next phases.
The band recently related a funny, albeit absurd, incident that occurred when they were on their way to a performance in Glastonbury in 2005. The band’s drummer, Ronnie Vanucci, relates: “The most ridiculous incident we’ve had was probably when we played Glastonbury in 2005 – which, up to that point, was the biggest show of our careers. On the way to the site, we stopped off to get some food at a service station. About 45 minutes after getting back on the road, we realized that we’d left Dave behind. His wallet and his phone were still in his bunk, so he had nothing.” And that wasn’t the end of it, Ronnie Vanucci apparently got afflicted with some sort of food poisoning. The Killers eventually made the show possible, but Ronnie Vanucci kept throwing up between songs. That must have been the curse Dave Keuning spattered when he realized he had been left behind and it most likely materialized and haunted only Ronnie Vanucci.
Razorlight’s label apparently offered their now former drummer Andy Burrows a solo deal and front man Johnny Borrell is furious that his former band mate’s new project might take their places in the charts. A source said this about the ongoing conflict between Johnny Borrell and Andy Burrows: “Johnny’s arrogance could come back to haunt him because there are plenty of people at the record label who want to move over from Razorlight’s account to make sure Andy gets the recognition he deserves.” Well, it would seem that Andy Burrows’ reasons for leaving the band were accurate. Still, why is Johnny Borrell so worried about their place in the charts? Or is that a function of record deals as well? Maybe he’ll cool down from now on.
