Mariah Carey Continues to Disappoint

She may have conquered the iTunes singles chart but I guess that’s the only positive thing that we can expect from Mariah Carey. The curvaceous singer’s new single ‘Touch My Body’ is not on the number 15 spot on the Billboard singles chart this week. The song has been on the chart for six weeks but has failed to even just break into the top 10 having only peaked at a high of the number 14 spot last week. But with her single being number 1 on iTunes, here’s to hoping that the digital downloads will help her even just for a little bit.

'HARD CANDY' DELICIOUS NEW MADONNA ALBUM Madonna’s 11th studio album for Warner Bros. Records “HARD CANDY” is scheduled to have a global release on April 28th and a US release on April 29th, it was confirmed by her label. “HARD CANDY” (the follow up to Madonna’s “CONFESSIONS ON A DANCE FLOOR” which debuted at No. 1 in 30 countries and sold over 8 million copies), has been described as a brilliant up-tempo collection of 12 songs in which Madonna remains ensconced in club mode but this time adds an urban hip hop beat in collaboration with musical partners Timbaland, Justin Timberlake, Pharrell Williams of the Neptunes and Nate “Danja” Hills. The debut single, the pulsating “4 Minutes” will be released at the end of March. “The title is a juxtaposition of tough and sweetness…kind of like I’m gonna kick your ass but it’s going to make you feel good. And of course, I love candy” laughed the material girl. Madonna, a multi-Grammy-award-winning singer, songwriter, producer, cultural icon, world renowned stage performer, video visionary, children’s book author, director and documentary film maker has sold 200 million albums in the course of her unprecedented two decade plus career and is slated to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on March 10th.

Justin Timberlake is a Host

Justin Timberlake is a Host

It’s not the Oscar’s but Justin Timberlake is still hosting some type of award show. It has just been confirmed recently that JT will be hosting the annual ESPY Awards show this summer. The ceremony will take place in Los Angeles at the Nokia Theatre on July 20th. The ESPYs celebrate the best and funniest moments in sports throughout the year. Of the job, Justin said “I’ll do my best to deliver a great show, as I do not want to be roughed up backstage by these athletes who are bigger, faster and stronger than me.” I’m betting Justin was just named the host to get more of a female audience to watch.
But, hey, whatever works!

3 DOORS DOWN CLOCK OUT OF THE BOX RADIO HIT
WITH SMASH SINGLE ‘IT’S NOT MY TIME’

First Single From New Self-Titled Album Rock Radio’s #1 Most Added
Fastest Moving Active Rock Record in last Five Years

New Self-Titled Studio Album In-Stores May 27

(New York, NY, March 24, 2008) Universal Republic rock icons 3 Doors Down are putting up massive radio numbers with their first single, “Its Not My Time,” from their soon-to-be released self-titled album, due in-stores on May 27. Their much anticipated fourth studio album has spawned rock’s biggest radio hit of the year so far, with the debut single becoming the fastest moving song at Active Rock radio in the past five years. The #1 most added song at Alternative radio the past 3 weeks in a row, “It’s Not My Time” was also the biggest Gainer at the coveted rock radio format, leaping from #20 to #16 as it closes in on the prestigious 50,000 mark in digital sales in less than a month of release.
The new CD has already got internet fans buzzing, with talk of other choice tracks such as the adrenalin-fueled “Train,” and the rousing “It’s The Only One You’ve Got”, pointing to more milestones from the Mississippi fivesome, from a new album steeped in rock anthems and power-driven radio hits. The follow-up to their #1 debut album, 2005’s Seventeen Days, lead singer Brad Arnold cites this effort as perhaps the most communal band effort. “3 Doors Down has always been about every band member giving everything we’ve got,” says the singer/songwriter. “On this album we really wanted to make every song count. We owe it to our fans who have been there to support us from day one.”

Smashing Pumpkins to sue Virgin

Smashing Pumpkins to sue Virgin

Smashing Pumpkins are taking their former label, Virgin Records, to court over their use of the Pumpkins brand. The label, with whom the band split in 2000, allegedly, used the band’s name for promotional activities linked to Pepsi without their permission.

Virgin were allowed rights to sell digital downloads of the Chicago alt-indie rockers, but should not have compromised the band’s artistic integrity by using their name for promotional activities.

Oh dear – they are in trouble…

Jonas Brothers Go Patriotic

The Jonas Brothers show their patriotic side when they sand the National Anthem on the South Lawn at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington DC on Monday morning for the annual White House Easter Egg Roll. 20-year old Kevin, 18-year old Joe and 15-year old Nick belted out their best rendition of the song as thousands, including the Cat in the Hat, Tweety Bird, Charlie Brown, Mickey Mouse, Snoopy, Clifford the Big Red Dog and the official White House Easter bunnies, watched them perform. It may seem like I’m kidding but really, those are the so-called people in attendance. It is a kids’ event after all.

Pussycat Dolls for Perez

The Pussycat Dolls recently got back front woman Nicole Scherzinger but then lost the redhead… Carmit something. Who would have thought that the first time that the new lineup would perform would be at the 30th birthday bash of celebrity blogger Perez Hilton? And when you have such a gossip around, you can tend to get some details out. Nicole says that her album has been put on hold indefinitely but that the new PCD record will come out before her solo album does. Considering that Nicole has been featured in not-so-flattering articles on PH, I’m surprised that she actually agreed to perform. What do you know? She’s not a complete diva after all.

Robyn Hits America

The very talented Robyn is finally releasing her self-released new album in the US and Canada after having a very successful run in the UK. The Swedish dynamo is also coming on her first ever fulltour of North America in support of the album’s release. So far, she only has ten dates listed on her MySpace but this is Robyn we’re talking about. There’s a chance she might add more dates. Her tour will kick off on April 29 at Paradise in Boston. She also makes stops in Philadelphia, New York, Montreal, Toronto, Chicago, Portland, Seattle, San Francisco. Her tour will end (hopefully not yet) on May 17 at Wiltern Theatre in Los Angeles.

Madonna Jumps High

If music pre-sales was a high jump competition, Madonna would win without any contest. Just a few days ago, the Queen of Pop’s upcoming album ‘Hard Candy’ was at the number 18 spot on the Amazon best sellers list for CDs and it’s not even out until the end of April. Just yesterday, the album is already at number 2. It’s not quite the top, but she’s getting there. Mariah Carey managed to move up on the list as well. She’s at number 40 – a far distance from Madonna but at least she’s already on the list. Her record will be out a full 2 weeks before Madonna’s and she wasn’t even on the top 100 of the list a couple of days ago.
